Who Dey Time Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 Hobson reports that Ragone was traded to St. Louis for a late-round draft pick. The four QBs are set for training camp.WHO-DEY! Quote
HoosierCat Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 Nice. Not a bad return for a guy we just pluked off the waiver wire. Plus it suggests that all the good news about Carson isn't just a lot of smoke. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 Is there a link ?? I will go out on a limb here and say I don't like the move. I think Ragone would be the typical backup QB you are looking for and think he would have the skills needed to keep the ship afloat if Carson were to go down. Maybe they think the rookie will be able to better suit that role. I also can't see why there is so much faith in Johnson ?? It's hard to shine up a turd !!!WHODEY !!! Quote

WHODEY !!!I'll forward you this email I got from a guy in Nigeria. Says he needs someone to help transferring a fortune. Sounds like a great opportunity! Quote
membengal Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 Good lord. The Bengals pluck a guy off the wire, have him for a month, and then turn him into an actual draft pick? That's some fine, fine manuevering right there. Props to the front office. Quote
AGrizzlyBaer Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 i love it a guy they picked up had for a month and then traded for a pick cant complain there Quote
redsbengalsbucks Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 Anyone else surprised to see that Gus Ferrotten still has a job in the NFL? Quote
Who Dey Time Posted June 20, 2006 Author Report Posted June 20, 2006 Anyone else surprised to see that Gus Ferrotten still has a job in the NFL?Not to praise our beloved Gus, but I am a little suprised to see that he is still available. He wasn't all that bad in Miami last year. If Cleveland considered brining in Testaverde as a potential backup, then they would have to consider Frerotten. Quote

That's some fine, fine manuevering right there. Props to the front office. Agreed. After Ragone was claimed I wrote that he might be the young designated backup QB the Bengals are looking for, but I also guessed that his poor mechanics likely meant that he would be a total tear down project. A few days later I read about how little time remained on his original contract and wondered to myself if they would have the patience they would need to develope Ragone. Well, I just got my answer, and it was no. Amazingly the Bengals got a draft pick in return for a player that may not have made the final roster, and even if he did was likely going to be around for just one year. Huge props. Quote
ChadJohnson-85 Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 What draft pick did we get? ,7? Quote
AGrizzlyBaer Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 it said second day so im assuming 5 maybe, most likely a 6th just a thought Quote
ArmyBengal Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 I can't see this being anything more than a 6th at best, seeing as how better QB's could have been had for a 5th before the draft. WHODEY !!! Quote
BengalByTheBay Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 Regardless of the pick we got -- it's found money. Another signal of this move may be that they liked the way Meyer looked at that potential future backup spot. Quote
Stripes Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 Damn, great job Bengals. If we got a 6th round pick, this would be better than just a good deal too. I bet it was a 7th. Two thumbs up on this one. Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, it is a FREE pick. The guy wasn't going to make the roster anyway.Either Wright or Johnson will make the squad, along with Meyer. Either that, or Meyer will hit the PS and the other two will back up Carson. In any case, we just picked a quarter up off the street and traded it to a guy at the laundromat for thirty cents because all he had was three dimes. It's minimal, but still a good deal for the club. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 Nice comparison TNBT !!! I'll buy that !!!WHODEY !!! Quote
rwalling Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 Hobson reports that Ragone was traded to St. Louis for a late-round draft pick. The four QBs are set for training camp.WHO-DEY! Great strategery by the front office, it will be nice to have an extra 7th for a track star or option QB. As far as the 2006-07 roster goes - YAWN! Quote
HoosierCat Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 Great strategery by the front office, it will be nice to have an extra 7th for a track star or option QB. I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss an extra 7th. The Bengals have actually had very good luck in the final round in recent years. In the 6 drafts 2000-2005, they had 7 picks. Of those, 4 are still with the team: TJ, a bona-fide star; long-snapper Brad St. Louis, a key ST contributor; Scott Kooistra, who could start at G or RT on a lot of teams in this league; and Fanene, who showed a lot of potential as a utility defensive lineman last season. With that kind of record, I'll take all the 7th's I can get my hands on! Kazkal Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 Guess meyer impressed for backup QB of the future that or ragone diden't want a long term deal as carsons backup Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 I also can't see why there is so much faith in Johnson ?? It's hard to shine up a turd !!!WHODEY !!!Hey, when was the last time we had a guy named Johnson on the squad who didn't do a pretty good job when he was on the field? That alone is probably a good enough reason to have enough faith in this guy to ride the bench as an emergency, inactive, 3rd string QB! It's not like we expect him to play. Quote
Kazkal Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 "he trade also allows the Bengals to give free agent rookie Erik Meyer a shot to make the practice squad."Meh I'd hope more then the practice squad,I rather have QB as possible backup for carson rather then johnson who will be gone after a year I also can't see why there is so much faith in Johnson ?? It's hard to shine up a turd !!!WHODEY !!!Hey, when was the last time we had a guy named Johnson on the squad who didn't do a pretty good job when he was on the field?
