HoosierCat Posted September 4, 2006 Author Report Posted September 4, 2006 No Reggie McNeal There's still a slot available (the "QB slot")... Quote
ArmyBengal Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 Yep, one spot left... Hopefully McNeal will be there !!!WHODEY !!! Quote
jjakq27 Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 I read that Cowher said they are looking for another QB since whats-his-face is out this week. I hope that the Bengals sign McNeil and he doesn't go to Pittsburgh. Quote
GapControl Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 No Reggie McNeal There's still a slot available (the "QB slot")...Does anyone know exactly how the practice squad operates? Does it only allow for on-the-field practice sessions alongside equivalent active roster positions? Or does the P squad turn into the scout team with the addition of key backup active players from the 45 man roster? What is the true day to day function of the practice squad and it's players? Quote

Tasher Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 McNeal and his agent unreachable over the holiday weekend to sign. He will be signed later today or tomorrow. Quote
Stripes Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 Great to see Henderson and Wilkerson make it. I'm pleasantly surprised Busing got this far too. Quote
Ox Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 Look at my boy Holt making the squad. At least there is one piece of good news for the Wildcats this weekend. Quote
Kazkal Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 Well I was atleast right about tahi being one Quote

What is the true day to day function of the practice squad and it's players?Teams get to put 8 players -- one of which has to be a QB -- on a practice squad. (The Bengals actually get 9 slots this year, the 9th being taken by international PS player Daniel Watts.) PS players don't count against the 53-man roster. They can practice freely with the rest of the club, in whatever role (first team, scout team, whatever) the team wants to put them. A team can activate (i.e. put them on the regular 53-man roster) a PS player at any time, but obviously they need to cut/IR an active player to make room. Any team can also sign any player from any other team's practice squad at any time during the season, but they must be signed to that team's active roster. Quote

So if a team tried to pick up Wilkerson, the Bengals could instead activate him from the practice squad instead of losing him? Quote
HoosierCat Posted September 4, 2006 Author Report Posted September 4, 2006 They could, assuming the PS player told them he was signing with another team. But as far as I know there's no automatic right to match, so to speak. I could be wrong, however, it's been known to happen... Quote

Tasher Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=5460MCNEAL WATCH: When the Bengals return to work Wednesday, wide receiver Reggie McNeal is expected back as the last member of the practice squad. On Saturday, head coach Marvin Lewis said the Bengals told him they wanted to develop him as both a quarterback and receiver, and that will begin Wednesday when the club continues preparation for Sunday’s regular-season opener in Kansas City. Lewis held a closed practice Monday for about 90 minutes before launching into the weekly schedule of Tuesday’s off day. Quote
aaronburr Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 McNeal and his agent unreachable over the holiday weekend to sign. Not sure I buy that story. Sounds like a last ditch effort to solicit offers from other teams. What agent goes on vacation the weekend rosters are being finalized? Quote
GapControl Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 Thanks for the clarification HoosierCat. Quote
jditty47 Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 saying mcneal is going to be a qb/wr allows them to not have to have a QB on the PS. love the move, this will allow him to be even more of a threat for our offense either later in the year, or next season. as a wr hes not doing to shabby...had a couple nice catches in the preseason, and hes fast as hell. GROIIIDayton Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 McNeal will be here by Wednesday they said Quote
AMC Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 Nice to see Ghent on the PS in case one of the TEs go down....Hopefully Wilkerson will stay on with the Bengal's PS all year. Towards the end of the year he could get picked up by another team IMO.... Quote
schweinhart Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 Wow, I got Ernestoed for the last 5 days so this is all news to me.It is good to have Ghent on the PS ready to jump the roster if needed. Same with Henderson, Wilkerson and McNeal but those 3 seem likely to get plucked at some point during the season. Gotta like Busing there too.Overall great squad.I'm confused about the whole QB on the PS thing though. Most teams don't do it. Teams usually have their 3rd QB on the inactive list as an emergency QB who can become active during the game if the first 2 QBs go down. Quote
Tasher Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 News scrolling across NFLNetwork and now on the Bengals site...http://bengals.com/news/Transactions.htmlBody has been waived from the IR list w/ injury settlement... Quote
HairOnFire Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 Look at my boy Holt making the squad. I thought he was pretty impressive, but I'm still sort of shocked that he made the PS. No complaints mind you, but I thought he was going to get caught in a numbers game. That said, several impressive catches and he flashed a little wiggle after the catch more than once. Quote
