BengalszoneBilly
From the talk I'm hearing out here in Arizona, they aren't done spending. Not by a long shot. Their signing of James did nothing but help them in terms of other free agents now looking at them as a serious contender for their services. To be taken seriously, you gotta make a solid blockbuster deal sooner or later Mike and Marvin. No offense to your Cardinals, but I am not sure they're exactly a model franchise in regards to fiscal management... or anything really. Even with todays signing of Dexter by the Bengals, (who is a Cardinals castoff!) it's not even close to the impact made by the Cardinals, and their signing of James. Not by a long shot. The Bengals still need to make alot more noise to get noticed. IMO big names do not take Cincinnati seriously.By the way, the Cardinals past is just that...the past. I'd have thought Bengal fans would realize that quicker than most.
HoosierCat
February 28, 2007 (AP) Phoenix -- One day before the start of the NFL free agent period, NFL commissioner Condoleezza Rice, in her first official act, notified the league that all potential free agents had been signed by the Arizona Cardinals."This is an unprecendented event, but Arizona's unprecedented $70 million in cap space dictated that unusual steps be taken," Rice said. The decision came after widespread media reports indicated that there was simply no other destination of interest to NFL players."You're kidding, right?" said uber-agent Drew Rosenhaus, when asked if the Cardinals were on the top of every free agent's list. "They ARE every free agent's list."The Cardinals have invested in a sophisticated computer system that will allow them to sign every free agent quickly and keep the team under the cap at the same time. Of course the team will be required to trim its roster by the end of summer, at which time teams such as the Washington Redskins are expected to become active."No big deal," said Redskins owner Dan Snyder. "Who do you think floated Bidwill the dough to actually sign all these guys? Yeah, that's right. And a clause in the loan agreement gives me ownership of the Cards if they do better than 8-8. It's worth a down year: I get another NFL franchise for just 70 million bucks!"That deal has generated controversy within the executive ranks of NFL ownership, but Snyder has secured permission for the dual ownership by agreeing that Rice's former boss, President George W. Bush, will be named president of the Cardinals after the 2008 elections. Vice President Dick Cheney will lead a search for an appropriate general manager.Despite the huge amounts of money the Cardinals will be able to bring to bear, the Cincinnati Bengals are the prohibitive favorite to win the Super Bowl this season. NFL observers were mystified last March when the team suddenly reversed course and offered backup QB and free agent Jon Kitna a $100 million contract and the starting job to stay in Cincinnati. However, the reasons became clear when Kitna used his special relationship with the Almighty to recruit Jesus and the 11 Apostles (Judas was not offered a contract) to serve on the Bengals' defense. Simulations on the new Madden 2007 game indicate that this defense will allow a record 0 points in the upcoming season.

I don't think the Bengals necessarily need to land a blockbuster deal, but the Cards will be better for it.
bengalindian
The Bengals need one more good signing. The Dexter signing was good. Sam Adams would also be a good signing, so that they could have big Sam and a rookie in there. Veteran leadership is what this team needs, and one or two signings would help. I too am sick of these Ohaletes and Bryan Robinson, and the Bengals need to get there name out to the players.
The_Next_Big_Thing
I'd much rather see Mike and Marvin continue to build via the draft than slug it out in free agency for has beens with big names.
