Monday Combine

29 isn't "bad," but for a DT, he should be at least in the low-mid 30's if he's a top 25 pick IMO.

Hell Brady Quinn had 24 reps I believe.

I would like to see the Bengals' get an Adams' replacement - someone who can anchor that d-line in the middle for years to come.

Just don't know if they're going to find that at #18 in this particular draft.

Considering the long arms Okoye has, his reps were pretty impressive. But Tank turned it on. Still needs the bro bra but he looked more like mid-season form than he did at the Senior Bowl.

Jarvis Moss and a svelte Gaines Adams did what they needed to do to show they can play space and both will benefit from consideration by teams of different bases. Moss looked more ready to play space in the positional drills than I expected. He showed his strength ? with a poor shoing on the bench but at least he did it unlike Gaines who probably wouldn't have fared any better. The no-show by Jamaal Anderson doesn't help him.

Some Lbs made some money. Desmond Bishop and Quincy Black looked great and Black scorched the track. Not great upper body strength but he's added a chunk since the Senior Bowl to get at 240. Black easily had the best feet of all the LBs from what I saw. Willis solidifed himself as a mid 1st rounder IMO as did Timmons and Poz ran well enough even though he still looked to stiff and awkard in drills to look the part of a NFL WSLB. Antwan Barnes put up some ridiculous measurables but he might not be viewed as anything more than another Terna Nande.

The big losers in my book so far were Earl Everett, Quentin Moses, Rory Johnson and Prescott Burgess.

Brian Robison tore everything up and should be a Day 1 pick.

Koslowski, Shaw, Black, Timmons and Robison at LB really made waves.

Robison should be there in the 2nd, which may be too high for him. Best vert in the entire combine, wow. Along with a 4'66 forty.

I love Timmons also as an OLB here.

With this group I think you can wait til the 2nd round to get a LB, and get a guy who can start next season.

So no Okoye, Willis or LB's in the 1st round for me so far. :)

Todd McShay said that Timmons slipped quite a bit at the combine because he measured only 6'1" when he had been listed at 6'3". He also slipped because he was supposed to run somewhere in the 4.4 range and only ran the 4.6 range. He dissappointed many because he was supposed to be a "work-out warrior"

Willis definitely helped himself with his time but his forward speed wasn't too much in question to begin with. It does confirm it and teams should figure he can be coached enough to use what he can of it for changing directions back into drops and in reaction to passes. He brings a sure thing in his force in the middle and enough promise that he can stay on the field in passing downs for a team to pull the trigger most likely above the Bengals.

Not sure what McShay was looking for but Timmons is less a workout warrior than a two-legged blitzkrieg. All he had to do was not puke out in the 40 or the bench and he held his end of the bargain. The lower height don't help him because he does need to add some bulk to do what he was projected to do -- 3-4 OLB and SSLB. But on the whole, Timmons backed up what he is -- an explosive short area backer who gets into the backfield and can smother the flat and underneath stuff on his side.

Yup. The Los Angeles Times has been doing daily updates from the combine and Sam Farmer, their NFL beat writer, claimed that the talk everywhere was Timmon's had hurt himself as badly as any prospect at the combine, and that was said to be true largely because of how pedestrian he looked in the actual drills...not because his body wasn't as advertised. To quote, his performance was described as a "snore".

They'll all wake back up as soon as they put on game tape. For any one who's watched him play, Timmons is easily the most dominant point of attack OLB in this draft. His floor was already there as a 4-3 SSLB or 3-4 OLB. The question with him was where else can he play because he came in as the most likely LB physically able to play any LB position in any base in any scheme. It was only a matter of what position he would play and how verstile he is. Drills aside, they all know what he is when he drills QBs and RBs and blankets TEs out of the slot. He adds a good dimension for 4-3 defenses because he can rush wide and stay on the field as a nickel backer who can blitz or slot cover TE. Timmons is a demon on the field.
