kevnz
I think it was a good solid first day....Yeah there are some fans that are pissed, but then I trust Marvin to be able to scout defensive players better than the fans can.... BengalszoneBilly
A runningback!?! 1st pick!?! Thank you Mike Brown....eat my shorts you freakin' lame brain a**h***!!This ain't fantasy football you f**k!! This is the NFL you c**ksucker!! Where's my buddy Barbarian? Indycat
After being so stoked for this draft and reading every scouting report and all the predraft info I could find, I've got to say that every pick surprised me. Every pick seemed like a reach. We got potential starters at CB and Safety and a very good back-up RB and added needed depth to the linebackers. I trust our scouts know more about these guys than the stuff I've been reading. GRADE C We still D-line help and a center on day 2.
chrishcovga
At best it's a D.... too many reaches, we didn't fill any immediate needs.. Now tomorrow we're forced to take needs because we drafted so poorly..

Billy, calm down man, it's not as bad as you think, you've been listening to Chris too muchLook at what John Clayton says about these bengalsTeams that aren't ready should add as much talent as possible. That's why the Bengals did good work. They traded down weeks before the draft from the 17th spot to the 24th and got a veteran cornerback, Deltha O'Neal. They also locked up a contract with June 1 salary cap casualty Daryl Gardener at defensive tackle. After that, they drafted young talent -- halfback Perry, cornerback Keiwan Ratliff, safety Madieu Williams, linebackers Calib Miller and Landon Johnson. With a first-year starter at quarterback, Carson Palmer, the Bengals will be an exciting team, but they are loading up for a big run in 2005. They know where they are as a teamAnd no offence but he knows a bit more about football than any of us.
chrishcovga
We could have loaded up with better talent !!! How about S.Jackson in round 1.How about Sean Jones in round 2.How about Donnell Washington/Darnell Dockett/A.Odom/R.Starks in round 2.How about Keyaron Fox in round 3. How about Matt Ware in round 3 ?Man the list is so long on who we missed , it's a damn shame to look at what we got !

I just agree with Chris in the aspect that the team NEEDS DEFENSIVE LINEMEN!!! Hello!!! Sox
There are still some good DL out there, and I fully expect that to be addressed with one of the fourth round picks.
Big Hugg
I'm happy with what we did on the first day. All of these guys are Marvin Lewis players. He built a defense in Baltimore full of guys who had big-time motors and all 4 of our defensive picks have that. We're stockpiling talent, as we should be. Williams and Ratliff might not start this year, but there's football beyond this year and they will be starters down the line. Williams had a bit of a down year this year, but he's still very talented. Miller and Johnson fit right into the interchangable linebacker system he wants, they might not be starters, but they're going to play a lot.Marvin Lewis has said time and time again that he doesn't draft to need, so I don't know why anyone is surprised that he didn't. It does not take a Genius to read a scouting report !! - We suffered through too many bad drafts to encounter a day like this one.. So Yes, IF I had ran the Draft Room today for the Bengals, I can guarantee you, you wouldn't have a guy like myself ripping them a new one at 12:08 in the morning. jditty47
id rate it a C but we got 6 picks left to address the depth at DL. MAYBE CHRIS AND BILLY that marvin thought that the spots we filled in the earlier rounds were a more pressing need than what we prolly will fill in the later rounds. I think we have good vets at DL and plus the DL has alot of good players left out there and IMHO we got 3 picks in the 4th. I bet we have a great 4th round and up our draft to a solid B. Who cares what some scouting report says? This is why we have our own scouting department now. They felt Chris Perry was the best running back in the draft, makes sense to me. I don't see that big of a difference between him and Jackson.I don't see why we have to believe some scouting department over our own teams scouting department. We've only had a "scouting department" for 2 years there Hugg.. Mikey was too damn cheap to give us one.. and by the looks of it.. If you can't tell the difference between S.Jackson and Chris Perry as an NFL Scout.. then Hardees' could always use some managers.
semiotter
Who are these guys is what most fans are saying..But im gonna hold judgement on them to see if it was a good draft. There are to many good players playing out there that got drafted in the later rounds that are probowl and some of the best in the league.. smile and hang in there BENGALS fans... :ub:
BengalszoneBilly
Obviously all here have forgotten how WE GOT OUR ASSES RUN OVER last season. Expect to see it again. The defense has to hold to give the ball to the offense...am I right?? Without the f**king BALL, the offense is worthless!!
jditty47
u act like it was only our DLINE's fault for getting run over. Our linebackers didnt help for crap and our secondary played bad run support.
HoosierCat
Look at what John Clayton says about these bengalsWith a first-year starter at quarterback, Carson Palmer, the Bengals will be an exciting team, but they are loading up for a big run in 2005. They know where they are as a team There it is. How many times have we talked about 2005? How many variations have there been on the old cliche that "Rome wasn't built in a day"? How much WORTHLESS CRAP was there on this team when Marvin took the job, and how much of it has he flushed down the john since? Bottom line is, we're still jigglin' the handle on the toilet trying to flush the last of it out into the Ohio. Every guy we drafted today could start in September and we still wouldn't be any worse off...but at least we'd be looking at guys who could get better versus ones who had maxxed out. chrishcovga
u act like it was only our DLINE's fault for getting run over. Our linebackers didnt help for crap and our secondary played bad run support. A stronger D-Line and Linebackers playing in their natural spots would have kept poor tacklers like Mark Roman and Kevin Kaesviharn from having to make plays against the run. I do think the Defense will be improved this year, 1. Love Hardy back at the SLB spot.2. Not a big fan of Gardner, but I know he's better than Tony Williams.3. Better safety in Herring. He'll take a way a lot of play action that we fell for last year. 4. Rogers Beckett was an unheralded performer last season. When he got banged up towards the end of last year, was a big reason why we struggled with 8 men in the box. 5. Deltha O'Neal is an upgrade... Ratliff is an upgrade.. but losing Weathersby who I thought was a great pick for us last year, is gonna hurt. We may have to draft 2 corners just to make up for his loss this year.6. 2nd year in the system.. Players wont' be " making up plays " as Marvin said .. We'll attack more !Lets' hope we can land Lavalais/Sopoaga/ or Stepanovich.. Dammit lets' get nasty....
