Sounds like Adams may actually sign here today. Freaky eh?

Really? Care to cite your source? I haven't heard anything...

I've remained pretty neutral on this whole idea. I don't think he's our answer at DT... but on the other hand... if S. Smith's biggest problem is endurance, Adams would certainly be a guy who could fill in to keep Smith's legs fresh. It's a short term answer... but if it's cheap, I guess I'm okay with it (assuming of course we are proactive in looking for a long term solution, like taking another 3rd or 4th round sleeper like we did with Askew).

Hobson has a couple lines in his latest as well. But all the chatter is coming from Adams' agent. Whether the Bengals have any interest remains to be seen.

True, but more than even the Enquirier, my gut is telling me we are going to sign Adams just to prevent my dream of Pickett in stripes from coming true.

Of course that didn't stop me from emailing Nancy to tell her to put a bug in Mike's ear about signing Pickett.

:unsure:The Dolphins must not want Adams that bad if they are allowing him to wait like that along with his buddy Jackson

It doesn't take a Sherlock Holmes I think to see that the team is making the transition to a 3-4 and has slowly been doing so since before last year (this takes time and the necessary pieces)

Hint 1: The team continues to bring in LB's in FA realizing they will need at least 6 to pull off the 3-4

2. They drafted a DE/OLB tweener in Pollack

3. The team cut Clemons who was a traditional DE

4. The team is interested in Sam Adams (who could play NT)

5. The team also seems to be looking for a role for Fanene (a DE who is 290 lbs = the kind needed for a 3-4)

6. The team tried using Geathers inside and likes that he is gaining weight (he is also at 280 lbs = the size needed for a DE in a 3-4)

= I think the 3-4 is the way the Defense should go ....

* Justin Smith could play OLB and rush off the edge as could Pollack and Landon

* The DE's would be Fanene,Geathers,Robinson, and JT (if not cut)

* and then you rotate Sam Adams and Shaun Smith at NT (and draft a Gabe Watson type to groom to replace Sam)

* Also you could have Simmons and Odell in middle

I dont thing bringing linebackers is an indication of the team going to a 3-4 ..More about depth...

Right now the team has Simmons, Odell, Landon, Pollack, Miller and Navies...

Wilkens agent is talking about more money and Webster is gone now..

Signing another LB seems like a move for depth...

ML has repeatedly said that he plays a 4-3. I believe him. Why would you try to hide that in the offseason? Unless you are trying to hide your draft intentions. Hmmm... I wonder if ML likes to be secretive about the draft? ^_^

He likes to be secretive about everything. Just look at the half-time incident. He didn't want anybody catching wind of it, period. I am sure he handles a lot of his other business in a similar fashion. I don't think we're headed to a 3-4 though.

Id go for Sam because he has shown more interest in us. And if a player wants to play for a certain team then he will be happy, and by being happy he will pay harder :sure:

It's funny, cause the way Sam's agent talks, it just about a forgone conclusion he's a Bengal. And you can't tell from Hoson or Cincy, cause there just so damn tightlipped about it all.

I'm not sure what to think.

On the Sam Adams front, I think it's quite clear that no one has been particularly interested in him. He had just one visit, with Miami about a week ago, and has since been waiting around for the phone to ring. I'm sure his agent has called around and found a few teams (including the Bengals) who have expressed a mild interest in signing him to a vet minimum deal at some point...later...maybe...depends on how things go.

With FA DTs now pretty much picked over, one of those clubs might be moved to throw a little more cash in the till. And that's what all the chatter from his camp is trying to create: an impression that he's on the verge...gonna sign any day now...just watch me...phone's ringing off the hook...so if you want me, cowboy up.

No one appears to be buying it, tho.

I'm certainly not buying it. The agent is claiming that the only reason we haven't worked out a deal by now is that we are too busy looking for our QB. Well, per da site...

They (Cincy) visited with Seahawks linebacker Kevin Bentley and set up a visit Friday with Chatman. Along with closing in on a deal for Bauman, the Bengals re-signed their leading special teams tackler from last season in safety Anthony Mitchell.

I don't want to draw attention to the obvious... but none of this news has anything to do with a QB. Therefore, if the Bengals were serious about getting Adams, I'm sure he could have been worked it into the day's agenda amidst the big name talents of Bentley, Chatman, Bauman, and Mitchell. It seems to me that Adams is much ado about nothing... and his agent is in panic mode.

While they may be interested in Adams....he's not going anywhere yet.

I think they are tied up in low-balling Martin, waiting for Brooks to be released...in the meantime, they can sign Mitchell without alot of wining and dining...and entertain bentley and Chatman..

I'm not sure a standard airline seat, coach or first-class, can handle Adams's AZZ..the man is huge, that's why he's not up here...

Sounds likely enough. I think they just don't have -- and have not had from the start -- any intention of doing much in FA. In other words, business pretty much as usual. There was a comment from Bobbie Williams a couple days ago (I think it was buried in a Hobson story) that the team had approached his agent about doing an extension, and there have also been a rumor or two that they are working on extending Steinbach as well. But there's no particular need to get those deals done immediately; they have until December. That's where the cap space will go.

They will run some set out of the 3-4 and disguise just like they did last year, but will not go to a base 3-4 unless there is a NT or two brought in via the draft or FA. Who cares how many LB's you bring in. Who's going to play NT ?? Please don't say anyone who's currently on the roster or I will just pretend you didn't respond... :D
