Damn those Lions :-)
-
redman.....
Oh HELL no
-
Naw, Barrel House brews locally as well over on Liberty street
-
I think it only hurts us if the three top QBs who would have been taken before 24 are now not all taken before 24....
-
we're not going a baseline 3-4
no way
no how
not
Thanks for your time, and have a great day.
-
Hair - you're in love with Leon?
It can't be!
Leon's too good for you!
err.....
who's Leon?
-
I'm betting we don't see Carson until week 8 at best, ergo my feeling is we need to pick up a quality veteran who will get at least 8 starts
I too would prefer Carson back and ready to go so we never start a #2 QB, but my philosophy is to plan for the worst. Which means we need a QB with the experience to come in and give us quality starts right away
-
With the Saints (Brees) and the Dolphins (Culpepper) now set at starting QB, does this mean the Bengals now have a slightly better shot at securing McCown?
As far as I know, the only two teams hotly pursuing QBs, including McCown, were the two I just mentioned.
Does anyone know of any other team that is talking with McCown?
-
I just want to point out that one of those aforementions options remains taking a safety in r1 if indeed he is the BPA at that point.
To me, this is particularly attractive because now we have that player's experienced veteran mentor - the just-signed superbowl mvp Jackson.
If not r1, then r2, where there should still be some blue chip safeties available.
-
That'd be WR Mike Martin :-)
songwriter and occasional commentator on late night sunday Bengal's/NFL review shows
-
Not sure why he thinks he has a better chance to start there than here.
Very confusing on that specific issue
-
Bye Jon
Thank you for all the unselfish help and support you gave to Carson, even though you really wanted to be a starter
Thank you for lifting this team on your shoulders two years ago as Marvin arrived.
Thanks for being a model citizen here
I wish you well.

Chris Redman
*choke*

Wow.
You honestly feel the Arizona offense of the last 2-3 years compares favorably to the Rams offense of the "greatest show on turf".
Words escape me to fully describe my incredulity, so instead, I'll just virtually wave goodbye to what was left of your credibility in this matter
*buh bye*
-
I should add that I take the following as assumed
1) we lose Schobel and Stewart
2) we sign an experienced #2 QB
3) we sign an experienced TE (better blocker than receiver)
-
Pickett or Bernard....that's where my FA hopes are now (other than signing a veteran FA QB)
-
Count on Bengalindian to make sense of it all :-)

Josh McCown?
Career touchdowns: 25
Career interceptions: 29
Career completion percentage: 57.8
Career rating: 72.1
**RED FLAG**
Most passes thrown in a season: 233
So let me get this straight, McCown has been a starter, and has barely thrown more touchdowns than Martin. In fact, he's barely thrown more passes than Martin in a season hasn't he? He certainly has thrown more interceptions though, hasn't he! Come on dude, get a grip. Martin is as good if not better than McClown.
Let's examine for a moment what offenses each QB has primarily operated in
Martin - St Louis Rams - known at one point in his career as the "greatest show on turf", with 3 legit thousand yard receivers and a top notch running back
McCown - Arizona Cardinals - known pretty much as one of the worst teams in the league
To review: McCown performed nearly as well in a very bad offense as Martin operated in one of the greatest offenses in the last 20 years
Thanks for your contribution, for what little value it had
-
You're preaching to the choir, brother
Two additions to what you are saying
1) Does he give the Bengals a better chance of success in Carson's absence than our other two quarterbacks? (asked another way: does he upgrade our #2 qb spot)
2) Will he sign at a reasonable rate?
I think the answers to both are an unqualified yes, and ergo I think he'd be a great signing for the Bengals. I'd still rather have McCown, but hey, I'd like Carson to get miracle-cured as well.....got to play the cards we are dealt
-
Before the combine, in v1 of my choices, I had Vernon Davis listed as my choice
Now that everyone knows he is the freak I already knew him to be...alas, there is no chance he will fall to us at 24. Be advised that if he'd fall to 24 for some unknown reason shy of he got run over by a truck the night before the draft....I'd still want him at 24.
Important note: I don't like any of the top rated DTs, albeit Bunkley would be my current fave if I was forced to name one. In any case, they drop out of day 1 consideration for me -- and this makes it all the more important from my point of view that the Bengals sign a better than average DT (other than the fat, overrated, overpriced Sam Adams) in FA.
That said....here's my revised mock

Yep, we need to match on Walter
-
Talent evaluation in Arizone is suspect
-
This is a good signing for the Bengals....
1) a veteran who can help develop Madieu and the rookie we'll still draft
2) plays run and pass....perfect fit for Marvin's system
3) can play both safety spots....just as Marvin prefers
4) from a very good defense (Tampa Bay)
5) Super Bowl experience
6) price was reasonable
This is definitely an upgrade that did not break the bank.
The question is not whether he's the greatest signing ever, or whether he's the second coming of Ed Reed....and thats a loud NO to each.....but whether he represents an upgrade at the safety spot at a reasonable cost. If you look at it that way, I think you'll agree.
Oh, and WCA? Every player gets beat sometimes. Even Deion got beat at times. It happens. Showing a pic of an individual instance of a player getting beat is kinda meaningless.

what did you think of my primary choices alone?
Oh, and here's my adjusted list, with the first listed as the pick and the others as alternatives. I have a tall fast SEC receiver as an alternative late.
