On June 17, 2006, Carson Palmer will host the first annual Carson Palmer Cornhole Classic presented by Cincinnati Bell and Huntington Bank to benefit his new charity partner, Lighthouse Youth Services.

The event begins at 2:00 p.m. on the Cincinnati Bengals practice field. Sponsors and guests will be treated to a unique event complete with amazing food and beverage, activities for all ages, prizes and giveaways, live entertainment by The Mukrackers and the opportunity to play cornhole against Carson’s teammates and other NFL friends.

Palmer developed the idea for the event soon after being introduced to the sport of cornhole while living in Cincinnati. “Shae and I got hooked on playing cornhole right after we moved out here. We have wanted to do an event that incorporates the sport for the past few years so we are excited that it’s finally going to happen,” said Palmer.

Over the past few years, Palmer has become passionate about using his success on the field to help abused and abandoned children. Lighthouse Youth Services is an agency that mirrors Palmer’s mission to help children who are not fortunate enough to receive the kind of upbringing his family provided.

“We are honored to be working with the Lighthouse Youth Services on behalf of the children. The people who work at Lighthouse are the true heroes and this is a great opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of the children,” said Palmer.

Palmer hopes the community will show Lighthouse the same compassion and support they’ve shown him through being a part of the Carson Palmer Cornhole Classic.

“I hope the Cincinnati community will support the children at Lighthouse the way they have supported me over the past few months. This is going to be an event unlike anything else in Cincinnati and we are so excited to share it with everyone. We will have a great time together while raising money for the children,” said Palmer.

Packages and sponsorships for the Carson Palmer Cornhole Classic start at $2,500. For more information, contact Natalie Schwab with Lighthouse at 513-487-7109.

Words fail me. I can't believe people play a game called "Cornhole."

Also, the PDF file that goes along with it states, "Eight celebrity players are assigned to your cornhole team."

Really quick, is Willie Anderson one of the players involved in this? I can think of few things worse than uttering the phrase "Big Willie has been assigned to my cornhole."

Thoughts?

As an out-of-stater all I can say is.... :o:o

And, yes, I have heard of the game before, but it still makes me wince every time.

EDIT:

And for anybody who expected PFT to lay-off of this one:

"The Carson Palmer Cornhole Classic begins on June 17 -- the Chris Henry Cornhole Classic won't begin until August 21, at the earliest."

(Okay, that's kinda funny actually)

I recently returned to the hinterland for a family visit, and while attending a party I was introduced to the glory of cornhole.

My reaction? I hated it.

Due to an unfortunate waxing of the immediate area surrounding the hole...(ahem)...my bag kept slipping off.

Screw 'dat.

<_<

I not sure whether to laugh out loud or double over in man pain :lmao:

I'll never understand Cornhole or why it's remotely entertaining to anyone, watching or playing...zzzz...

It's the modern, safe version of lawn darts.

I would say it's a safe versoin of horseshoes. That way, when you get tanked, you don't drop one on your foot or accidently chuck it into a crowd or something.

Man, what's your problem clowns! Cornhole is the best non-exertion sport/game ever. Cincinnati is the mecca of this s**t, but it's been spreading slowly around the country in recent years. The only reason someone can possible dislike the game is 1) you're a really pretentious bastard from the east or west coast 2) you really suck at the game. Anyone who has any kind of skill or coordination loves the game.....you also gotta master the horizontal spin on your throw

Man you guys must not play with the right people or somethin. How can you think it is boring? Yeah, it can be pretty boring to watch, but it's addicting once you start playing and can get very competetive.

Speaking of cornhole, I've been meaning to ask this... what is the way you play? I've always played if you go over 21, you go back to 15. But everyone I meet acts like I'm an idiot when I say that. I've played the other way, but going back to 15 is so much more fun and it makes it a lot harder.

Not to mention it's great for the kids as well. Your whole family can get out there and have some fun. I played for the first time last year and it turned into a drinking game. Great fun indeed !!!

WHODEY !!!

Cornhole is like Quarters around our place, it's definately a padded version of horseshoes combined with a drinking game. Oh, and anyone who doesn't like the game is OBVIOUSLY homophobic!

And yes, after a few games, people do begin to miss badly (hitting other players, chicks butts, the dog, whatever) drink more, and have a grand old time.

How bored would someone have to be to come up with this?

"Ok you guys, here's the deal. We're going to take a big piece of wood and drill holes in it. Then we're going to shuck some corn & put it in bags - one pound of corn per bag. Then we're going to throw it at the wood and try to make it into the holes."

I mean, what's next? A "Jump to Conclusions" mat?

No no no, you have it all wrong. Here's the real story.....

While sitting in the hospital with her immediate family, as the doctors work on her husband's badly damaged noggin, a woman said "This horseshoe thing just doesn't go well with beer and our men. I'm tired of getting frequent flyer miles here at the hospital. We have to find something better." Her sister in law looked at her and said "What about that tic tac toe thing the kids play with bean bags?" She thought to herself, yeah, lets get them playing that, but wait, they will say that's for children load their gun and shoot at the birds behind their cousins in the back yard instead. Her sister in law said, "So we make it their idea!" The women of the clan put it into their minds to convince their husbands to create a reduced injury laden backyard game, sold the jarts and the horseshoes at the flea market, and waited until the next summer.

During the meantime, the men listened to their wives talk about how cool it would be if someone could create a new game for family picnics that would be a FAMILY TRADITION. The men talked about it, the women, being women, guided their conversations, and thus, cornhole was born. And it still remains a family tradition. After all, most of the West Side where it is most popular in Cincinnati is related!

Yea, when we started playing in high school we did the same thing but it went back down to 13. Now every time I play people just don't give a f**k and just try to get anything over 21. In my opinion, getting exactly 21 is the best way--it requires more skill.
