HoosierCat
I noticed that there were three mocks that had us getting Bunkley. How in the world is he going to fall that far to us? I don't know, but that sure would be great in my book !!! WHODEY !!!Old mocks. None of the "bunkley" mocks have been updated in a month.Good to see the bengalszone mock gettin' some respect! HoosierCat
Coming into the home stretch, the net's mock drafters continue to become increasingly divided in their selection for the Bengals at 24. While Leonard Pope is solidly in the lead this week, votes continue to pile up behind DB choices.TE Leonard Pope 13 (+3)S Donte Whitner 7 (no change)DT Gabe Watson 7 (-2)DE Mathais Kiwanuka 6 (+2)CB Antonio Cromartie 4 (+2)S Jason Allen 4 (+1)DE Tamba Hali 4 (no change)CB Jonathan Joseph 3 (+3)CB Ashton Youboty 3 (no change)DT Brodrick Bunkley 3 (no change)C Nick Mangold 2 (+2)S Darnell Bing 2 (no change)DT Haloti Ngata 1 (+1)CB Richard Marshall 1 (+1)LB Thomas Howard 1 (no change)CB Tye Hill 1 (no change)S Ko Simpson 1 (no change)DE Manny Lawson 1 (-1)DT Rodrique Wright 1 (-1)TE Marcedes Lewis 1 (-3)By Position:DB 25 (+5)TE 14 (no change)DT 12 (-3)DE 11 (no change)C 2 (+2)LB 1 (no change)In the second, we have 27 mocks with selections. Stripes
I like to see Cromartie moving up the board some. I think he, Kiwi, or Whitner are all more likely candidates at our pick at 24... Despite our obvious hole at the TE position, I'm losing faith in the possibility that we'll go after Pope or Lewis in the first. Whether or not that is a good thing is up for debate. NO POPE! NO POPE! NO POPE!" (Sounds like a bunch of Protestants, doesn't it?)
marylandbengal
i agree, no Pope (though my zhena may disagree since she's catholic). Other mocks that insist that we're taking a TE first obviously have not been paying attention to our offense the last three years, and also ignore our 25th or so - ranked defense. Now that i've said that out loud, watch the Bengals take a TE .I personally would love to see Cromartie or Bunkley. Kiper actually has Bunkley going 8th to Oakland or Buffalo ( forget which) is picking then.
HoosierCat
TE Leonard Pope 13 (+3)Everybody Else 52 (-3)I think the more telling figure is:DB 25 (+5)All other positions 40 (-1)What the Big Board has been saying over the past couple weeks is that a plurality of mockers expect the Bengals to take a defensive back -- but that there is no consensus at all on which corner or safety is the best choice at 24.Assuming that the Bengals' war room is on a similar wavelength (and it may or may not be) that in turn has to make the possibility of trading down a fairly large one. The team has done it before, after all. And of all the players listed, a great many will likely still be around early in the 2nd. For example, just looking at the offical Bengalszone mock, guys on the Big Board who are still around in the 2nd are:MangoldKiwanukaHaliSimpsonHowardWatsonMarshallYoubotyMcCargo (our pick in the 2nd per the official mock)Bing (lasting to the 3rd)Wright (day 2)Trade down, grab another 3rd or 4th, sounding better and better... ArmyBengal
I'm still of the mindset that if we truly want a TE on day one when we have the defensive needs we do, a trade down or a trade up into the third would be great. Gimme 4 day one picks... DE, CB, TE, DT, or Safety. (not in any particular order)...WHODEY !!!
HoosierCat
Gearing up for the final Big Board update in a day or so. A lot of sites are posing their "final" mocks for the season...check out all the updates on the mock draft database page: http://www.bengalszone.com/mockdrafts.phpHeading around the final turn and into the home stretch, here's a snapshot of the leaders:Pope 13 (no change)Whitner 9 (+2)Cromartie 6 (+2)Kiwanuka 6 (no change)Some notable changes...and a last-minute addition from Miami (Fla.), OT Eric Winston...Mangold 4 (+2)Watson 4 (-3)Lewis 3 (+2)OT Eric Winston 2 (+2)Positionally DB stays in the lead but TE recovered some losses.DB 27 (+2)TE 17 (+3)
Stripes
If these mocks are really of much indication, I'll put my money on Whitner being the pick now.
HoosierCat
Last dance…last chance…for picks. Well, not quite, but I'm not going to go nuts updating tomorrow morning's raft of Mario/Reggie changes which have zero impact on the Bengals. So here ya go…from Bengalszone's mock draft database, the final Big Board. Appropriately, I suppose, we finally have a DB tied for the lead, after DTs and TEs have led all along. Big last-minute push by Marcedes Lewis as well.S Donte Whitner 10 (+3)TE Leonard Pope 10 (-3)TE Marcedes Lewis 6 (+5)DE Mathais Kiwanuka 6 (no change)CB Antonio Cromartie 5 (+1)S Jason Allen 5 (+1)C Nick Mangold 4 (+2)CB Jonathan Joseph 3 (no change)DE Tamba Hali 3 (-1)OT Eric Winston 2 (+2)CB Richard Marshall 2 (+1)S Darnell Bing 2 (no change)CB Ashton Youboty 2 (-1)DT Brodrick Bunkley 2 (-1)DT Gabe Watson 2 (-5)DE Kamerion Wimbley 1 (+1)LB DeMeco Ryans 1 (+1)TE Vernon Davis 1 (no change)CB Tye Hill 1 (no change)S Ko Simpson 1 (no change)DT Rodrique Wright 1 (-1)By Position:DB 31 (+6)TE 17 (+3)DE 10 (-1)OL 6 (+4)DT 5 (-7)LB 1 (no change)In the second, we have 32 mocks with selections.
