combatbengal
I just watched the NFL channel and they had a show on how the Bengals DB's prepare for the upcoming game. It went from Monday through game day. They worked on tip drills, takeaways, watched film, lifted weights, and put a game plan together. One thing that killed us last year was tackling. I didn't see them work on that at all. It looks like the team puts a great deal of hours in preparing for the upcoming game.

Spor_tees
If a player doesn't know the fundamentals of tackling by reaching the NFL, there are a lot more people failing him than just the Defensive Coordinator and the secondaries coach. ArmyBengal
When Ohisuckalote hears the word tackle, he starts thinking about fishing. No wonder we had such problems last year !!!WHODEY !!!
BengalPappaw
Based on the times I've seen, I'd take Jason Allen. He has the expereince and playmaking ability. GREAT times in the 40 and quickness drills. He, also, has played Safety for Tennessee.

There isn't time for it in a week. This is a fundamental skill like walking that you should know how to do when you are in the NFL.

GREAT times in the 40 and quickness drills. He, also, has played Safety for Tennessee. The Bengals' are in the market for a SS not a FS though, and Allen's injury history may knock him out of the 1st (who knows). But I think the Bengals' have enough injury problems at the safety position to look elsewhere, they've already got one Madeiu, they are looking for a true SS who's a hitter/tackler and run supporter who can also make plays at the LOS consistently.Allen's got great ability/potential as a CB or FS - but think his injuries are the black eye on him with a lot of teams. kingwilly
If Allen's hip is a big concern, may I suggest you take a look at Bullocks from nebraska...he's another stud.Key for the bengals is finding the guy who has the right blend for the position. Can't be a guy like Beckett. He hit well but was lost in zone coverages...Can't be a guy like Ohalete, who couldn't tackle my grandma. I have no problem with us targeting a big corner or a tough FS to rotate around into the SS spot either.
NJ29
Take a long look at Antonio Cromartie...
kingwilly
I've suggested before that we look at Cromartie as a S. If he has lost a step form his knee issue, he still has good size, range and is a sure tackler.Another couple guys I like is Maxey and Hunter...I'd rather not draft a player then change their position but sometimes it ends up that way....versatility is key. Dan2330
Bengals would not using tackling drills, instead they would show the video: 'Neon-Deion Sanders On Tackling'They could not run that part on NFL Network due to contractoral bs rights with Deion... He's a top ten guy who will slide due to missing the college season.
kingwilly
He ran a 4.49 then a 4.41....I agree that he is a Top 10 type guy...knocks are he was injured and did not play much injury not-withstanding...My point is that he could be there at 24...and if so, he could address several positions in the DB if he shows the versatility...much like Madieu. I believe they want a SAFETY who can run, tackle, play the pass -- regardless, whether WE call him a FS or SS. I agree with you about the concern regarding Jason Allen's hip injury. My interest in Jason Allen is predicated on him passing the "Healed injury" check. While I am concerned about the hip injury, I am more concern about what appears to be a trend to get injuried during his career at Tennessee.I believe Allen will be worth a gamble -- but I'm not sure WHEN in the draft process. schweinhart
Right before Jason Allen ran his sub-4.4 40, the NFL network flashed right to Marvin up in a booth taking in the scene. The fact Allen ran as well as he did speaks volumes about his recovery some 6 months removed from his hip injury, which itself has been written about as being not as severe as Bo Jackson's even though it was the same type. However, Allen did not go in the positional drills and that would've further dispelled whatever doubts may exist about his full return because his backpedal and hip transfers would have been in full view. But all the talk about FS..SS..CB points me to one player -- Donte Whitner. Behind Mike Huff, I believe he best defines DB versatility in this draft, plus he'd be a gunner.

I still think we should go with Ko simpson and if we are going to take a gamble on a injury then we should go with Antonio Cromartie!!!!!!! TJJackson
I think with Jason Allen, because of his history of injuries, you have to wait til round 2 to take him. I realize he'll probably go before our pick in r2, but nonetheless you have to wait. Otherwise you pay a very big signing bonus to a guy who may well sit on IR for most of his career. ArmyBengal
Agree, Allen any earlier than the 2nd will piss me off. I know there is "chance" and "risk" in all picks, but the less chance and risk we take, the happier I'll be considering what we are trying to do with the development of our defense. WHODEY !!! TJJackson
Agreed....as a playoff team, we need guys who are healthy and can stay healthy and ergo ave a chance to produce in the here and now, particularly in the earlier rounds
