"Expert" Picks

I'm pleasantly surprised at how well the "experts" at ESPN have picked through the first two weeks... Theismann and Allen have continued their yearly habits of being behind the rest... but otherwise good stuff.

Maybe, just maybe, we won't have to include quotation marks with their prestigious titles sometime soon. Well, nevermind... that'll never happen.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. In order to be an "expert" in my book, you have to be privy to information that I am not. Almost none of these guys are going based on anything more than their own gut feelings, just like the rest of us. What is "expert" about that?

The 2 guys I respect the most are Hoge and Jaws, because they do break down tape... and that is information and analysis that I'm unable to acquire. So... even though I don't always agree with their assessments... I'll take the quotations off for those guys.

Agreed... I take a lot of stock in what Mort has to say as well... He might not do quite as much video homework as the other two, but he's a knowledgeable guy regardless. I'm just glad they don't have Elf picking games.

This is a guarantee!!!!!!!

I guarantee that Golic, Allen and Salisbury all pick Pittsburgh!!!!!!!!.... all three of them always short change the Bengals. Until we start to consistently beat them they will always pick s**tsburgh over us!

Ill check this on Friday!

Golic picked Cincinnati, as did Trey Wingo on Colin Cowherd's show. I haven't heard anyone pick the Steelers yet.

That doesn't really settle with me all that well. It seems like people are reading a whole lot into the Jags game.

On the other hand... my confidence took a serious hit in the the Browns game with all the injuries. But we're still a better team than we were last year, and I think we were better than them last year.

Also... take a look at the Jags injury report. It makes our injury problems not seem so bad.

ill leave the guaranteing to Chad, I guess I was wrong on Golic.

A prediction for Pitt, based on the Bengals missing three defensive starters. I'm still trying to find the two beyond Dexter. I suppose he must be adding in Odell and Pollack...but Odell has been out all year so far; and Pollack was out for game one and appeared only briefly in game 2. In which we gave up more points than game 1.

But hey, sure, whatever...

Can't believe Hoge picked the stealers <_<

is that the sacrcasm smiley? Ex-steeler homer picked the steelers - go figure?

Its a bit of a surprise to me.. He did pick us to win the AFC and the SB. Id think that he would give us a little more credit and pick us in the big games.

This is all most probably due to the amount of injuries the Bengals suffered last weekend alone. I feel Marvin has a deep enough roster, talent-wise, to suitably fill in for these players until they recover from their individual injuries.

One more thing we have going for us that the Steelers do not. Momentum. Cincy hasn't lost a game since last years playoffs heart breaker when Carson went down. While Carson was picking himself back up, Pittsburgh was stumbling and bumbling their way through the preseason, and lo and behold...they stumbled again last Monday against the Jags. Go figure. I'm picking the Bengals to win big, two touchdowns minimum. Final score: Cincinnati 37-Pittsburgh 17. Not so much because of our offense lights 'em up real bad, but more because our defense is going to take some ques from what they saw Jacksonville do last week and again shut down the Steelers marginal offense. :bengal:

Hoge surprised me and picked the Steelers. I guess I got a little spoiled hearing him talk to complimentary about the Bengals.

I don't know what swayed him in his opinion, but I don't think 100% confident in that pick. I saw him on ESPN today, and he talked about how he thought Ben got his jitters out of him, and that he'd play a much better game this week (we'll see... I think he's still afraid to get hit).

However, he broke down a little film of Rudi against Pittsburgh, and showed why the Pittsburgh defense won't be able to stop Cincy's offense. It seems like he's a bit conflicted on his opinion, so he just chose his favorite team.
