TJJackson
Not one of my top choices amongst the crop of tight ends this year, but he was spoken highly of by several other members here, and he was just released by the Bearshttp://www.suntimes.com/output/bears/cst-spt-bearnt25.htmlSome predraft profileshttp://www.nflfans.com/x/2006/showplayer.php?key=Tim%20Dayhttp://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2006/day_timhttp://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/draft/prospec...ntentId=5526648On athleticism and potential, I have to to think his name is at least being discussed by Marvin and Co
kingwilly
pass...he is just a raw Schoebel.
aaronburr
Heck, if Reggie Kelly keeps catching TD's, maybe we're not as bad at that position as everybody thinks.
DontPushMe
Highly rated? You're kidding right? I'd be suprised if anyone signed him.
Kazkal
He was 2nd TE i was hoping bengals would grab even if its just to PS .... I doubt will pick him up but it would bve nicePS,being from oregon his drop off on TD's was because of offense change

jjakq27
I think they might go with just 2 TE's this year. They've got too many WRs and probably want to keep McNeil and Kelly Washington, to go with T. Perry, TJ, Chad, Henry and Chapman. Throw in Brazell and you've got a logjam at receiver.I doubt that they pick him up unless he goes on the practice squad.
derekshank
If by highly rated you mean undrafted... then yes, we're in agreement. The fact that he was cut from the Bears just confirms what most NFL teams already assumed when they didn't waste a pick on him... he's not good enough. TJJackson
Thanks for your phenomenally uneducated, thick headed response"Undrafted" is not the same as "lacks talent".Dan Wilkinson was a number 1 draft pick. Tim Krumrie was picked in (I believe) the 10th round - by today's drafting standards, Tim Krumrie would have gone undrafted.Do you have enough reasoning ability to tell me who was the better player? I doubt it, but you can give it a shot.

You know.. the 3 awesome TE's that combined for a total of 250 yards last year. That's right... their TE depth is just as bad, if not worse that ours. And he was one of their earliest cuts.I also went undrafted... but in my case I'm not better than some of the 1st round busts. In my case it is because I'm not an NFL caliber athlete. So it seems that Tim Day and I have something in common. If he can't make it on the practice squad of the Bears, what in the hell do we want with him? Sometimes undrafted means untalented. That's right... their TE depth is just as bad, if not worse that ours.Well, I wouldn't leap to that conclusion based on yardage. After all, let's not forget that the Bears basically didn't have (and still don't have) a QB.I have no idea whether Day is any good or not, but I wouldn't hold being cut by da Bearz this year against him. The Bears are a mess right now, and there is a surprising amount of heat coming down on Lovie regarding the lack of improvements on the offensive side of the ball, as well as a number of distracting camp shenanigans. All that said, I'm with jjakq: pass on Day. Stick with 2 TEs and keep an extra wideout or o-lineman or something.

After all, let's not forget that the Bears basically didn't have (and still don't have) a QB.That too is a fair point... but it can be spun the other way. For instance... good TE's make a career off of bad QBs. Randy McMichael and Alge Crumpler have become famous because their QB's don't generally throw the ball that well down the field, so they dump it off to their TE's because of obvious mismatches. Desmond Clark was completely unable to take advantage of any type of mismatch. So my theory is that if Day is not good enough to take time away Clark, we probably don't need to waste our time with him. In Day's case, he's not even the 4th best TE on their roster, because if he had shown any promise whatsoever, you know Lovie would keep him to try to give his unproven QB one more target to throw to.As it stands, I don't think he's anything worth coveting. Palmer doesn't really need a great pass catching TE... and Kelly can catch the ball when Palmer gives it to him (as proven last night) so I don't see a reason to go around picking up cast offs from other teams trying to get a pass catching TE that we don't really need. jjakq27
As we have discussed here before this offense does not require or utilize the TE for pass receiveing very often. It is merely an extension of the offensive line.
TJJackson
I've heard this point before, and think it is irrelevantI think the point is to improve your team at every position whenever you can, and in that regard, the salary cap is always part of the consideration....just ask Hannibal Navies about that - he's probably a better LB than Ahmad Brooks right now, but he also earns an 8 year veterans salary.I am not saying that Tim Day is a better TE (he might be, he might not be) than the ones we have, butA) he has enough talent to warrant considerationand he'd definitely cost less, freeing up money for other signings like Big Willy and/or SteinbachSo while we may not use the TE much, we DO use them, and ergo it is a position like any on this team where you look to improve quality or free up cash when possible. Heck, since we only sparingly use the TE, it actually makes sense to emphasize the "free up cash" part of the equation for this spot. Dan2330
The Bears and highly rated Tight End's dont belong in the same sentence...sort of like how the Bengals and highly rated Tight End's don't either.........
Kazkal
Speaking of TE's I'd really like to see bengals make a push for graham next year though pats should just trade him to us
