If you look at this past offseason and seen what players are getting paid it just isn't fair IMO.

Burleson $7mill a season, T.O. $9 mil a season...

He's only getting $3million a season no way he's happy with that through 2008, somebodies gotta give and IMO it aint gonna be Mikey's piggy bank.

IMO we need to get him his wants while we can decently afford the guy, s**t next year Wr's are going to be getting $10 million...then 11 and so on.

If we win the superbowl this year IMO chad deserves about a $5mill pay increase per season, we should be able to afford it then. That should be out offseason priority next year and that is it.

Chad Johnson is a Cincinnati Bengal, plain and simple, and the management will do whatever necessary to keep it that way, and Chad will comply. He's here to stay.

Sorry Chad, moan if you want but we have to extend the Oline first. YOU signed the contract.

:bengal:

So did carson and his was reworked before it went up before he even showed that he was a elite QB where chads showed hes a elite WR for 3 years

Let's wait til we come to this bridge before we decide to burn it, ok?

Chad has been nothing but pleasant and fun, frankly....you never hear him talking about his contract, you hear what he is going to do (or at least thinks he is going to do, hehe) on the field.

He may have the biggest slimeball on the planet for an agent, but none of the slime has come through.

He didn't call the entire city racist (Big Daddy)

He hasn't done cocaine before a big game (Stanley Wilson)

He didn't park his car on the I-75 bridge (Tremain Mack)

He didn't yowl about flipping burgers rather than playing (Corey Dillon)

With the exception of one locker room incident, he's been nothing but a joy here in Cincinnati thus far

Give the guy some credit.

Sheesh.

They re-worked Chad's contract, too. It doesn't really make a difference.

The best way to keep Chad happy, and in stripes, is to remind him how big he'll blow-up when we're playing in the Super Bowl. He might get the same numbers ---and a bigger salary--- playing in Philly or NY, but he won't have the same persona. He's better off as a big fish in a little pond. It's part of his charm.

I agree with 74. I am sure Chad knows full well what other financial obligations the team is facing, and expects to get his new contract quietly sometime during the season.

Don't forget, Chad got a BIG hidden raise last year thanks to the guys around him. He's not stupid folks. Resigning the line gets HIM more money because it lets Carson Palmer hit him for big plays, find new ways to celebrate within the rules, and continue to get marketing gigs.

Based on the title of this thread, I have a problem with it. I have a hard time thinking any complain that Chad has about his contract would be "bitching" because he deserves to be paid like the best in the league. He continues to try to get better, so the management better offer him an extension soon, or else it will come up and bite them in the ass.

He did sign the contract, so he would be obligated to play it out... but if we let him go to free agency without offering him what he's worth, I wouldn't blame him for going elsewhere.

Chad Johnson is the face of the Bengals, and because of that I believe mangement should do everything in its power to resign CJ to a high salary extension. Chad has incredible value off and on the field, the Bengals need to realize this, and pay him accordingly. If we decide to let Chad go, I can only imagine the reaction of the fans....

First of all,Chad is signed for several more years.

Secondly,in real dollars earned,he will make more money than many of those splashy back-loaded contracts that do nothing but make the players a salary cap cut in the last few years.

85 received between 10.75 and 12 million in bonuses, and the rest of his contract doesn't get so big as to make him a cap cut.

Yes, he would have started jumping up and down if he was truly pissed about how "little" he makes, but all in all he is still DUE a raise. The guy has only led the AFC in yardage for three years in a row, with pro bowl appearances, and has brought the team into the limelight. He takes the spotlight off of others and does it all in a fun, teasing kind of way, without being a T.O. ASSHAT !!! The guy is a great face to the team and walks what he talks. Anyone that thinks the guy is less deserving needs to go root for the Browns !!!

WHODEY !!!

Well... maybe he isn't threatening holding out (and in fact has said he wouldn't go about it that way when asked about the T.O. situation before the season started) but I do remember him saying that he expected the team to do the right thing and pay him the way his numbers indicate he should be getting paid.

It might not be the worst contract in the world... but he is still underpaid given what he produces, and considering what receivers like the aforementioned Burleson and Wayne are making.

Sure, this will continue to be an issue until he gets re-worked. I, for one, believe he deserves it. I also continue to be impressed by how well CJ has handled himself and how he has kept his predatory agent in check. My (completely uneducated) guess is that they brought him in and discussed his value and that he should be bumped, but that they need to get a few things worked-out first to keep the team where it needs to be. I have no knowledge, of course, about any of this other than the fact that I am shocked that there hasn't been any turbulence yet. IMO he must have received some form of assurance that he's going to be taken care of -- either before or during the season. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but I totally believe that CJ deserves to get stepped up based on the way he has performed since his first deal was re-done. He's just doing it the right way so far.

Well said. Huge props.

Kudos for Skyline and BengalbytheBay too.
