  1. With Gresham not being a part of the team at the moment or foreseeable future, what do the have at the position ??

I like Eifert, but he's coming back from an injury that cost him 2014. Then what ??

    Nothing.

The Bengals still like to run the 2 TE sets and you simply can't do that with the current roster.

Heck, adding one TE barely gets you that and even then it's still sketchy.

I'm not saying 2 TE's are a certainty, but it shouldn't be surprising either.

    One early, one later.

It seems like everyone has forgotten about Funchess as an option. He might not offer much as an in-line blocker but he can run and catch. He will be there in r2 and maybe r3.... Could be a creative pcik they get and create wild mismatches... just recall the creative ways Hue used Rex? That tells me Hue has the vision to find ways to get the ball to guys in mismatches... I'd enjoy seeing Funchess in stripes.

  2. With guys like Gregory and Ray slipping, I'm going to predict one of them (whoever is there - Gregory, if both are there.)

I think the key OT prospects will all be gone - Fisher, Collins, Peat, Flowers, Sherf... don't reach on the injured OT Ogbuehi.

If there is not one of the red flag DE/LBs there, please please take the best available wideout - Parker, Green Beckam, ..

if they go DT Brown, then please take one of the better WR options in r2 - Coates, Dorsett, Smith, Funchess. In fact, Funchess wuld be an ideal Bengals style pick.

Consider this as a late kingWilly 3 round mock.

    r1 - DE/LB - Randy Gregory - nebraska

    r2 - WR/TE - Devin Funchess - MIchigan

    r3a - DT - Grady Jarrett - Clemson

    r3b - S - Cody Prewitt - Mississippi

or maybe it looks like this

    r1 - OT - Flowers

    r2 - WR - Devin Smith

    r3a - LB- Denzel Perryman

    r3b - TE - Tyler Kroft - Rutgers

Either of those would be fine by me.

  3. How difficult is it for these kids to stop smoking weed for a few months...Shane Ray just got busted.

Could drop to the 4th now...

Y'know, if the Bengals get to that 3rd round comp pick and he's still on the board, wtf, go for it. :)/>

I'd support this. Ray is a very good end. His turf toe could be more of an issue than the mary jane. You can quit the ML cold turkey, the toe can linger for some time. Funny, but the MJ may be the ideal way to address the injury pain. RX for smoking is coming, mark my word. Helps with the cognitive stuff from concussions, too, or so they say (from a cloud of smoke).

however, i doubt he slides to r3... too many teams have the need for his game and will also be able to absorb the risk he presents.

  4. Give me #2 please.

It makes no sense to bank your future on a 32 year old guy when there are two young first round picks sitting there waiting for a chance....Btw it may be that Kirk and Dennard are our starting CBS with BOTH Hall and Jones coming off the bench.

I'd like it if dennard and Dre could lock up the corners. Hall doesn't have the tools to be outside anymore. It's just physical limitations right now. Adam can rotate, play dime and possibly slide to FS when needed against teams that have fast TEs.

Apart from the weak contract handling of what they ugh expect from the diminished Hall, I like where the D stands right now. Atkins on the rebound, burfict also rebounding, with MJ back, Hawk inside and great options in the draft at Lb, DE and DT. I'm really encouraged that this D could be one of the best known the league. For real.

Now, can Hue strike gold with his players coming back? Can he continue to progress Dalton to get the most out of him? Maybe a new weapon at WR to move the needle... Bolster the OL? I hope they've got an OK high on their board all sorted out. Strengthen your strengths..

  5. Little nugget in Hobson's latest mailbag. He writes that the FO is trying to get extensions in place for Zeitler and Dre to lower their cap hit next year. Good move if they can do it.

Good move, since the one they a truly a scared of is AJ Green. Even if the franchise his,, it's still a massive pile of cash. Depending on how Dalton pans out, if I'm AJ, I might be a bit hesitant to sign a long term contract.

I would also think how Dre play an a full time role will determine how that plays out.

  6. Yeah, that was pretty much my point in the local guys. It's easy to say they will draft one of those guys, but it's just looking.

The DGB's and Ogbuehi's of the draft stike me as players they may be willing to take a shot on, but they would have to fall far enough for their liking and present as the clear best player available when they go on the clock. In other words, planets have to align. Both of those players are intriguing, but of those two Ogbuehi wouldn't be a wasted pick at all. A true LT that was widely considered a top pick in the draft until he got injured. He may not be ready to go right away, but we are talking about an OT draft pick that is basically going to sit the season anyway. If he were to check out medically, he may be worth the pick.

All a crap shoot, but anyone need look any further than how the analysts rate players from week to week. They have them set and then a report comes out about how some scout questioned this that and the other and they drop their ranking on a player but a few rounds. I'm pretty sure the teams are all but set in stone on their player rankings.

I totally agree with this. Couldn't agree more. TBH, this team has dodged a huge issue given Whit has been so durable and consistent.

