Oldcat
Just to clarify the situation in 2004 - The Bengals were not really in the playoff hunt. I suppose that if we had won that game and all the others we would have been 10-6. But that was a year that a lot of AFC teams had good record. In the 3 games remaining, Kitna went 2-1 to get to .500. Buffalo was on a big hot streak. They might have still beaten us.At the time the disappointment was in the loss of the development time rather than the playoffs. 2003 was the year we had a playoff shot late in the year. sonsofkraftybob
Great posts. How do you guys think you'll protect Palmer? Last week your o-line looked like a seive. Throw in a couple Doublecheeseburger picks, a muffed punt and I think the score is reversed. But nevertheless, the pats are on the decline and lacking wideouts and whatever else the talking heads say are facts...I for one will enjoy this game. Should be entertaining. Not real worried about the line blocking, honestly. Pats are third straight 3-4 team Cincy has played, and, after Pittsburgh's exotic looks and rushes, Ghuicac should be far more ready to handle whatever it is NE throws at it. I think Cincy will score a bunch against the Pats.Better question is if Cincy's run D will recall what it did well against KC and Cleveland, or revert to last year's form like it did last week in Pittsburgh. If so, and NE controls the ball with the ground game, then Cincy would have a tough time winning. Cincy's D desperately misses Dexter Jackson in run support, and we will be holding our collective breaths until he gets back.Welcome.That showing last week was called a "Dick LeBeau Special" courtesy of playing each other twice a year combined with Brahm going down in the middle the week before. Bengals gave up 21 sacks last year and things will get settled down this week.Regardless, our D forces people to make mistakes, once you make them, we will capitalize. We had to deal with the same conditions, and we made FEWER mistakes. For all their vaunted D, we scored FOUR TOUCHDOWNS (3 in the red zone) and they scored 2 TDs and 2 FG. Do you think that the NE defense is BETTER than the Steelers D? In Cincinnati?D up baby, and bring it on! Welcome to our board! I think that Bill will concentrate on getting to Palmer as opposed to covering all your receivers. Usually when you play to "stop the run".....it's a good thing to force more passes. With Palmer, TJ, Chad and Chris....the opposite maybe true in this case.If the last 5 years have taught me anything, it's never underestimate Belichicks ability to scheme for one, just one 60 min. game. If we play the Bengals 10X....Cincy wins 8. But for one game, there is no coach I would rather have setting up the gameplan than Bill Belichick. Thanks for the welcome! membengal
One stat in the Pats' favor that is a genuine eyebrow raiser...they have gone a span of 52 games now without losing back to back games. Chew on that for a moment. Make no mistake, Bengals will have to be at their best to get this one.

I'm pretty sure that every team we've played so far has focused on getting to CP as its top priority. The squeels did and did about as good a job as possible I would think -- against somewhat of a patchwork line. I respect Seymour, but I doubt NE has the personnel to put any more pressure on Palmer than last week. I agree with you that Belicheck has worked a few miracles in really, really big games. I doubt this rates on that scale. If you think he can do it every week of the season, we only have to look at last Sunday to see that isn't the case. I really think this game hinges more on our offensive line playing well and the passing game finally getting on track. The 4 td's were nice last week, but we haven't seen the no-huddle run as well as it was going the second half of last season yet. I'm hoping it's rounding into shape now. If not, and if CP continues to throw questionable and tentative passes, you should be in the game. If we're clicking on offense like we can -- no offense, but I think we plow anybody's defense. membengal
I hope so. The NFL record, I believe, is 60 games without losing back-to-back. Really, that's a stunning achievement...

What they have done up there year in year out is very impressive. But we are talking about the Bengals here. Rudi did not have a very good game against the Steelers. I honestly hope the Pats try to stop our passing game. Rudi is due....

membengal
The bigger issue for me with that stat is it shows how well Belichick gets his team ready to play, and how good they are at putting bad performances behind them.Bengals will have to bring their "A" game to win this one. chef
I Tired of hearing "experts" refer to Palmer as the 3rd best (?) QB in the league. He out-performed Brady last year and out-scored Manning. Yes, Manning won the passer rating but what is that really worth. Give me the Passing TD title EVERY TIME!i wud put Palmer at the second behind Brady..Palmer has never proved that he can play well in the playoffs (not saying it was his fault last year)Manning has shown that he can't play in post-season when it counts.Brady on the otherhand gets better in post-season and is 10-1and also if u gave Brady Harrison and Wayne or Houmanzada and CJ, insead of Gabriel and Jackson (or like last weekend, Caldweld and Brown) how do u think he wud do then?also Dillon will play on the weekend
Kazkal
He played great he had 100% comp and also if u gave Brady Harrison and Wayne or Houmanzada and CJ, insead of Gabriel and Jackson (or like last weekend, Caldweld and Brown) how do u think he wud do then?I dunno howd he do last week sense broncos seem to always have his number, but I agree the patriots would be differ team (so much for brady made his wr good) which isen't a knock just fact good QB's need weapons still....vs bad qbs who even with weapons still suck ala kyle boller and akili smith.Injury report as of oday:http://www.patriots.com/news/index.cfm?ac=...422&pcid=47Looking at the Pats list, all I can say is GET WELL SOON TOAST WE NEED YOU ON THE FIELD THIS SUNDAY! so preatty much everyones good to go on their team sense we know their injured report is never true heh
ArmyBengal
Don't know if it has been mentioned, but the Pats put one of their starting CB's, Randall Gay on IR and obviously won't be playing Sunday. This can't bode well for the Pats secondary facing our offensive firepower !!!WHODEY !!!

coupdayta
It's good to have a level headed Patriots fan to chat with. I have a great deal of respect for your franchise and think Bellichick is still probably the best coach in the NFL. That said, I still think the Bengals will win this game. We're coming off a huge win and Pittsburgh and are playing with confidence. While I do expect Maroney/Dillon to put up some good numbers, I also expect Carson Palmer to shred the NE secondary. I for one am amazed he kept his composure during the Pittsburgh game, getting sacked 6 times. Even with a good pass rush, Palmer will still pull through and get the ball to Chad, TJ and Henry. All in all, it should be a great game.Bengals 31, Patriots 17WHO DEY!
ohwhyknott
Bengals 34-17. 4-0 at the bye. Whoda thunk it? Sounds about right to me. They do have 2 of the top 10 rated rookies this year. (according to SI) but it's too little to make up for what they lost.

This can't bode well for the Pats secondary facing our offensive firepower !!!WHODEY !!!Yeah and I believe that's where the illustrious James Sanders came in with Hobbs and Samuel and got destroyed Sunday in man coverage. It wasn't so long ago this team had Ty Law, Tyrone Poole and Samuels to go with Harrison and Wilson. Lot different now and the Bengals will reap the benefit especially against slower footed LBs who aren't able to blitz as fast or cover as well as the Steelers LBs were. Thats a 1st and a last.If you notice this pic from CHFF....was doctored. The real pick was taken where we tailgate at the Razor. I had some Indy posters who made the trip out there 2 years ago as guests of my tailgate party. We knew the cop and had him "pretend" to arrest a couple of them.LOL,

redsbengalsbucks
Is Dillon going to play this week?HA! I know 15 Boston sportwriters that would LOVE to know that answer and the answer to a million other questions that Belichick keeps locked in his personal vault at Fort Knox!Brady's been questionable for 2 and a half years! Welcome. Why thank you. I'll be here all week. Try the veal and please, tip the waitresses. The veal sucks, but so do the waitresses.
