Dadraftnick
CBS ranks the top 10 running backs and Rudi's name is nowhere to be found.SportsLine.com Senior WriterTell Pete your opinion! Pete Prisco ranks the NFL's top offensive players at each position. Running Back Player 1. LaDainian Tomlinson, Chargers His numbers aren't the best, but he is. The opposition lives in fear of what he can do. 2. Larry Johnson, Chiefs He was on the bench a year ago and now he's an elite back. That says something about how fragile a running back's life can be in this league. 3. Clinton Portis, Redskins He was much more comfortable in the Redskins' system last season -- and it showed. He'll be even better this season now that the passing game has help outside. 4. Shaun Alexander, Seahawks He's coming off a heck of a season, but some scouts still have some doubts about him. One thing you can't doubt is his production. 5. Tiki Barber, Giants At 31, he's coming off an MVP-type of season. He carried the Giants to the division title last season. 6. Edgerrin James, Cardinals He's been a consistent player his entire career and he's much needed in Arizona. The problem is he doesn't get the long runs anymore. 7. Steven Jackson, Rams A year from now he will be higher on this list. He's ready for his breakout season. He's big, strong and fast. 8. Fred Taylor, Jaguars The only thing holding him back has been injuries. If the offensive line plays better, he could have a huge season. 9. Cadillac Williams, Bucs He has that ability to make people miss and explode out of his cuts. He's another back who needs more from his line. 10. Ronnie Brown, Dolphins Without Ricky Williams around, he'll put up even better numbers than he did as a rookie. He's a power back who also has speed. membengal
Considering Prisco just put Rudi in his most OVERrated category, Prisco leaving him off this list is entirely consistent with his rather suspect views. Again, Prisco tends toward abject idiot, so grain of salt and all that.Plus, any list at this point that has Fred Taylor in the top 10 is short bus worthy... ArmyBengal
Well, all I'll say is anyone willing to put someone on the list based on the fact they "think" they are due for a breakout season (Jackson) versus someone that has broken their teams single season rushing mark in back to back seasons is an idiot. This has nothing to do with the fact that not everyone has to praise the Bengals, but HOLY HELL that is f*cking stupid !!!WHODEY !!!
The_Next_Big_Thing
Rudi will be in the top five in yardage again this year, if not the top 3.
Who Dey Time
It must be early July and their is nothing left to talk about. I could care less what Prisco thinks. Please let the season get here already so all these rankings and other random crap can take a step back to actual football.WHO-DEY!
BengalsMan3203
He didn't rank a single AFC North Runner...No Rudi, No J. Lewis, No Droughns, and No Parker.I thought the North had the best set of backs to offer period.

DC_Bengals_Fan
Meh I'd say hes ranked 8-10 area but he should be above Brown & Fred TaylorThat and I'll wait until Cadillac can play more than 5 good games in a season to rank him that high. I agree on Rudi being 8-10. A guy that gets you 4.0-4.3 a carry for a whole lot of smash-mouth, up-the-middle yards is a very valuable back. He may not break a ton of big plays, but that's why we have Carson et al.
Kazkal
He's never missed a game because of injury, had 0 turnovers last year and broke corey dillions/franchises record 2 years in a row soon as he was the starter

Thats nothing great.... I mean look.. Fred Taylor did more... And so did some rookie backers.... The guy is an idiot.... Rudi is a top 7 back in the NFL. Carson is a top 5 QB in the NFL.Chad is a top 3 WR in the NFL.We get some good young D, everyone will change their minds about everything on this team.... HoosierCat
This topic again??? DPM where are yooooooou??? While Prisco's list leaves several somethings to be desired (Taylor is a million years old and gets hurt if he farts too hard, and it's too early to say on Jackson and the Caddy, IMHO) I wouldn't tuck Rudi in the top 10. He lacks the elite speed and receiving ability to crack the list. But that said, he is far from slow, can catch some, is a willing and able blocker and pass protector, and is insanely durable. He also plays with passion; I recall someone (I think it was Ray lewis) saying a couple years back when Dillon and Rudi were sharing time that he hoped the Bengals played Dillon because Rudi played with more heart.I would rank Rudi in the 11-15 range. Stripes
Regardless of where he may rank on these stupid lists, he is producing comparable numbers with the MVP candidates. I'm satisfied!

Exactly, rank him at the bottom of the list if they so desire and when he breaks the single season rushing record again after coming back on healthy wheels, we can all laugh !!!WHODEY !!! HoTbOy
Easily he should be at least # 8 FTaylor has not played a full season in years and the other 2 were rookies last year, if RJohnson could/would catch more balls he would have easily made this list, but not his fault if the Bengals don't throw to him...Even though I wanted a RJohnson for JAbraham trade I am very happy with what he does for the Bengals...I just wanted a pass rush for the D, since they couldn't get to the QB... ArmyBengal
Rudi Johnson for Abraham would have been great with exception of losing Rudi... We would then be left with Perry, who from all accounts is hurting again...WHODEY !!!
derekshank
Rudi Johnson for Abraham would have been great with exception of losing Rudi... We would then be left with Perry, who from all accounts is hurting again...WHODEY !!!No joke. We would have been better off taking a 1st round DE than trading Rudi. Abraham can get to the QB, sure... but we would then need to use a 1st or at worst 2nd round pick on a RB to make up for the loss of Rudi... and rookies never know how to block. That would have left a huge void in our offense. As it is, we still have our O in tact, got a CB in the first, and a great O-lineman in the 2nd. We are arguing constantly about what we have in Rucker... but there is no way I trade Rudi for almost anything on defense right now. Rudi has a bigger impact on the 4th quarter for this team than any pass rusher will.

HoosierCat
The thought of trading Rudi Johnson for John Abraham makes me shudder.I would have done it.Huge risk? You betcha. But huge reward if it pans out. Abraham is an elite player -- and plays a position where it's very, very hard to find his caliber of guy. The downside is his injury history.Conversely, Rudi is Unbreakable. But he is IMHO "only" very good, not elite, and very good RBs seem a lot easier to come by than elite DTs. Still, with Carson iff you want a good run game... but a good D would be nice too. It's all academic, of course. And it isn't a slam dunk either way. But the idea of Abraham on one end, Justin on the other, and the two Big Fatties (Sam & Shaun) in between...well, if that makes you shudder imagine what it'd do to opposing QBs! ArmyBengal
I would rather the Bengals have traded up in this draft to grab a top level DE than give up Rudi. There are many teams that have yet to find a "very good back" and would give alot to have a Rudi type player. Anyone feeling comfortable with Perry and Watson in backfield would probably enjoy pounding their nuts flat to...WHODEY !!!
