Barry Bonds just 2 HR's away from tying the Babe @ 715

Recommended Posts

This story from Yahoo Sports.

He doesn't seem to be on a pace to catch the Home Run King Hank Aaron at 756 home runs.

At least not this year unless he's able to slam some more of his "Flaxseed Oil" and get away with it... <_<

:lmao:

Steroids can't improve your hand eye coordination, just maybe add a couple feet to the ball.

I can tell you this and let you decide for yourself. It took Babe Ruth 15 years to hit 715 and it took Hank Aaron 22 years to hit 755.

How long has barry been playing?

Do you honestly believe that the skinny speedster with some power that played in Pittsburgh could have hit this many HR's without some serious help beefing up?

Another tainted record in Baseball, it is allmost enough to make me lose all interest. If the Reds were not of to such a good start I would have allready written the season off, just like the NHL and NBA. This is hard to believe because I used to live for Reds baseball when I was a youngster.

The records of the steriod generation should all have *, call them the Preformance Enhanced Records!!!!

Who's to say there wasn't and isn't just as many pitchers on the same stuff?

His record is tainted and he knows it. I have lost so much respect for him over the past couple of years that I think he doesn't deserve any attention that is given to him. He is an arrogant, spineless, steroid powered louse that needs to quit his whining and admit he used 'roids to "pump-up" his records. I firmly believe he started using 'roids because he was jealous of Mark Maguire and Sammy Sosa getting so much media attention when they made their run at 61. That is how shallow I think he is. He wanted that kind of attention and he didn't care anything but himself. And of course, that hasn't changed because of his boring "Bond on 'roids" I mean "on Bonds" reality show. Talk about self-absorption.

I for one highly doubt that Babe Ruth would have hit anywhere near 700 home runs in the modern era. Still, he is the most hallowed player in the history of the game, and having a blatant cheater pass him up is upsetting.

Sure, he's not the only one. That is why the MLB will not cancel any records he may set. It's a shame though.

They were cheating back then too, TDB. Maybe a different kind of cheating, but isn't cheating, cheating?

Cheating is cheating indeed, and those that were cheating are cheating the fans and cheating the game. Any further cheating is cheating those who aren't cheating and weren't cheating, regardless of past cheating gone unpunished. Those cheating before can get away with their cheating, but those cheating now and being known well for their cheating should be stopped before their cheating further taints this ever cheated sport.

Whew. :P

So, that's how much wood a woodchuck can chuck :lmao:

Some call it cheating, I call it "looking for an edge" Now, Steroids are a little extreme, but MLB didn't test for them at all, so, there's a way to get an edge and circumvent the rules at the same time!

Just like using too much pine tar, a corked bat, or vaseline on the ball. Now, these may be less extreme than steroids, but they were still ways to "get an edge" on the competition.

MLB doing everything they can NOT to commerate Barry Bonds surpassing Babe Ruth... $5

Taking a crap for the first time in three months without Katrina like clean up... $10

Saying the word "cheating" 15 times, priceless.

The difference Boom, is that 'roids are chemically introduced, illegal by the law of the land, and in some, fatal if taken in extreme.

Pine tar, corked bat, vasoline; sure, by definition are cheating and as a result, you get ejected and/or suspended if need be. However, none are fatal and are cheating outside the parameters of putting 50 pounds of muscle on your body. And when there's speculation, like there is on Bonds now, that bat or baseball is taken from the player and examined. If it turns out ok, it goes back. If not, then appropriate punishment follows.

Hey, I see what your saying. In fact, I think there's a lot to the argument that there's NO scientific evidence that steroids helps you hit a baseball better and further. There's really no argument against that than presumptions and speculation.

But in the end, this is a moral argument. Baseball has one thing that's sacred and that's stats. If without stats, then baseball becomes something less revelent. And we all know how bad baseball's image is and stats are the last sacred thing in the sport. And now that's being attacked.

That's my whole point! Barry didn't need a f**king edge! He was never injury prone like Junior still is. He was clearly a hall of fame caliber player at that time, both with the bat or with the glove! Check out the stats as to his years before he was suspected of juicing (beginning in the mid to late 90's) and you tell me honestly if you think that's a player that needs an edge.

You know it wasn't. He got greedy. A different greedy that controlled Pete Rose, but it was greed none the less.

For all the talk about them, did you know there isn't any scientific findings that say steroids are bad for you. I've actually been reading about "sopposed responsible people" that have been using steroid's for years, but staying at lower doses and cycling on and off, and they can't find any thing wrong with these people. There in better shape, look better, and are living longer. There's just No scientific studey to suggest whether they can easily kill you or if they're good. of course, when you misuse anything it has negative effects.

After I'm done trying em I'll let you know how they turn out. Maybe i get buff, maybe I get a nutsac with peas in it.

This reminds me of when they told us as kids that smoking a joint was like smoking a whole pack of cigs at once. Who the hell do you believe anymore?

Now Barry is talking about being a DH only! From Yahoo:

It was recently that Bonds, an eight-time Gold Glover in left field, acknowledged his future could be in the American League no longer playing defense once his five-year, $90 million contract is up after this season.

He has always said retiring with the Giants would be his wish, though he knows there are no guarantees the Giants will make it happen -- even if owner Peter Magowan has said it would be strange to see Bonds break Hank Aaron's career home run record of 755 in another team's uniform.

"That would be up to them, not me," Bonds has said of coming back.

He's pretty sure he could play about 155 games if he didn't have to stand in left field for nine innings. Bonds has hit eight of his home runs as a designated hitter, batting .247 with 43 walks in 81 at-bats.

"Whew, just a DH? What? I could do that," he said. "Oh, yes."

And Alou has said Bonds could probably total 800 homers if he didn't have to play the outfield.

For now, the Giants hope they can build off their three wins in Houston -- where Bonds did plenty even without hitting the ball over the fence.

Bonds is 4-for-26 (.154) with nine walks and two RBIs since 713.

"He's going to get back to being a good hitter," Alou said. "And then the long ball will take care of itself."

I like that last comment from the Giants manager...""He's going to get back to being a good hitter," Alou said. "And then the long ball will take care of itself." Uhh...I don't think so Felipe. Not without the help of a steroid injection or two! You can already see how their effects are wearing off of him from his drop in home run production! No 'roids = no home run records! He deserves many other accolades, even a place in the HOF, but sorry...he doesn't deserve to be home run king above Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth! No way. No how.
