cincykid06
I'm very concerned about the off field problems. I know a lot dismiss them as media hype but I'm concerned Marvin is letting things get out of control. We have the nucleus here to win more than one Lombardi- but first we have to clean up the garbage. One rotten apple spoils the bunch. I hate to say it but the Steelers are evidence of what building around character guys can accomplish. Now let's get the season started- I'm ready for some football! Wraith
hey Kid,Can you name any "off-season" problem committed by a Bengal player not named Henry? Nicholson and Rucker both have problems so minor they will be laughed out of court and we still have no idea what Odell tested positive for or even if he tested at all. That leaves Henry and askew and Askew is no longer on the team, quit believing everything you read this was just a bunch of bored journalists trying to find something to write about in the slow season. As for the steelers, how many problems did Santonio have in the offseason? Heck he rivals Henry.
BengalByTheBay
If Joey Porter is a "character" guy -- give me more Chris Henry. I suspect a little "BengalBillyBob" theory may be at work here rookie. Gee, I'm a Bengals fan, but the Steelers are really great.

Don't know what we'll happen with Thurman but according to his history of problems in college (I read the details before the 2005 draft) he seems to be a genuine scumbag. Talent AND character wins championships- there are some exceptions to that rule but not many.hey Kid,Can you name any "off-season" problem committed by a Bengal player not named Henry? Only Henry and Odell are having problems that exist on this roster. And with Henry, that will turn out to be a limited probationary charge and Thurman will come back as a reformed man. The only concern I have remaining with off-the-field issues is whether or not Henry will be suspended by the league -- and how long.BTW, welcome! bengal4life
It's been a litttle over a month since anyone's been arrested; what character issues are you talking about.

Heck he rivals Henry. You consider a guy with a history of sexual assault a minor problem? Wow. I'll give you Nicholson but Rucker's scary.Odell either got nailed for steroids OR he tested positive 3 times for weed/coke/PCP/whatever in his ROOKIE YEAR. Even if you assume that last one was a failed test, that's still 2 positives in one year. And if, after two positives, he missed a test that he knew would end up in a 4-game suspension, that's even dumber than doing the drugs in the first place. There's no way to whitewash Odell's stupidity. If I owned a business and 10% of my workforce got arrested in a year - one 4 times - I'd consider that a problem. rishipatel
At the end of the day, there's enough good character on this team, especially at its core, that the "bad character" won't make a difference, especially not on the field. Guys like Willie, Carson, Rudi, TJ, Levi, Simmons, Pollack, Sam Adams, Robinson...they'll keep the team focused on football. The league has doled out its punishment for Thurman, and when he returns, he'll be kept on a short leash. And if it is just weed, most people have smoked weed before, especially at his age. Now he's hopefully learned his lesson that its not worth the ramifications, both publically and financially.Henry will have his penalty handed down either by the courts or by the league based on convictions. In the mean time, he'll play just fine. Once his legal issues have been sorted out, the team will make a decision on what to do with him, but I have a feeling that he'll still find a way on to the team given his talent. If either of these guys have major trangressions again, they'll be booted out of here. Every team has guys with similar issues, but we just had a lot of headlines in a short span such that the media jumped on it. You don't see Redskins fans screaming to get rid of Sean Taylor, or Ravens fans saying cut Ray Lewis or Jamal Lewis, do you?As for Frostee and Nicholson, you have to let things play out to see what the courts decide. Remember there are a lot of unscrupulous people out there who are looking to get rich quick. What better way than to charge an athlete who is imminently turning pro with a crime. I'm not saying they didn't do anything to deserve their charges, but hold off on deciding on them until they are actually convicted of something...Innocent until PROVEN guilty. Don't worry, the team will be just fine. If we don't win a championship this yr, it won't be because of these off field issues.

I think the charges on Chris Henry will be reduced and then he will be placed on probation and avoid jail time. Suspension from the NFL, I believe, will not occur. OH, and just to make it clear on our admiration of the stealers* and their "character guys"Ox ... as usual, you and I always seem to have the same sense about smelly Stealer fans in Bengals clothing. I'll be surprised if this is not another, but, as you say, I'll also give the benefit of the doubt ... for now. BTW ... my wife and I have already rubbed dozens of black-n-urine idiots out of their collective minds as we are daily sporting as much Orange and Black as possible. You should see how everyone about breaks their necks as they see us enter stores, walk around amusement parsk, etc. Ah, the fun.
