Marvin Blows Up in Press Conference

Was it me or did I hear Marvin Lewis throw some serious smack at Chuck Ludwig of the Dayton Daily News? I couldn't catch all of Ludwig's question and additional statement but whatever it was M. Lewis was none the happier about it. It had something to do about Ludwig writing about the nickel corner situation and something specific about Kaesviharn. Ludwig was asking about the nickel after Lewis said O'neal will be questionable this week and Joseph will start.

There must be bad blood between Lewis and Ludwig...

It was a serious bitch slapping moment. Chick was pushing Marvin on who the nickle corner was going to be. After Marvin said he wasn't going to say who it would be, Chick followed up with "will it be Ratliff or Kaesviharn?" to which Marvin responded with something like "I don't think this is funny. If you want to keep this up then I'll shut this thing down right now." followed by an awkward silence.

Good radio . . .

LAME by Marvin. There's no reason we shouldn't know such a thing. And there's nothing wrong with asking that question - good for Chick.

Our pro bowl starter from last year has been missing all preseason and is now questionable for the opener and we don't even get a hint as to what's wrong with him?

Marvin gets on my nerves when it comes to this stuff.

I dont understand why people get annoyed with Marvin's treatment of the media. Marvin obviously looks at his press conferances as a burden and an intrusion on his real job of winning games. That is fine with me. Its much better than the coaches that seem to revel in preening in front of the media like Herm Edwards, Brian Billick and Bill Parcels. I can see why members of the media dont like it, by why should fans give a crap.

I like the fact Marvin doesn't give up much information like that. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to know, but it's Marvin ship and he runs it his way. He has always been like that and this is nothing new. It's not like he all of a sudden started shutting out the media when it comes to topics like these. It has always been like this...

WHODEY !!!

It might get on your nerves but it is great coaching. why reveal anything you don't have to? <_<

Why would this get on your nerves. Are you that big of a FF geek? :lmao: (just funning)

Unfortunately, his "real job" does include dealing with the media. That's part of the job description. And especially in Cincy, he knew coming in he would be the face of the team. Now, that doesn't mean he has to slavishly kiss the media's butt, and he's hardly the first coach to tell a reported to stick it where the sun don't shine, but it does[/] behoove him to keep a civil relationship up. And really, I think that he generally has. But yeah, I agree he doesn't seem to like the media, and he might want to work on that.

Maybe there's something we don't know? Perhaps he hasn't decided yet? Whatever the reason, when the man tells you he isn't going to answer a question leave him alone and move on.

I think Marvin was mostly annoyed that Chuck was trying to use old reporter tricks to lure an answer out of Marvin against his wishes. It'd piss me off too if someone were trying to play games with me like that.

This is something Marvin has agreed to do on his terms...it's not a police interrogation where we have the right to all the facts.

both will play the nickle come sunday. and i dont mind marvin not talking about injuries unless for sure they are going to be out. no need for our opponent to have more information than they have to be given.

I personally enjoy not having to see this as HUGE news on ESPN everytime I turn it on and have all the ANALysts decide how the team is never going to be worth a sh*t this year and it's all coming crashing down around poor Carson who has worked so hard to recover from his injury. Thanks Marvin !!!

WHODEY !!!

Dealing with the media is part of the job, but I would imagine that it gets old to have people essentially "second guess" your decisions on a daily basis. And even if the reporters aren't being accusatory, I think it would take somebody who actually enjoys dealing with reporters to not have a Jim Mora moment every once in a while.

Overall, I think Marvin does a pretty good job with the media. It seems obvious that he would prefer not to reveal any details about anything, so to me, he does well making the compromises he's forced to make. He's a far cry from the Parcells and Belichecks of the world.

Plus, half the time, aren't reporters just feeding coaches/players quotes and waiting for confirmation? Sports journalism is hardly the pinacle of the fourth estate.

I love Marvin's handling of the press. Those guys are jerks and ask the same question over and over. Go learn the game, do some research and come back and ask an educated question.

I find the confs extremely entertaining and watch every week just to laugh at how Marv handles 'em. Pure Gold if you ask me. Besides, why do you want all our player details/gameplans/whatever out so that the opponent can better prepare?

:bengal:

and BTW...

a blow is RMK or Herm ala New York last year when they were imploding, "WE PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!" or Tuna, not (so far) Marv with his dismissal of Chickee.
