Kazkal
Now for levi and Steinbach,I'm glad chad got it though he deserved itCan't they resign the Oline after the 2006 season sense we'll have alot more cap space with all players leaving + 7million more in cap room? How much is cap hit in 2006? HairOnFire
Wow, is this team being built for the long haul or what? This is shaping up to be the best offseason ever.
Larry
wow, that rocks. I hope we just sign one more O-line, then we can tag the other and I hate to say it but probably goodbye to big willie
walzav29
Great move. Chad is the man. Now I hope he get's to work on blocking, rac, and no more tantrums and this guy will be the best in the NFL. Once again Saint Marvin proves why he is the greatest coach in the NFL. bwillycuse
I love it. This has been an awesome offseason. No more talk of a holdout. The players love this team and want to be on a winner. Those who want the payday can leave. Those who want rings can stay. We will keep our line in good shape. May lose one of them but wherever they go it wont be as good as here.Definitely - Who Dey!!! Who Dey Time
ML one step ahead as usual. Maybe we can get Levi locked up before camp. Steinbach will have to wait unless you want to give him Hutchinson $$. Willie might be a goner. Is it July 29 yet???WHO-DEY

I hope we just sign one more O-line, then we can tag the other and I hate to say it but probably goodbye to big willieI'd hate to see big willie go but were not gonna be able pay him what he deserves he's still a probowler with good 3-5 years left min in his tank I'd love to keep him but he'd have probbley keep same exact pay or take a cut from what he makes now....where when he hits market a team like the browns or texans will give him top dollar to sign his lovable chunky butt
bengalboomer7
Sorry, i forgot to cut and paste, but ESPN says the deal will pay him the same this coming year, so we still have some money, just don't forget to count the rookie pool like Hobson would. membengal
unbelieveable.seriously, the complaints about this organization and "thriftiness" should be at an all-time low. And, can we get a mea culpa from folks who predicted doom and gloom from CJ in terms of his contract and holding out etc.? UK Bengal
best news ever !! this puts paid to arrington coming here now just spend whats left on the OL and we will be dominant for yearswhodey!!
membengal
The quote from Rosenhaus from the Pasq piece is an all-timer:""In terms of 'new money,' and just being unique from the standpoint of being able to do something for a player who still had four years left on his [existing] contract, it's really monumental," said agent Drew Rosenhaus, who was hired by Johnson a year ago to upgrade his contract "As long as I've been doing this, I've never been able to get an extension like this, basically because of the time remaining on the contract. It's historical. And it's a testament to Chad, and how well he's performed, and to Bengals management for the way they have handled this and the commitment they've made to him." Dirk Funk
Oh boy.I think Troy and Katie Blackburn are onto something. They are signing these huge front loaded deals with Palmer, Chad, Rudi, etc. I hope this puts us in great shape come 2007.Can you tag more then 2 people a year? Transition Levi and Franchise Willie and sign E to a long term deal? If someone signs Levi to an offer they owe us a few picks.Oh boy.I hate Pittsburgh. ArmyBengal
How can this be looked at as anything less than INCREDIBLE ?? He still had time on his current contract and (get this) the Bengals SPEND MORE MONEY !!! We have been discussing this for a while in regards to people being "due" for a payday and this makes me happy as hell to think of the core of that offense being together for quite a while. The o-line situation will be tight, but if the rumor of no "new" money this year, we are no worse off to get at least one more o-lineman signed.Hey Rosenhaus, SUCK IT you b*tchass !!! Chad's the MAN !!! WHODEY !!!
HoosierCat
Can't complain. Chad certainly deserves to be paid. Now: o-line, please.
The_Next_Big_Thing
But but but he's gonna hold out and end up like TO! It's going to be terrible! Chad's going to be a cancer and it's going to tear our team apart....Who was saying that for months now?WHO FREAKING DEY! I knew Mike Brown, Marvin Lewis, and Chad Johnson could pull a Carson Palmer style extension without drama.
TecmoFever
Get Levi or Steiny locked up, and have a good draft, and we won't have anything to complain about around here.Poor Anthony Wright--the one day that he gets a little attention, the news of him signing here gets dwarfed by the news that we're keeping our beloved trouble-making, gold-toothed Pro Bowl receiver. mule99
I guess this signing will put the bulls**t story about Chad taking a swing at Marvin to rest forever. No way we give a guy 6 years and $35mil if he throws punches at his coach.Someone asked about tagging players. There are two tags (transition and franchise) but only one can be used at a time, so we can't tag both Levi and Steinbach.

HoosierCat
I bet in the short term this might even free up some money, depending on how the contract works out of course.I don't think it will give us anything this year. If my back-of-the-napkin calculations are right, tho, the deal only costs, at most, about $1.5 million more vs. the cap this year than Chad's previous charge. Maybe less, I'm not sure if they can pro-rate bonuses out through 2011 since it's a final option year. But either way the cap hit is minimal, at least this year. HairOnFire
You've got to love the way these things are starting to routinely appear out of the blue. Absolutely zero negotiating through the press, not even the slightest rumor being leaked, and then an announcement about a Bengal player becoming one of the highest paid players at his position. All very routine, all very matter-of-fact. I could get used to this.
