Any Other Bicyclists Here?

Recommended Posts

I needed a good way to stay in shape, keep the cardio up, the weight down and all that rot. I tried jogging, but at my age my knees and other joints weren't happy at all with that approach, so I went looking for another angle, and began looking at bicycles. I have a friend who works at a company next to mine at the airport, and he is waaay into biking. He's a 25 to 50 miles on a weekday kind of guy, over a hundred on a Saturday or Sunday.

Anyway he has a slew of bikes and sold me his slightly older mountain bike so he could upgrade to a newer top of the line job. Huge ass motorcycle looking tires on it, costs over 3K, outta my price range kinda rig, but he gave me a smokin' deal on his old one, and I've been on it for the last two weeks. Today I made a 30+ mile ride, and my cardio seems to be improving. Those first rides were pretty rough but I'm getting stronger. I also use a cool free little app on my phone called Strava, which tracks your ride and records your route, average speed and distance. It also works for you joggers too if you want to track your workouts.

So, does anyone else here get sweaty on two wheels? If not, (besides going to the fridge for another cold one) what is your workout?

I rolled my trash can down the driveway this morning. Does that count?

Depends on how long your driveway is.

I have a bicycle ...it's in the shed, somewhere near the back I think, awkward to get too with all the stuff i piled in front of it so i wouldn't have to see it and a) have to ride it, or B) feel guilty about not riding it.

I know I should but I make up all sorts of excuses not too to get on it - time, family, weather, other commitments, etc etc Work gets in the way a fair bit but again that's an excuse to avoid the physical exertion need to get on and get going.

Now I feel guilty .... I must find some more ladders, boards, timber etc etc to put in front of it and stop the evilness leaching out at me. Then after that I'll find my darts and my beers.

I'm a big road bike fan. I do 2,000 miles a summer. I absolutely love it. Easier on your knees than running. Less accident prone than mountain biking. Plus, cool beer related jerseys.

Pedal your ass out to Arizona and we'll ride.

I like going downhill, but there's too much down in that hill!
