gobengals19
One member [probably the easiest] of the Bengals OL has been extended. Per Bengals.com, the deal is believed to be for 3 years.Williams extendedI am not a huge Williams fan specifically on pass blocking but if he is the weakest piece of the OL, we could do alot worse.Next up - Levi. Stripes
Good to hear. That got worked out pretty quickly. Let's hope talks with the rest of the line are equally successful.
derekshank
Hell yeah baby. We got a decent OG. We've got plenty of depth... so that should give us a bargaining chip when we're negotiating with Steinbach. That should really help keep us from needing to overpay for him. Also a top notch character, good lockerrom presence.Rockin! Now start talking to Steinbach and/or Levi, please

Bobbie is a devastating run blocker and improved last year on his pass-blocking. When he got here, he looked like a turnstile to me on pass blocking.Who does everyone think should be signed next? I go for Levi, he is a more important cog than Steinbach in my mind. Unfortunately I expect the Bengals to go the normal slow/"cost-effective" route and pay the guy that comes in with a lower tag number. It would be impressive to see them extend one more OL before the draft, that would allow us to do anything in the first 3 rounds.

I imagine talks with Steinbach will get underway first, but the Bengals will get to work on both. Willie might end up being last if we have to haggle with him and have him accept another lower quantity contract.
princeton
I figure that they sign Jones or Steinbach, but not both. If it's Steinbach, then he'll move to LT once Jones leavesnot desiring to pay two left tackles, the Bengals prefer to pay out guard money
ArmyBengal
GREAT GREAT GREAT !!!!One down and to many to go... This is a nice start and you have to love how easy that went. Who signs next is not as important in my mind as "when" they sign the next one. I just want to keep the line as much as intact as possible !!! This will be the third year our o-line has been together. Last year, only us and San Diego were the only two teams to bring back their starting o-line. Continuity is HUGE !!!WHODEY !!! Spor_tees
Steinbach will be next because with the new CBA, when you tag an O-lineman, the Gurds, and Tackles are lumped together. So if they tagged Steinbach instead of Levi, they would have to pay him the average of the top 5 Tackles and Guards combined, which turns out to be pretty much Left Tackle money anyways. So if they are going to have to do that, they are going to do it with Levi, who is a left Tackle, instead of Steinbach, who is a guard. AMC
Should be interesting to see how the Steiny and Levi talks proceed. Maybe they sign up Steiny and tag Levi. But the whole Hutchinson thing may be a problem, especially if they want to tag Steinbach. That is, the average salary you'd have to give him when tagged went up with that Hutch deal. BUT, it's probably still cheaper than if they tag Levi at the LT average salary.I think they should focus on Levi so they do not have to tag him, and then possibly tag Steinbach, if necessary????? HoosierCat
Per Hobson, the extension is believed to average $3.5 million a year (so it'd be about $10.5 million total) with $4-5 million of that guaranteed.

If it's Steinbach, then he'll move to LT once Jones leavesnot desiring to pay two left tackles, the Bengals prefer to pay out guard moneySounds good and all but stienbach will say he was paid to play G, not LT if you want me at LT pay me, is what i would say.IMO Letting LEVI go would be about as dumb as letting either CJ or Palmer go.LT is the 2nd most important position in football, besides QB.We have one of the top 4 LT's in the NFL and no1 cares if goes? that's crazy talk.Paying a G or LT about 6-7 million a year really aint that much since the cap room in 2008 will be about 130+ million. He'll be about 5x better looking also when Ogden and Roaf retire/diminish if they haven't already.Levi is a probowler for the next 5-6 years garunteed. HairOnFire
I've said for months that since the Bengals had made the O-Line their biggest FA priority they had to get at least one extension done prior to the draft, and they did it. Nice. Now let's see how much progress they can make with Steinbach and Jones. Getting a 2nd extension getting done prior to the draft would really ease alot of concerns, and would lessen the push to draft a blocker this year. BTW, Williams is the lowest profile of the group but his signing is important because he plays on the right side with Willie Anderson, a player who I think will be last on the shopping list due to their repeated inability to get an extension done with Highway71. The Williams deal means no matter what transpires with Anderson they won't have to replace an entire half of their blocking front.
Dirk Funk
Last summer I sat at a Sushi Bar next to Boobie in Madeira. You know those decorative boats they fill up with sushi rolls, shasimi, etc.? Dude had like 4 boats full, no joke. I patted his back and said Who-Dey on the way out, felt like putting my hand in a bucket of blubber.Happy to see he will be around for a while. I would hope they would look at one of them as a Guard in the future. Maybe that is what they will be looking at this year in minicamps and preseason. I cant see them keeping 3 pure Centers on the roster. With some depth at the G position, I could see them letting Steinbach walk in they get Jones signed. Be interesting to see if Andrews or Keift show any promise this year.
The_Next_Big_Thing
Don't forget, not only can Eric step out to tackle, he can step in to center as well. He is hugely valuable.I like the Bobby signing. It took him a season to gel with the rest of the line, but he rocked it last year. Keep on extending! ArmyBengal
If I HAD to say which I wanted done first, I'm thinking Steinbach as well... He's a huge asset to the team in his versatility to play other positions along the line and will continue to be pro bowl level talent for more than a handful more years for sure !!! Gotta protect the investment made in Carson and Steiny is a good way to get it going. Then move on to Levi from there. BTW, I don't want any of them to go !!!WHODEY !!! bengalboomer7
Very nice to see this done before the draft. I'm with you HOF, I'll be very happy if they can get another in beofre the draft. I still see with our depth, at least one and possibly two guys not coming back, but i hope it's only one. However, the O line doesn't worry me as much with the amount of young guys we have waiting. Kazkal
Levi won't be going anywhere he'll be hit with the tag every year till he resigns a long term deal which imo won't be too bad on us sense he'd be payed as top 5 linemen which is what he should be getting anyways....I also hope we can get big willie back sense I doubt well tag him if levi and stein get done sense probbley be too big of a hit on the cap

He could be the backup at both the Center position and the Guard position... but if he's as good as he was thought to be, a permanent back-up position is not something he's going to be happy about. He said he chose Cincinnati because he felt that this was his best chance to start. I wonder if they are considering letting Steinbach go? I hope not... but I suppose having several good guards to choose from is a good problem to have.Also... I think Kieft/Andrews might spell the end for Willie Anderson rather than Levi. I've heard Anderson wants big time LT money... but he's not going to get it from the Bengals, because he's a RT. He might be able to get that kind of money from a team with a left-handed QB... and despite how much I like Anderson... if I had to choose between him and Levi... I'm letting Anderson go. I'd feel much better about Kieft or Andrews at RT than LT.
