in9itrust Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 We were lucky to win that game. We gave up way too many sacks and the defense was horrible against the run. A lot of stuff to work on, but don't get me wrong, a win is a win no matter how you look at it. Quote

We were the more complete team. The Steelers can talk all they want about how poorly they played... but that was the worst game I've ever seen our O-line play, and I've never seen Palmer so prone to fumbles. When the 4th quarter came around, we did what we do. We were opportunistic, and dictated to them. Say what you want about the turnovers. That is a part of our game, and we capitalized, like we always do. A defense that was truly dominating us wouldn't allow 2 consecutive 1 play TD drives. Our team forced Ben to attempt to win the game with his arm... something he has shown he's unable to do. As long as we can dictate to opposing teams what kind of game we'll play, we'll win. It has nothing to do with "luck." Quote
TJJackson Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 It has nothing to do with "luck."I'd say the fumbled punt return was pretty lucky (err, from the Bengal point of view)I'd further say that saying that it had NOTHING to do with luck - when there are luck elements to nearly every play - is rather unthinking Quote

"luck" is always a part of football... but let's not act like we were more "lucky" than any other team that won yesterday. Did the fumbles hurt the Steelers badly? Sure... but not as badly as Palmer's persistence. Was our O-Line playing badly before the fumbles, sure... but that just goes to show you how electric a team built on the big play can be. You don't just throw a 30 yard TD pass by accident. You out-play the opponent. Palmer wasn't "lucky" he threw 4 TD passes, and was able to go for the throat the second he got a chance. He was better than them.So you can call it "luck" if you like... but we were also better than them. Quote
BengalByTheBay Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 This is exactly the kind of game we used to lose and the squeels used to win. Let's face it, they always capitalized immediately on our key mistakes. Yesterday, we scored immediately after their mistakes and the d did what it had to do. End of story. Mistakes were made on all sides and always will be in every game. Quote

When we beat Pittsburgh last year, they played an equally bad game. They had 4 turnovers to our 0, and we won by 7. Even then we were forced to put up 38 points, and our Def gave up 31.This time we we had 3 turnovers of our own, and one of their 5 came on basically the last play of the game. We held them to only 20 points, and we didn't need to play the perfect game to beat them. We played every bit as poorly as they did... but we capitalized on their mistakes, because we believed we would win. That's the real difference. We knew that even though we didn't have momentum mid-way through the 4th quarter, we expected to get it back... and we did. Quote
in9itrust Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 We did what we had to do to win the game. I'm happy, but Guliac needs to improve still. It really showed when there was confusion with blocking which led to the sacks. But, this goes to show how good our team really is. We make a lot of mistakes but still come out on top. Imagine how good we can be when everyone executes and we get some starters back. We can write off Thurman (what an a**h***) but our recievers are sick. WHHHHOOOO DEEEYYY Quote
