Not really sure how I feel. Why didn't we wait a bit longer? Hopefully we didn't give this guy a bunch of g-money.

Looks like his contract is minimal:

Jackson agreed to a four-year, $7.6 million deal, according to ESPN.com's John Clayton, and will be the team's starting free safety.

I'm definitely taking a wait-and-see attitude here. Seems like one that could go either way...

Well, first thing to hope for is that he can just get on the field. Injuries (back, hamstring) have limited Jackson to 17 games (12 starts) in the last two seasons.

That's more than our starting safeties isn't it?

Uhhh...no.

Nate Herring 2 years, 12 games.

Madieu Williams 2 years, 20 games.

Ok, so Combined they have more starts than Jackson in the last two years. However, on AVERAGE, which is what I was refering to, they have fewer games in the last two seasons than Jackson. So, what's with the uhhhh... no? It's TRUE.

Uhhh...no. On average Madieu alone has more games and starts (10 and 8 per year) than Jackson (8.5 and 6).

Marvin want's a guy that can tackle and cover. Ohalete could not do either. This was the best safety available in my opinion and a great signing. Marvin has a plan, and he'll see it through.

The ONLY problem I have with Jackson is that he is too much like Herring, injury city.

Funny, I was thinking we already had this guy on the team after seeing he's had injuriy issues for the past two season.

Oh well, here's to "hoping" he has a productive stint here with the Bengals.

HOPE SUCKS !!!

its the interchangable saftey which marvin likes, Jackson fits that mold coming from the tampa cover 2. this way the first round can now be a de, dt, te, or cb

Has anyone signed Hope yet?

Anyone closing in on Ryan?

Have heard nothing about Hope going anywhere yet, but the only two I've seen interested in our boy Pickett is Buffalo and Green Bay. KFFL.com said there could be a deal in place today from Green Bay.

pretty much why he was #1 on my list of wanted safeties, especially after realizing how crappy archuleta is verse the pass and how much he would commend in FA.

I wouldn't rule out safety in the first because of Jackson. With both Ohalete and Mitchell out it was a good bet they'd sign someone, but Jackson's another stopgap at best, and we still have a spot available.

Jacksons $7.6 mill deal seems to be about 3-5 mill per year with most of out front loaded.

GET ADAMS NOW!

Ok, I'm about to ask a stupid question so prepare yourself...

If Jackson signed a 4 year, 7.6 mil deal... How is it 3-5 mil per year ?? Was it in the signing bonus, because I didn't see anything about a bonus yet. Did I miss it ??

Jackson signs four-year deal with Bengals

By Len Pasquarelli ESPN.com

The Cincinnati Bengals on Monday afternoon addressed one of their biggest needs, reaching agreement with unrestricted free agent safety Dexter Jackson on a four-year contract.

Jackson agreed to a four-year, $7.6 million deal, according to ESPN.com's John Clayton, and will be the team's starting free safety.

Jackson was the most valuable player in Super Bowl XXXVII, when he was playing in the first of two stints with the Tampa Bay Bucs. The seven-year veteran should bring leadership and instincts to the interior of the Cincinnati secondary.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, saddled with poor play at safety in 2005, is also hoping to add a physical dimension, which Jackson should enhance.

Even if Jackson simply makes the routine plays at safety, particularly against the run, he is an upgrade for the Bengals over last season. Cincinnati lost both starters from its 2004 lineup, Madieu Williams and Kim Herring, to injuries and their absences dramatically affected the secondary unit.

The Bengals met over the weekend with free agent safety Lawyer Milloy, released by Buffalo last week, but it is believed the veteran left town without a contract offer.

Jackson, 28, began his career with the Bucs as a fourth-round choice in the 1999 draft. He played four seasons in Tampa Bay before taking advantage of his Super Bowl most valuable player award to sign with Arizona in 2003. But the Cardinals released Jackson after just one season and he returned to the Bucs late in the 2004 campaign.

The former Florida State standout has 329 career tackles, 14 interceptions, 18 passes defensed and 3½ sacks. He started in 10 games in 2005 and had 54 tackles, one interception and one sack. Jackson's best season was in 2003, when he posted 105 tackles and six interceptions.

He culminated that season with a Super Bowl performance where he had two interceptions.

Dexter Jackson = *yawn* as usual

Waste of money for a 7 year guy who can't play a full season the last two years.

He's' not a bad safety at all when healthy, but his best years were in 02-03.

Everyone welcome the new whipping boy du jour.

so when he has a healthy 06 campaign and has 80+ tackels and 3 ints 1 sack, will he still be a waste of money?

you know cause that whopping 1.9million a year contract he signed sure does break the whole NFL bank nowadays.

We will take a TE in the 1st round.

Does kinda seem that way with only defensive FA's + QB's being looked @ :P TE so i'd say 1st or 2nd....oh why did vernon have run a 4.38 :P he should have ran it after he was drafted by us lol

Well, at the very least he's a damn sight better than Ohalete and Herring, so they will be better just based on that.

I guess I can't complain, it's an early signing, and that is a little different M.O. for the Bengals.

I'm pumped with Jackson. I remember reading somewhere that Marvin's been fascinated with him since he came out in the draft.

The Jungle will become Dexter's Laboratory

Doubt it..he isn't that good.

and your moronic ass thinks tank williams and Malloy are our answer at safety, seriously go find your brain, because you've obviously lost it.

last i checked we don't have the redskins on the scheduale, so who gives a flying f**k if Jackson was beat by randle el for a TD. Also last I checked Ward or El could of just walked into the endzone for their Td's vs our safeties.
