linkmaster
Hey guys! Well we know the time is approaching to kick off as Teddy Covers (famous sports handicapper) has been releasing a series of bet on/bet against teams in his blog. I have been following this series, and the Bengals showed up as a "bet against". I want to argue with it, but he makes some good points (QB situation tops the list). Anyway you can see the whole series by going to his website here...To make things worse, he lists the Browns as a bet on team!!! What are your thoughts on all this? The_Next_Big_Thing
Pardon me? "Early indications are that Palmer will not be at 100% by the time the season starts"? Who's he been talking to? Everything I've heard says Carson WILL be 100%.LOL Then again this dufus handicaps so well that he's BRAGGING about being correct 2/3 times on AFL games. You know, the AFL without parity?! bengalboomer7
The only part that bother me is for all his other blog enrties he just has the team name. You see a blog on "The Miami Dolphins" and another on "The Philidelphia Eagles" yet when he gets to his Bengals blog he types "Bengals or Bungles" i sense just a twinge of hater in that. Stripes
I'd argue that the Bengals are a definite "bet for" team, simply because of the possible payout on their less than favorable odds.

How can some clown say 'bet against' when lines aren't even out?

Dadraftnick
I have to agree.Palmer IS the Bengals team if he is not 100% the team can have problems. Not only are NONE of the Bengals back up QB's good enough to start, ufa Eric Myer may be the only NFL caliber QB on the team. Anthony Wright is a joke and is one of the worst #2's in the league. The schedule is one of the hardest I can remember. The Bengals are likely to come down to earth on the turnover front.Worst of all is the sacks- The Bengals dont adress it in the draft. Justin Smith (the teams best)is not good enough to start for most teams as far a sacks go.When a team has a good QB and they know that no one is coming and they can sit back and pick you apart. That is what keeps the D from being in the top 10 in defense. No pass rush.Meantime we keep drafting LB's and WR'sThe Indy and first Pit game would have been very different if Manning Little Ben were on their butts a couple of times. One had the Bengals at 20/1 and the other at 12/1.Sure, that's the SB odds - but that's not something you could bet against in any event unless you bought the other 31 teams (at which point the vig eats you anyway). This guy's talking about the team to bet against week-to-week in the upcoming year, especially in the early part of the year before the lines adjust to the changes brought by parity this year. So, for this guy to have any point, he would have to know where the wiseguys are going to set odds for the Bengals, and also know that the odds are too much in the Bengals favor. So he needs two crystal balls, and I'm not buying it.Now, I will say this - time will tell that there *will be* "bet against" teams that Vegas keeps giving extra credit for a while based on past performance, and who do really badly against the spread (see Packers, 2005). But 1) it's hard to do better at identifying these teams than the Vegas guys, who get paid for the privelege, and 2) it takes seeing the line to actually, you know, figure out what Vegas is saying. Spor_tees
For this guy to come on this board and make that one of his very first posts, I'd have to agree with Shula and call it what ti is...SPAM! Kick this guy to the curb so we don't have to see crap like this all the time.
Scottishbengal
I've had a quick recce at bookies on the net and come up with the following odds:- Ladbrokes - no details available William Hill have the Bengals at 21/1 joint with Washington, Philly, Tampa, Jacksonville, & Kansas. Indy are faves at 8/1 Stan James - have Cincy at 18/1 they're the 9th faves with Indy top of the shop at 6/1 Coral - Cincy are 10th faves at 18/1, again Indy are the bookies choice at 13/2 UKbetting.com - Bengals 8th faves yet again at 18/1, Indy yet again to win it all at 6/1 Seems the bookies have us just off the pace, with a bit of luck and a following tailwind wind we may just make a good run at it. Hope so!
Tasher
ONE WORD: SPREADS!In season, Bengals will be favorites to win so betting against the Bengals "covering" the spread is what he is probably saying.that is my story and i'm sticking too it!
