Stripes
I'm not normally one to have such radical opinions regarding starters getting benched, but I really think it's time to get Tory out of there. He was a major liability today, and I'm not just talking about the long pass to Braylon Edwards.Joseph is obviously young and could be mistake proned, but I'd feel much more comfortable with him starting to keep more speed on the field. Tory has lost more than just a step. I was very disappointed with his performance today, even considering the overall domination the defense displayed.Thoughts? Spain
Your right, but Keiwan is the replacement for tory(looking Old).
Stripes
Could be I suppose... but with Joseph taking Keiwan's nickle spot before the season started I'd have to disagree.
membengal
Not next week. Either against NE or after the bye.
Stripes
It's good that Pitt's receivers beyond Hines Ward are relatively unimpressive... Cedrick Wilson won't be too big a worry if Tory plays, and Santonio Holmes isn't very fast either.
Spain
Keiwan gets no respect at corner.
HoosierCat
Knowing Marvin's "see better than I hear" mantra...I suspect JJ will have every opportunity to win the starting job.One idea: move Tory to (strong) safety, put Madieu back at FS... Stripes
While at the game, I noticed Madieu lining up at corner a few times... Maybe that could be a sign of things to come. I'd rather just throw the rookie in there and keep Madieu with KK or D-jack, but they know better than I.I love this depth.
Kazkal
Why was james on edwards anyways? should deltha be on their best wr o_OKnowing Marvin's "see better than I hear" mantra...I suspect JJ will have every opportunity to win the starting job.One idea: move Tory to (strong) safety, put Madieu back at FS...I don't think that would be so bad actually, diden't rod woodson move to safety towards the end? schweinhart
Joseph might get juked and have to recover but at least he has a shot to make a play deep against virtually any WR in the league. James does not. And if K2 is going to be the centerfielder again, the Bengals had better have their best man cover options on both corners. James is not one of them.I think Joseph should start now and force Big Bozo and Brady to try to beat him in man. He's ready and more than able. Stripes
and Santonio Holmes isn't very fast either.Um, yeah he is. Eh, I'll say he's fast enough to give Tory some trouble (though he's not the 2nd receiver yet, so it's not as big an issue), but I think his supposed speed coming out of the draft was vastly overrated. He never impressed me in that area when he was a Buckeye.
ArmyBengal
I think Tory will stay where he is right now, but by mid season, this could be another story. I like the idea of moving Tory to safety if DJ is going to be out for more than a game or two, but doubt it will happen. K2 is still garbage to me and I think the defense drops off TONS with him in there. (love how he got his ass drug today) Spain, it just seems I'm in disagreement with you alot lately and to say Ratliff will step into the starters role is just crazy. He lost the job to Joseph at the start of the season and would be the one to get the call if Tory gets pulled. that's what he was drafted for, unless you don't believe the coaches. Ratliff gets no respect because he hasn't done a f*cking thing outside of being average. I will say I like having him for depth, but nothing more...WHODEY !!! CBin2k7
I don't like the idea of moving Tory James to safety. To me, he doesn't tackle well enough and to be a safety, you have to be able to tackle. Sure, Tory may be able to roam in space, but the way Marv and Bres like to play their safeties interchangeable, I can't vision Tory James making stops on running backs in space. Now James playing FS in Nickel or Dime may be a different story.
HoosierCat
Anyway...did I really hear a James to safety recommendation? Has he ever played safety before? If Toast can play safety for the Pats, James can play safety for us. (PS yeah I know Toast is out)
Kazkal
Woulden't tory make more sense for ward who isen't known for his speed?i'd like JJ vs Santurdio holmes though sense he's a noob so both lack experiance.I think Tory will stay where he is right now, but by mid season, this could be another story. aaronburr
Ratliff's value is in his versatility, but if he was good enough to be the starting CB, he wouldn't have been beat out by a rookie with relatively little college experience. A little bit of "jack of all trades, master of none". I was thinking the same thing about Tory moving to safety if Dexter is out. Rod Woodson made that move later in his career and it seems to me that it would benefit a rookie like Joseph to have Tory on the field at the same time. walshfan
Tory played allright until Jax went down.. KK plays deep center and no help with cover on Braylon ..Tory to blame ? maybe but the defensive scheme was bad on that play
agreen_112
if d-jax is out then we'll have to make changes, KK just doesn't have what it takes to cover the top. I love his effort, but if we want to get deep into the playoffs we're going to have to do something. I say pick up Vincent from buffalo if d-jax is going to be out for any significant amount of time. Keiwan isn't the answer, we've all seen him get beat deep one too many times in the pre-season and last year. JJ is the answer to a replacement for Tory, but not until mid-to-next season. He should also already have the nickel spot locked down. Tory's ok, It was just one big play, baxter from the browns should've had that happen twice if not 3 times. BlainThePain
I hate the idea of Tory at SS. The weakest part of his game is the ability to tackle. No way Tory beats out KK for the safety spot.
derekshank
Joseph isn't polished yet... but he also wouldn't have Edwards run right past him (and Dexter wouldn't have been dragged 15 yards like KK was). Anyway... I think this is jsut further proof that Joseph will eventually get his job. When he's ready, Tory will move to the nickle. Tory will be one of the best Nickle corners in the league, because he's got long arms and is a s ure tackler for possession receivers and TE's. Joseph on the other hand won't have burners run right past him... and hopefully Dexter will be back at full-strength to help him out. When it comes to playoff time, our secondary should be pretty fantastic.
Stripes
Tory played a little better against the Steelers, but still had his struggles. I was really astonished with Joseph's performance throughout the game. I only recall seeing one pass completed against him all game long. He was a difference maker on multiple plays.Henceforth, I bump this thread.
Kazkal
Normally QB's pick on rookie CB's itsz just not happening with JJ gotta give him mad props. game 3 you think he'd be pulled by now after getting toched a few timesala pacman jones. HoosierCat
Joseph is definitely coming along nicely and seems to me at least to be getting more PT. Clearly, Marvin and Bresh are noticing.
