one free agent no one is talking about...

Whur CHad At?

No one on this forum is talking about this guy.

He is:

Steve Hutchinson of the Seattle Seahawks.

The guy is the most underrated guards in the league, and IMO, he is the best. He is 28 years old, and is a FA at the end of the year. He went to Michigan, so It would make sense for him to play close to home. Anybody think we should look at him??? A lot of people say he could be the biggest FA available at the end of the season and some people have him goin to us. If we were to get him, we would have the best OL in the league hands down. I could see Marvin pursuing him.

I do not think that Seattle can franchise him because they aren't allowed after using it on Walter Jones the past couple of years.

Because both of their current guards' contracts end after 2006 along with their center, and both of their tackles.

If they can get an upgrade to Williams or Braham now, and sign him long term, I'd do it in a heartbeat - be it in the 1st or 2nd round of the draft, or in FA.

They just invested Fort Knox in Palmer - surely Mike Brown is still having nightmares about Palmer's knee being crushed like a wishbone not two weeks after they signed him.

I've also never seen a team re-sign or extend it's entire 0-line in one year or offseason. Surely someone will throw some dough at Steinbach and Williams also, and Braham will be gone regardless after this season, if not sooner depending.

We should go after him IMO, Gaurds never take in a lot of money, at most 2-3 million a year, and with hutchinson in his prime, he'd be a great aquisition.

Not to mention our cap room is pretty solid.

we could go after hutchinson, and let Stienbach go, for less then probably $200k a year difference.

Hutchinson will be probably demanding the same kind of contract stieny will in 365days.

As great as stienbach is hutchinson is better, hard to believe we could upgrade the LG position but it is very possible.

If we acquire Hutchinson, which I am not adverse to, I would like to try and keep Steibach. He is pretty darn good and valuable in the sense that he can also play tackle (and center for that matter.) With Hutch at right guard and the rest of our line in tact, pretty darn good.

People need to get out of their heads that we have like the worst cap situation right now. It is getting annoying. You gotta spend some doh to get to it in this league. Can't win on old, cheap players.

Why have all that cap room and not go out and spend some of it?? Just waste of money... Besides Hutchinson won't cost $95 mill dollars folks

All that cap room? Hey, asshat.... did you miss the fact that we need to spend a large portion of our cap room on resigning guys who become free agents in 2006? We aren't winning on old cheap players, we are preparing to keep our young, athletic studs.

What I don't understand is why you are giving up on Bobbie Williams?

He had a pretty good year, first off, was healthy throughout, is not expensive, probably has another 4 more good years in him. He's also a high spirited positive oriented fellow.

That, and most analysts thought our offensive line played very well, even excellently, as a unit through the year. Much of an offensive line's strength comes from cohesiveness....knowing what to expect from the guys around you. This will be what...their third year together as a unit? Do you really want to take the chance of subtracting from the overall effectiveness of the unit by adding a player to replace a player who is already pretty good? and burn more cap money doing it?

I dunno. Count me as solidly in the "don't fix what ain't broke" crowd.