Also, really looking forward to seeing the newly professional and prepared Andre Smith. Maybe only folks more excited are named Gio and Jeremy...

  7. Reading this (http://www.bengals.com/news/article-1/Hobsons-Choice-dont-panic-for-receivers/2ef4473b-9e49-4ec3-a057-e03565c07355) Hobson's choice, it's clear there is a clear formula for Hobson in his dealings withe fan emails.

    1. To get your item published, provide sloppy, drooling knob-gobbling to Geoff in some manner, then regurgitate known info/rumor about well planted Bengals PR....

    2. Geoff can then nail the softballs over the fence on topics like how well the Bengals manage their roster, scout talent, understand the salary cap, etc. ad nauseum.

It's enough to make a grown man hit the fridge for another cold one (or yell at his small children in the vicinity).

  8. I think what we are seeing is a guy who knows that he's more than talented enough to make big bank and now is mature enough to work hard and maximize his earnings over the next 3-5 years till his knees/ankles give out.

He will have a career year, and the Bengals will benefit (specifically, J-Hill will benefit) and Moobs will go someplace who will spend huge cake on him, maybe somewhere like Miami, NYG or Oakland.

Jut be aware, it is but an aberration. One we might enjoy for 16-19 games but won't get the full benefit of.

  9. WR Denarius Moore in town for a visit. Had a down year last year but for the three years prior was good for 700ish yards and 5 TDs a year.

Would be a solid pickup and terrific insurance in case Marvin Jones has problems coming back from injury.

This WR can be effective if they had a QB with a big arm. That's not Dalton, as we know.

I, too, hope if he is signed it does not deter them from taking top WR prospect, r1 or r2.

  10. I doubt they bring cOllins back, just for the reasons mentioned. Something soured there and it doesn't seem to be a priority to fix, especially given the current depth. That said, OT could be the r1 pick with fat Andre and Whit both expiring for 2016. Take the best OT and call it a day in r1.

  11. God helps us and the many moods of Jermaine Gresham.

Maybe he can tap into his "playing solid football" mood.

I know you're being sarcastic but I wonder if you aren't onto something. It sounds like Gresham might benefit from a chat with a therapist and a prescription for some Prozac.

The fact that this came out is kind of surprising, commenting on the personality of a player in such a way is way out of character for ML. The fact that he was so explicit signals to me that Gresham will never come back.

And yes, perhaps Jermaine may need some head shrinking or brain meds, certainly wouldn't be the first pro to get some needed help. It's never be Gresham isn't physically able to of the job, it's all been between the ears.

  12. I'm numb to his yammers. He drones in a way that leaves you empty and searching for the real meaning. Like its a big riddle, running an NFL team, akin to bringing resolutions of peace to as wartorn geography. Why can't he simply say it straight. IMHO, it's because I think he may still sign on the line that is dotted but he's on behind the wheel on most things anymore. It's still his plaything but he doesn't do the upkeep or the taking of any barometric readings unless pressed.

  13. I like your mock Army but doubt Dorsett lasts that long. Maybe he'd be there in r2.

Just found out we are family friends with the Alabama TE Brain Vogler, my Father works with his. Just read up and he had a great Pro a day, more of a blocker, so s possible UDFA candidate.... Good size and speed, and decent hands, smart.

  14. The scenario I'm fascinated by is if Hundley is there at 21. It was noted that Zampese was there for his work out. Perhaps they go get a guy who could eclipse both Dalton and McCarron in a year or two.

He's still raw but has the tools and the mentality.

  15. his speculation that they won't go DT early. Instead they'll re-sign Still and maybe bring in an old washed-up dude or two to "compete."

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Total mismanagement.

But they re seemingly fine letting Hall "steal" close to $10M to b a barely average CB for another season is in line with this poor level of management style.

I can't reconcile this thinking, given the competitiveness around the league to improve, that they didn't take full advantage of the situation thy re in with funds there and players that those funds could be used to bring in. It is failing, IMHO, of this organization for years and though they've improved recently, it persisits.

  16. the thing is, hobsonization of the cap aside, they do still have money available

even enough to sign Greg Hardy

    if they wanted to

to me, this is the last year of the window. The superbowl push is 2015 or not at all.

After 2015, we start to lose major pieces.

This I started last year the window is open with the core pieces in place, specifically the Oline.

They could have really taken the pressure off the draft by working a deal with Fairley.

They will still need something before September, so juts deal with Hall now, before the draft.

I agree regarding TE. Cupboard is bare.

'No' to Hardy. That is all.

  17. Here is my take. Resigning Maualuga and Boling. Signing Hawk and MJ. Letting Gresham walk. The Bengals are a better deeper team than last year and that is the point. I don't think you can say the same for the division rivals.

Ravens have some big holes. Steelers are a push. Browns are the Browns.

Bengals are up a few notches but the biggest issues are health status of known quantity guys.

Still need DT, TE, WR, Oline depth and depth in many other spots.
