Section 310 Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 All three players are the same age (within a few months)Player 1- 6'4", 335 lbs. Played 16 games in 2005.20 tackles, 6 assists, 3 sacks.Player 2- 6'4" 335. Played in 14 games in 2005.15 tackles, 4 assists, 3 sacks.Player 3- 6'2" 345. Played in 16 games in 2005.38 tackles, 16 assists, 1 sack. For my money you can expect the most production out of player number 3 (Grady Jackson). If the money is the same, he wouldlook to be your man. However, between player 1 (Dan Wilkinson) and Player 2 (Sam Adams) there doesn't appear to be much of a difference. Plus, Wilkinson would be much less expensive than Adams. Why isn't he being consideredas an option? Quote
ArmyBengal Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Isn't Big Daddy going to retire ??WHODEY !!! Quote
TJJackson Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Is Dan Wilkinson a FA?I'd certainly hope he would be considered if he is a FA, but I don't know that he is. I don't recall seeing his name on any FA lists I have pored over. Quote

I don't recall seeing his name on any FA lists I have pored over. After you posted that I checked the Lions website. It does not list him as an UFA. I remembered that he had talked about a possible return to Cincy before the Lions game this year....is he a candidate for a June 1 cut?? Quote
turningpoint Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 I thought the lions resigned him. Quote
HoosierCat Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Last I saw Wilkinson was still mulling whether or not he was calling it quits. Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 I'd rather have Big Duddy than Beerbelly any day. At least we know he was a spud... Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Beerbelly is better than that peice of crap duddy you like. Besides he is fat, how could you possibly like him?? Quote

Stripes Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 IMO, you can't look at a DT's stats and tell how effective he is. Agreed, and that's why I wasn't ever really on the Ryan Pickett bandwagon. The effect a DT has on a game is much more obscure than can be shown just in a number of total tackles or sacks. Quote

Bengalbob Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 Last I saw Wilkinson was still mulling whether or not he was calling it quits.Looks like Big Daddy is undecided . . . and I'm guessing that if he comes back then he's the Lion's property.http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic...311/1004/SPORTS Quote
andybren Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 Is anybody else concerned that we're debating the virtues of a player who is considering retirement and 2 others who are the same age? Is this really any way to take a team to the Super Bowl? Quote

The_Next_Big_Thing Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 It's better to try something than to do nothing.Who says we are doing nothing? Who says Askew hasn't been inactive in a secret super Defensive Tackle school in Cuba? Who says we aren't planning to get a good DT in round one, two, or seven? Who says we aren't looking at options and evaluating talent? Quote
walshfan Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 I wish everyone would stop bringing up stats on DT's unless his job is a penetrator.... They clog the line... thats their job Quote

walshfan Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 I agree and pressure is not an official stat.... Maybe it should be Quote
derekshank Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 I wonder if there is any chance we might trade down in the draft in order to get a DT from another team... kind of the way we got Deltha Oneil?I suppose the only way that could happen is if there was a decent DT out there who had somehow worn out his welcome on his current team, so it's pretty unlikely... but I guess there is always a chance to get someone that is not in the current discussion - either through a trade, or a cut at a later date.
