Chris Perry - A Former Bengals #1 Draft Choice

  1. 1. Is He A Bust, Or Not?

    • NO! He's just had some bad luck with injuries. He'll show he's worth the #1 pick given time.

    • YES! This guy is more fragile than a box full of china without any bubble wrap!

When he's on the field, he's exactly what the Bengals intended for him to be.

C'mon...like derekshank pointed out, shouldn't we aim a little higher than a "Change Of Pace" running back with our #1 draft choice? Carson Palmers first round pick has paid off like a progressive $5 token machine hitting a royal flush at a Casino in Las Vegas. Chris Perry's first round pick has paid off like hitting a full house on a nickle machine on the Indian reservation. Sure...we have a few coins in our pocket, but financially we're still in the hole playing this machine. <_<

Honestly I can't see Mike Brown paying this much money for so little to show for it next year. This will be Perry's "Make-It-Or-Break-It-In-Cincinnati" season. :bag:

Chris Perry is a good RB, I even think that if he could stay healthy for any period of time he could be an OK starter for the team.

That said, you have to question using a 1st round pick for a back up anything ,unless it you QB of the future.

While Perry has flashed skills he has not shown himself worthy of 1st round status, while some of that has to do with Rudy being ahead of him and some of that has to do with his constant spraing of his ovaries.

He is looking more like Kijana Carter and less like James Brooks every season.

I watched perrys best game I feel for us yesterday the home opener against the vikes week 2 last year and he was impressive.

Id say No bust give him a little time he gets healthy now and stays healthy for the rest of the year and shows what he can do then he stays.

also remember people he almost broke james brooks reception record last year and he missed some games.

I don't think that's what the Bengals were after when they took Perry. Rudi Johnson had proven nothing at the time in regards to carrying the load for a full season, and we had absolutely zero depth at the position behind him. Kenny Watson wasn't going to cut it as a backup, and an improvement was needed. I do think a late first round pick is worth the kind of depth Perry provides when he is healthy.

Obviously he hasn't been healthy often enough, but I need more time to call him a bust.

:unsure::unsure: I think the jury's still out on this one. Coming in from Michigan State, he was allready beat to death, with all of those carries. & it was easy to understand his rookie season not being so productive. All the little injuries he's had since, it is getting tougher to deal with, because he was a #1 pick. You should be able to depend on that top pick to come through for you, so I understand why people are suggesting "bust"---I guess it is time to know, one way or another. I've tried not to think about the injury jinx, this franchise has had in the past. But since it's been brought up---Ki Jana Carter, 'nuff said on him---Tim Krumrie's Super Bowl leg snap, on the first set of defensive downs---Kenny Anderson's exorcist impression at the hands of Kieth Gary, & the Pittsburgh pass rush, that eliminated the Bengals from the playoffs, & ended the productive part of his career---Greg Cook taking the league by storm with a left arm cannon, soon to be shredded by Buck Buchanon, & the K.C. Chiefs---Even though he played in the SB with it, Boomer Esiason taking 2 injuries, 2 weeks in a row, & culminating in Buffalo, with Bruce Smith jamming his helment into Boomer's throwing hand, in the AFC Championship game. He played in the SB, but he was throwing flutterballs all day long, & of course Carson Palmer's hatchet job, in the playoffs last year.---- It's not just the injuries, every team has them. It's allways been the timing, that makes it fall into the catagory of 'jinx' ----I appologize for this post, but when people begin talking about injury, I can't help but remember, all of the pain we've shared with our players, over the years. It's a new day in Cincinnatti, & dwelling on nagging injuries, only drives me crazy with worry.

I'm sure todays game against the Browns only served to drive you a little more "crazy" then.

Question:  Does anyone here know for sure when (if ever) Mr. Raymond Christopher Perry come off the Bengals "Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform" list? <_<

Technically, week 6. At which point I expect his spleen to explode or something. (Yeah, among the other things you missed is me giving up on this bum.) My only real question is, does his roomie in the infirmary, David Pollack, follow him into injury oblivion?

Doesn't it also strike you as odd that both of these former #1 draft choices were also guilty of holding out of their initial training camps for more dinero? I'm not so down on Pollack for that, because his hiatus wasn't as lengthy as was the man formerly known as "Two Carry Perry's" was.

Personally, I feel we've gotten at least some bang for our buck out of David Pollack,

but with Chris Perry we're so far into the hole with him that we'll be lucky to ever break even with this guy. It's doubtful his limited play has even covered the medical bills he's incurred while a member of this team!

Actually, IIRC Pollack's holdout was longer than Perry's, and in any case more crucial IMHO since he was changing positions. Both guys have flashed in their limited action, but neither has been anything approaching a solid starter -- IMHO the minimum for a 1st round pick -- much less a real difference maker.
