Def. need to make that run for Darren Howard. Guy is an absolute stud. If we had him and Sam on the line, we would be so much better. I want Sam here because he can do so much for our line.

I wouldn't mind going after Howard, but I wouldn't be a big fan of going after Adams. He is old, and I think he proved his worth in 2005 without the backup of Pat Williams. I don't think we have the personell here to allow him to succeed any measure more than he did a year ago.

Re Adams, you're right on my wavelength. I think he needs a big Pat Williams or Ted Washington or Tony Tub-a-goosa type next to him to succeed -- and if we get that then I will bet you that John Thornton's nickname suddenly becomes "Sam Adams Light."

I see that you mentioned earlier about the possibility of Shaun Smith playing the role of a Pat Williams on the line to give Adams the opportunities he needs. This is plausible, as Smith is the huge guy that would fit that mold very well... But his knack for wearing down late in games might be exactly the thing to spell doom for and older tackle like Adams. If his partner struggles with stamina, then I'd bet on him having the same issues, to a greater extent that would otherwise be the case.

That would suggest that seeking help through the draft would be the ideal solution... Still, I wouldn't like the idea of signing a big name free agent defensive tackle like Adams and then drafting another one early in the first day. If we are to delve into the upper tier free agent market, I hope it will be to address a position of need that will not be addressed in the early rounds of the draft. Then again, I suppose it is impossible to know who will and will not be available, and perhaps sometimes it has to happen that way.

Old,another bryan Robinson . No Please. These guys are found not drafted. Are svouts better get the next be fat guy in here quick that can play!

Are you drunk right now? What does svouts mean?

Is Spain drunk? Is water wet? Do bears crap in the woods? Is the Pope Catholic? Etc., etc.

I dunno what svouts means but I like it! I think it should be pronounced "svoots" and used as in...

"We drafted/signed who? What a svout."

It can also be used in non-football descriptions, as in:

"Dude, check out the svouters on that chick!"

:sure:

Well, here's an idea:

First, for purposes of this idea, let's assume that Adams isn't done, and that we could sign him for reasonable terms.

Then at 24 we draft Gabe Watson.

So our DT rotation consists of Smith and Watson as the "big men" and Adams and Thornton as the one-gap pass-rusher types.

Clemons is gone but we slide Robinson back over to DE (his natural position, where he excelled with the Bears for years) in a team-up with Jumpy Jr.

That's an...interesting scenario, IMHO.

Interesting indeed. That would seem to cover a lot of potential holes all at once. Assuming Watson were to pan out well, we'd go very quickly from a poor starting line to a deep talented line. I'd still expect the run defense to struggle early on as all those changes take time to function properly. Still, that sounds like it'd be a solid rotation on all fronts. The most intriguing would be moving Robinson into a rotation with Jumpy... I'm not sure how well Robinson would fare under those circumstances, but that'd put Geathers right back in his situational rush role, where he was very effective as a rookie.

The idea of signing Darren Howard is all well and good, but there will be enough bidders to make sure that he costs a boatload of cash. Remember, one year wonder Kyle Vanden Bosch was a guy I pimped for awhile due to the relatively small price tag he was supposed to carry. We all read what he got, right?

As for Sam Adams, I'd have no interest in the football player, and furthermore....the beer is overrated.

I agree about the beer being over rated that is a fact.

We could go to a war bidding for Howard, we have the cash to do it. With really no interest in any other FA's besides maybe Will Demps, we could easily focus on Howard and get him for a good price. We have about $11 mill to spend on FA's and plenty more to spend re-structuring our O Lineman, why not go all out for the guy?

I don't think Howard is worthy of that sort of attention. He'd be a solid pickup, but by no means would he turn the defense around. If some other team is willing to drown him in fifty dollar bills, then by all means, let them ruin their own cap space.

He would help a much needed pass rush

There's no question, he would indeed help the pass rush. Still, why spend such a huge chunk of our cap space on a player that will only provide that sort of aid? If he were Dwight Freeney, and were capable of being the pass rush all on his own, then I'd be more in favor... He's Darren Howard, a mid-to-upper tier end who is getting older.

Yeah, that's the one piece of the scenario I haven't even really sold myself on yet. Bottom line is that Robinson has been a bust. People bark about Ohalete but at least the team got 56 tackles, a pick and a pass defensed for its $540,000. They paid Robinson $3.2 million out of a 3-year, $6 million deal and he gave us 18 tackles. But cutting him would only net about $500,000 vs. the cap and they'd likely have to burn more than that on a replacement. So I'm trying to find something to do with him, and moving him back to a position where he had success seemed the best idea (esp. with Clemons moving on).

Re Howard...I don't think he will be out of reach...but he will command some coin. One of the facts of free agency is that you always tend to overpay a bit. Guys who are just starters get good player money; good players get elite money; elite players get deals that redefine "franchise" for the position on the rare occasion they come open. That's just supply and demand at work.

OTOH, the alternative is something like I've sketched out with Robinson, which amounts to a good deal of wishin', hopin' & prayin', something that I've always thought the Bengals engaged in far too often.

Actually, you were spot on with your first assesment of Adams. ( Pat Willaims being responsible for his play ) ..... That was almost word for word from the Buffalo sports page. His drop off in production is the reason he's a cap casualty. He's not physically able to play other than situationally.

Adams was in Cincinnati before going to Buffalo, and said he would like to be playing for Lewis. It didn't happen .... he left without an offer and signed with the Bills. It's not going to happen this time either. I'm all for signing that big DT, but Willaims is the one that would have looked good in Stripes ... not Adams. Willaims had a good game against us last year when we played the Vikes. Too bad ..... woulda been nice.

There are also diffrerent types of hash. Ifind myself if I have only hash saying I wish I had some weed. If I only have weed then I want some hash. Its like peanutbutter and jelly they just go together. The only advice Ican give you is dont smoke Hash european style do it african style oure out of a water pipe. I can not get high off joints anymore just a waste of time. If you want to really smoke dont go to amsterdamn its expensive and toned down. Go to moroco. tidbit from Hobson...ah, the irony

With free-agency set to begin Friday and their radar on quarterbacks, the Bengals are on others’ radar. The agent for defensive tackle Sam Adams said Wednesday his client is interested in re-joining head coach Marvin Lewis in Cincinnati.

Adams, who turns 33 in June and has one Super Bowl title with Lewis under his belt, is interested enough that he called Bengals right tackle Willie Anderson Wednesday to let him know he’d like to check out a club that Adams agent Angelo Wright calls “on the cusp of the Super Bowl.” That was hours after the Bills released him.

if he doesn't want big money :P I'd take him

I bet he won't

I'd bet he will. Sam has always been a mercenary, and he's an old hand at ye old "let's use the Bengals as leverage to get a better deal someplace else" game. It was probably inevitable that his first call would be to the Bengals, and his second to his agent to tell him he'd called Willie and to put the word out.

Sam will follow the money. If it leads here, fine by me; if not, fine by me.
