HoosierCat
I could see Sims. Marvin looooooves LBs, we know that, and Ernie has the potential to replace Simmons on the weak side, tho his size is a question mark.
schweinhart
Size is the prob I also have with Sims at weakside. I think he'll be highly suspectible to getting walled and washed out. I think Ernie is nonetheless going to see his draft stock stay within the Top 20 as a MLB of the Jonathan Vilma type where he'll be able to angle and knife more, plus use his speed to track TEs down the seam.BTW, I'd much rather have Cromartie or Wimbley at 24. I'm starting to wonder whether Wimbley isn't athletic enough to actually play WSLB in a 4-3. Regardless, he's got the type of potential in a number of uses to probably keep him from falling past 20. Sox
I like Wimbley as well,at least from what I have read.PFW states he could easily carry 275 with his frame.
HairOnFire
There's no way I'd switch Wimbley to LB. Granted, he's currently an undersized DE, but he's got solid DE skills and the frame needed to add weight if desired.

Whur CHad At?
I'd take Sims over Carpenter
Stripes
I'd take Sims over Carpenter In most cases I would agree, but I'm not sure Marvin would... If there really has been any legitimate interest in LaVar Arrington, Carpenter would look good in his spot should we not land him given their similar strengths. Sox
All righty then. There were several players I preferred, but all were gone.Ngata and Bunkley at DT,Williams and Hill at CB,Whitner at safety,Hali at DE,and Pope and davis at TE.I like Yobouty, but not at 24.I decided to go Marvin Lewis and select the BPA.Sims goes in the top 15 in most mocks. He is a monster against the run,and projects to be a WS LB in the NFL.Since Simmons is starting to slow down,I figured this was a good fit.It also gives the Bengals great depth at LB. Sims may have to switch to safety cause of his size.I think even our resident FSU homer, Rover could agree with this.Honestly, I think Carpenter will have just as good a career as AJ, just not the hype. And AJ hawk will make Brian Urlacher (overrated as hell, BTW) look like Brian Boitano

Yes, Carpenter can rush the passer. No, he can NOT cover tight ends and running backs.Simg is the best coverage linebacker in the entire draft. Period. He also, as you said, has the ability against the run to be good in the league. He will be just as good as a biltser in the NFL as Carpenter will, because strength isn't gonna get it done for Carpenter while blitzing at the next level. He's going to have to out quick people. I don't think that Carpenter can. I KNOW that Sims can. Boomer, I guarentee Sims won't have to switch to safety in the NFL, and I will also guarentee that Sims will be a much better NFL linebacker Carpenter. I see Carpenter as a good, not great, 3-4 linebacker at the next level. In a nutshell, I see Sims as the next Derrick Brooks. I think that in the next 5 years, he will dominate the game just as Brooks has. And, despite what you may think, I have seen both of them play about the same amount of time. I watched Carpenter play about every weekend, since I had to suffer through hours of Ohio State programming. Sims is the better player.
