  1. Show me where I said they should have reached for a TE. Spoiler: I didn’t. I said they could have been more proactive and accumulated picks to take one, which is exactly what Potts said they hoped to do going into the draft. They had multiple opportunities to do so, but decided not to each time. Well, we’re going to find out if it was the right call soon enough.
  2. Well, looks like we won’t have Brandon Allen to kick around anymore. Off to San Fran. https://www.si.com/nfl/bengals/news/report-former-bengals-qb-brandon-allen-signing-with-san-francisco-49ers
  3. I said absolutely none of this, but feel free to keep putting words I didn’t say in my mouth.
  4. Hobs has an interview with Mike Potts, head of college scouting. Worth a read. https://www.bengals.com/news/scouting-bengals-draft-we-let-our-board-speak-to-us One thing that popped out at me was that he confirms they had trade offers all through the first four rounds, and only took the one little drop back with the Chiefs. They had 7-8 offers at 28. They were just that high on Murphy, Turner and Battle. So, no pressure, but there will be no shortage of second-guessing if any of these dudes bust. Also talks a bit about TE, says there were guys they liked but there were always other guys available they liked more. The obvious rejoinder is, well, you could have been proactive and traded to get a guy instead of sitting around, but of course we all know that’s really not their bag.
  5. Probably just that they know what they got in Adeniji. Makes sense to see if anything has changed for Carman first.
  6. Yeah, it will probably become this years version of Housh’s hammy, which magically flared up every time he was asked to do something he didn’t want to do.
  7. Yeah, I believe Zac said Carman is getting the first shot because Jonah is rehabbing, which is 100% to be expected imo. And it’s also why I don’t think there’s much chance of moving Jonah right now. Who is going to trade for a player with a $12 million fully guaranteed deal who status is up in the air due to injury?
  8. Ding, we have a winner. We just had a draft loaded with TE talent. That will inevitably push veteran guys off rosters this summer. There will be options if they’re interested.
  9. A bit of an addendum to this pick: Kelsey Conway apparently talked to Ossai today. You might recall he was dealing with knee and labrum injuries (and had surgery for the latter) after the season. He’ll miss the offseason program due to ongoing rehab work. Says he “should” be available opening day.
  10. Mixon will be one to watch as we slog through the dead zone between the draft and camp. Right now I see no indication they plan to do anything other than move forward with him as the starting RB under his current deal. Also on the radar: Burrow, Higgins and Logan Wilson. We've heard from both Burrow and the team that they have had conversations about an extension. But how extensive those conversations have been is unknown and there's no indication of, well, anything at all. Is a deal close? Far? Somewhere in the middle? Who knows. Higgins has also said they've talked about a new deal and that he's leaving it up to his agent. Again, the status of that conversation is unknown. Media reports are that they also want to get a new deal done with Wilson, which I would expect to be in the same ballpark as Pratt's deal. That's probably the easiest to get done but I doubt it's a priority at the moment.
  11. I’d say the chances there are any changes to Mixon’s deal now are approximately zero.
  12. His best year by far was 2021. https://www.foxsports.com/college-football/charlie-jones-5-player-stats?category=returning&seasonType=reg Some perspective on his importance to Iowa: https://www.blackheartgoldpants.com/2022/5/27/23143913/charlie-jones-transfer-iowa-hawkeyes-answer-return-special-teams-bhgp
  13. I actually don’t mind the lack of OL picks. I think that they have amply demonstrated over the past 10 years that they utterly stink at drafting OL, regardless of round. I mean, here are their picks since 2014: Russel Bodine Ogbuehi & Fisher Westerman JJ Dielman Billy Price Rod Taylor Jonah Michael Jordan Adeniji Trey Hill Carmen Volson Of all those, the closest thing to a success has been Jonah, and even he has been underwhelming. Volson might be the second success, but needs to show improvement this season. I don’t know why they’re so bad at this but it’s clearly organizational. Until they figure it out I’m fine with them addressing oline by signing proven FAs.
  14. McShay did best picks by team.
