cover2 Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 If we don't take Pope in first are the guys left Marcedes lewis, Dominique Byrd, Anthony Fasano, or Joe Klopfenstein better than the tight end we lost in Schobel? Quote
schweinhart Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 Yup, so are David Thomas, Tony Scheffler, Charles Davis, Tim Day, Jeff King, TJ Williams, Owen Daniels and probably a few undrafted rookie free agents. Quote

ArmyBengal Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 If we don't take Pope in first are the guys left Marcedes lewis, Dominique Byrd, Anthony Fasano, or Joe Klopfenstein better than the tight end we lost in Schobel? I like them and will say they are at least no worse than Schobel was at times. Outside of Pope, because V. Davis will be gone, I like Lewis and Byrd the most, but the talent is still there in others on the board...WHODEY !!! Quote
TJJackson Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 I am big on Fasano, who I consider the best blocker of the group and the most "balanced" between the two roles Quote
BlainThePain Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 Outside of Davis and Pope, my favorite tightends are Klop and Fasano. Quote
Sox Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 I like Joe Klopfenstein. The PFW draft report on him is great.Football junkie, hard worker, plays through pain. Quote
TJJackson Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 If you want a receiving tight end, you want Klopfenstein. If you want a blocking Tight end who can also receive, you want Fasano. Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 If you want a receiving tight end, you want Klopfenstein. If you want a blocking Tight end who can also receive, you want Fasano. If you want a guy who can do both, but doesn't have the hype of Fasano or Klopfenstein, you want David Thomas. Quote
TJJackson Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 David Thomas is not a good blocker either, actually...he's another receiving tight endhttp://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingr...avidthomas.htmlFasano is a true 3 down TE, equally good as a blocker as he is as a receiver. Quote
schweinhart Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 Fasano would definitely be more of an all-downs TE than Thomas. But Thomas has got the gumption to get good enough at in-line blocking -- especially vs. 3-4 teams where he'd be blocking an OLB or helping to double a lineman. Thomas's strength in the Bengals system would be offset in the backfield, H-Back like, where he's got better quickness to deal with blitzes and also may be the most effective TE in this draft for leaking into short area for catches with his back to the defense and YAC. Plus, put him in motion and he's a mismatch for a LB and some safeties. Quote
skyline Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 PLEASE don't take a TE in round 1.Any other round, I'll be happy to see one join the team. Quote
TJJackson Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 Fasano would definitely be more of an all-downs TE than Thomas. That's pretty much were I am coming from -- I believe that's exactly what we need, not a TE who is pretty much a blocker (like Kelly) or receiver (like Schobel was supposed to be) and not both. Quote
Kazkal Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 might as well keep tony stewert if gonna draft Fasano Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 Whichever of those guys that drops to the second day is who'll I'll be happy with.I don't want a TE at all on the first day. Quote
Kazkal Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 so you want someone worst then schobel? Quote
ArmyBengal Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 I don't think it a matter of wanting someone worse than Schobel, but there is talent at least equal to his that will be there in the 4th...WHODEY !!! Quote
BlainThePain Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 After signing Sam Adams and Dexter Jackson, I feel that tight end is the biggest IMMEDIATE need on the team. I actually wouldn't be upset if we took two in this draft. A good first day prospect and a 2nd day sleeper. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 Put me in the camp that if we were to take TWO tight ends in this draft, I would put my own militia together and invade the Bengals war room killing everyone in sight !!!**Note to FBI or gay Steelers fans, that was an attempt at humor... I'm not repsonsible for your ignorance, nor do I take responsibility for your misconceptions !!!WHODEY !!! Quote
TJJackson Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 These are the late round TEs I like - both good blockershttp://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingr...perwallace.htmlhttp://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingr...e/jeffking.htmlHowever, I still feel this is a big enough need to warrant a day 1 pick. Stripes Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 I would love to end up with Pope in round one. Do I think we have bigger needs on defense? Certainly, but it's a question of who's available. I'd be more than happy if we landed Pope at TE, or a DE or CB in the first. Of the 2nd and 3rd round prospects, Fasano is my favorite, but Klop is close behind. I'm with Schweinhart though, there are a ton of TE options in this draft that would probably end up being upgrades over Schobel. Quote

While a 6th round TE might end up an upgrade over Schobel, is that saying much? I think a first or second rounder would be more than just an upgrade, and I think would make a noticeable impact on offense moreso than a late rounder. Quote
cover2 Posted April 10, 2006 Author Report Posted April 10, 2006 I am for Pope in Rd. one. I think he would make our offense so much better and give Carson a helping hand. I think even when Carson comes back everybody will worry. Its something you don't forget. We will truly be unstoppable. Draft defense 2nd through 7. I just see Pope as a difference maker that will make Carsons job easier IMO. I see a guy that could get us 400-500yds. right out of the box and a great fit. Quote
