BengalszoneBilly
Yesterday the Bengals defense put minimal pressure on Roethlisberger, too often giving him practically all day to get rid the ball. Had it not been for the fact that he plain sucks as a thrower and the good coverage the secondary provided on the recievers, I truly believe the Bengals would not have won that game. We cannot afford to do the same thing against the Patriots next week. We need players that can provide consistent pressure on the opposing quarterback. Odell Thurman is a prime example of that sort of player.

In Cincinnati of all places. It's not like there is defensive gems just growing on trees around these parts!
buck3y3d
He made a ton of mistakes too.I like Thurman as a player, and would love to see him return because I think he could grow into a star. However, I am confident that we can get to the SB with our current team and LJ, Simmons, Brooks, Geanty, and Miller. That is how I can forget Thurman and his contributions to the team. BengalszoneBilly
He made a ton of mistakes too.Totally unheard of as a rookie I know, but can't ya' cut him a break here? I'm sure he'll learn to play better football through his mistakes, as he will learn to be a better man through the mistakes he makes in life. We all do. He's just learning his now. If he's anything close to normal, he'll probably make a few more mistakes later on in his life too!
HoosierCat
The ironic thing about this thread, of course, is that everyone's favorite picture, the "flying Odell" is in fact a picture of Odell screwing up, leaving his feet and missing the sack. Are we better with him? Yup. Will Simons do in the middle instead? Yup. Do we need Brooks to step it up and show Marvin he deserves to be on the field. Oh, effing 'a yeah. GregCook
Hey, its the NFL, by this time next year, who knows who will be injuried? Odel signed a big contract and no team will cut him under the circumstances. But he's gone for a long time, with luck, Brooks, Jenty, and Nicholson will be ready to play big minutes and Odel won't be missed.
BengalszoneBilly
But he's gone for a long timeI'll wait for the decision from the powers that be before I'll except that. Stranger things have happened, and hope blooms eternal.
agreen_112
That's a good point. IF we give Brady that same amount of time to sit back in the pocket he'll chew our defense up. He's the perfect pocket passer. Our need for Odell will show this week against the Pats.
CBin2k7
Odell is not the only LB on the team that can get to the QB. Playing against the Pats offense requires a lot of discipline within the scheme. The Patriots are probably one of the top screen teams in the NFL, they run a lot RB screens and a lot of TE screens. Brady feeds on out of control blitzing LB's, and Faulk/Maroney will gain alot of yards off screens if the LB's don't play with that discipline. Odell makes plays, but he doesn't play with discipline. Its a completely different ball game going from college to the NFL. 1 season and he's already the best LB on this team, in my book.

The coaches pretty much said that last season he made as many bad plays as he did good plays. Sure making an INT or a sack is great, but if your lack of discipline leads to a blown coverage or filling the wrong gap and that leads to a TD, then I will say that is a wash. I think he is the most talented LB on the team, I don't know about best
buck3y3d
Odell is not the best LB on the team. Right now, that has to be Simmons.Look, I know Odell has potential, but you have to be a team. Odell never bought into the team idea, and clearly, still can't. I remember reading an article in which coaches were quoted as saying Odell was clearly inmature and had to grow up on and off the field (this was long before his suspension). I almost feel as if Odell is a distraction to a clearly solid defense (good secondary, LBs, and an average front 4).

ArmyBengal
I'll tell you all something...This is the most pathetic excuse for conversation about a 2nd year player I've seen in a while on here. For one, it's amazing how we can give all sorts of credit and the ability to improve upon their rookie season to everyone on the team except Odell. Odell was looked upon for DROY honors and all of a sudden, he isn't worth a sh*t and isn't looked upon as being needed on this team ?? I CALL BULLSH*T !!! Everyone was licking their collective chops thinking about how Odell was going to improve with another year of camp and being in the system before his legal woes. ROOKIE MISTAKES ?? Isn't that a given for ANY rookie playing or was this something exclusive to Odell ?? Get over making excuses here and realize the fact that this team is better with Odell on it regardless of how much of a f*cking idiot he is...BULLSH*T I'll tell you BULLSH*T !!!Odell will be back this year or next and I just hope he gets his head on straight and proves his worth on the field...WHODEY !!! He looked way out of shape. Standing next to him, he looked overweight. Second of all, the problem is do character issues outweigh the talent he brings?TO is a good reciever. I hope he never plays for the Bengals. Odell is a good LB, but I don't think you need 5 chances to get on the field. If he wanted to contribute, then he should be a professional, otherwise get off the team. Why should the Bengals waste time with him? Using expletives doesn't help your arguments, it just makes me feel like i got yelled at.
HoosierCat
Army, did you actually *read* the thread? No one anywhere said he wasn't worth a sh*t or wasn't needed. Everybody agreed that we'd be better with him on the field. Go ahead, look, I'll wait. There, see?Sheesh. Relax.
ArmyBengal
Sorry Hoosier I was replying to all posts in general concerning Odell, not just this thread, but I got ya !!! Second, it's still funny to me how people just write off something and argue that his "rookie mistakes" were a problem for us and not giving thought to the fact HE WAS A ROOKIE !!!As for the character debate, you can't bring TO into this conversation, because the two aren't related... Odell has an alcohol / drug / maturity issue, while TO is an egotistcal dumbf*ck !!! Apples and oranges in my mind...I'll let you guys continue to call it, I'll chill out...Sorry if my expletives offend, it's just how I talk when I get assed up !!!If anyone chooses to label me a caveman type for doing so, I promise not to get offended... Thick skin you know ??WHODEY !!!

ShulaSteakhouse
Odell's an idiot. When he decides to stop getting tanked and stoned every night like a stupid jacka$$, maybe we'll see him again in a year or two. He's already severely screwed up his life and his future quite possibly, and wasted a very high round draft pick of our's on his whino a$$.Brooks has been a disappointment, I hope that guy figures it out by next year. Lot of high draft pick problems the last two years that's for certain.

Second, it's still funny to me how people just write off something and argue that his "rookie mistakes" were a problem for us and not giving thought to the fact HE WAS A ROOKIE !!!I hear ya. As a Bengals fan, I would love to see him back on the field, I think he'd raise the level of play, and one can reasonably expect fewer mistakes the second time around. But that said, I can think of a lot of other guys on this team that I would be more upset about losing, espcially given the way Simmons has been playing. I made the comment that I'm more concerned about the health of Braham and DJ than I am with Odell. I'm just not willing to write him off like others are, the same way they were willing to write off Henry. By the way, for those willing to write off Henry, just how do his balls taste ??WHODEY !!!Expletives don't offend me, they just make me feel like i got yelled at.And see, I'm of the mindset that there is a difference in just using said expletive:"F*ck, that F*cking sucks" versus, directing it at someone:"F*ck you, you stupid Motherf*cker"The way I always explain it (I do it often) better to only have to listen to it than to have it directed at you !!!That being said, I have no issues with any of you bitches !!!
