  1. Huff is dropping as fast as Chad Jackson and Broderick Bunkley are rising.

    Pardon?

    How so?

Huff, as I understand it, didn't do much at the combine. Jackson and Bunkley came in studly as can be.

Let's start with the fact that Huff ran a 4.34 40.

  2. I haven't been a fan of Bunkley for the last couple of months but he has changed my mind. I said that we need a big run stuffer and he is not it. I was completely wrong, this guy is 310 lbs of solid muscle. He's big,has a high motor, and extremely athletic. My vote is for Bunkley w/ the 24th pick.

I don't question any of the above, particularly after his good showing at the combine, but Bunkley does have some durability and character issues hanging over him that make make him too risky to take at 24.

  3. 'Gone' might well be figurative, as in "i told the management team to release or trade him prior to the beginning of next season, as dictated by best cap management practice.

'Gone' as in he will be specifically told not to attend camp if he hasn't been granted his outright release yet (June 1 cap thing and all that

'Gone' as in "I've already told him he's not in our plans any longer, and his actual trade or release is a mere formality"

    and so forth

I think Duane Clemons fits this mold

  4. Well, I do hope I am wrong on this one....

But let's say each team can sign 5 FA's a year, and let's also say there are 6 teams that essentially make the big money.

In essence, I'd say that this would mean the top 6x5=30 players from the remaining 26 teams would be taken, the elite, cream of the crop players.

The next year, another 5 from each, and so on

How long before there are no multi-year stars on any of the havenot teams?

  5. THis would quickly devolve the league into two camps

    1) big time teams that simply take the best players from each team each year. These teams would be the ones in the playoffs every year. These teams would rotuinely give away draft picks but wouldn't care - other teams would be developing these picks in essence for them, to be plucked away whenever they are needed.

    2) small time teams who earn draft picks from these losses every year, such that they become the "farm system" for the big teams - plenty of developing young players for a few years who (if they prove to be good) are routinely snatched away by the big teams. These small teams would rarely if ever see the playoffs, and would never have star players for more than a year at a time.

  6. Hello?!? It IS an issue of a player being an upgrade over Schobel. Yes, we are likely to be rid of his dead weight. HOWEVER, if we draft someone who isn't at least better than him, you'll all be whining and crying for the next 4 years.

No....it isn't.....it's a question of providing an upgrade at the position, which includes Reggie Kelly and potentially Ronnie Ghent at the moment.

TJ...if I'm readin you right, you are suggesting we take Fasano before a Pope, Lewis, Byrd, etc. in an earlier round (r2-3) or Maybe Wallace later (r4-6)?

Fasano is a 2 or a 3. Not sure about the exact slotting. Would obviously rather have him at 3 :-)

Wallace is a 6 or 7, I think, and I should add only if we didn't take a TE earlier. I only see us taking one TE, and signing an experienced blocking TE in FA, heck, might even be resigning T Stewart if he'll do a min contract.

I think lewis is an underrated blocker, as Maurice Drew was a very successful RB who made his name on getting to the corner...which relies heavily on the TE blocking...and we all acknowledge that Lewis is a very good reciever.

I tend to agree Lewis could fit....but not in r1. If he's there in 2, I'd say grab him. I just think he'll be taken earlier by a team who needs a receiving TE...his strength is receiving.

Pope is also a decent blocker, especially when you look at his size, can make an impact.

Everything I know of Pope tells me he has the size to become a good blocker, but isn't one right now. Ergo, to me, he's just a tall redzone target. I know this puts me at odds with many readers here, but I don't want Pope even in round 5 or later, not that he'd ever drop that low, as some other team would grab him earlier based on upside.
