oldschooler Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 Bengals' unrestricted free agentsBy the Dayton Daily News• CB Rashad Bauman — Small- but-tough defender and solid special-teamer with room to improve. Plays with a mean streak. Prediction: Return.• QB Jon Kitna — A solid backup and terrific veteran leader who is needed to bridge the gap until Carson Palmer gets healthy. Prediction: Return.• FB Nick Luchey — Still has the tools to be a weapon in the base offense and on special teams. He'll back up Jeremi Johnson. Prediction: Return.• SS Anthony Mitchell — Did a good job in kick coverage on special teams, but couldn't break into the lineup as a starter. Prediction: Leave.• C Larry Moore — Deserves chance to reclaim his spot as the backup center after going on IR (right knee dislocation) Oct. 3. Prediction: Return.• LB Hannibal Navies — A tough special teamer, he should improve dramatically after gaining experience in a new system. Prediction: Return.• SS Ifeanyi Ohalete — Signed as an emergency replacement for injured Madieu Williams, Ohalete was way too inconsistent. Prediction: Leave.• DE Carl Powell — A dependable, reliable veteran who does a good job in a backup role. He brings toughness to the unit. Prediction: Return.• TE Matt Schobel — For having the reputation as a receiving tight end, he dropped too many passes. It's time to move on. Prediction: Leave.• TE Tony Stewart — A solid citizen as the club's player rep, but lack of progress as a blocker and receiver was disappointing. Prediction: Leave.• LB Nate Webster — Set a great example by returning from a severe knee injury in 2004, but won't beat out Odell Thurman. Prediction: Leave.• LB Marcus Wilkins — Found his niche as a wrecking ball in coverage on special teams. If he keeps it up, he'll stick around. Prediction: Return. Quote
Stripes Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 I agree with all of these predictions, except for Tony Stewart. I'm certainly not saying he's a good tight end, but I doubt we'll drop two of them this year. Schobel might be replaced in the draft or by Ghent, but with Marvin always saying he likes his tight end trio, I don't see us dumping two of them. Quote
walshfan Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 Not sure about Larry Moore ....I say Powell leaves... Quote
Tasher Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 My take, with a few extra players thrown in that I think are on the bubble (not all inclusive, just where I think most likely):Bauman, Rashad - ? could resignBrooks, Greg - may get releasedJohnson, Jeremi - resignKitna, Jon - probably goneKooistra, Scott - resignedLarson, Kyle - will resign but will face a stiff competitor in campLuchey, Nick - may resign to compete with Watson in campMitchell, Anthony - resign for STMoore, Larry - ? could go either way depending on Wilkersons health and performance of rook OLNavies, Hannibal - goneOhalete, Ifeanyi - gonePowell, Carl - goneSchobel, Matt - goneStewart, Tony - resignWalter, Kevin - resignWashington, Kelley - offersheet/resign if for no other reason than compensationWatson, Kenny - resignWebster, Nate - will offer to resign him if he wants to stay, but probably will goWilkins, Marcus - resign Quote
schweinhart Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 Good God I hope the Dayton list is wrong. The only two unrestricted free agents worth re-signing are Kitna and Wilkins. All the others will be lucky to make any other NFL roster.Besides those 2 the only other UFA worth re-signing would be Kenny Watson if it's at league minimum.Larry Moore is a versatile player at guard and center but he can't stay healthy. Maybe he's worth consideration at the minimum but I'd rather they moved on with Adam Kieft and Ben Wilkerson if it looks like either of them will be able to play again. Quote

BengalChamps Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 Please let Carl Powel leave. There HAS to be better options than him. Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 Can't say I'd complain too much about any of them staying or leaving Quote
ShulaSteakhouse Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 Can't say I'd complain too much about any of them staying or leaving You mean it isn't a sign of the apocolypse if Kitna leaves? Apparently he is drawing a lot of interest from teams like Detroit who have unsettled QB situations, where a veteran may be needed to compete for immediate action. Doubt he'll get a starting guarantee anywhere - but he isn't competing for Pt here certainly. Another toss-up situation.Too early to call on a lot of these minor players - probably won't know until after FA and the draft per the norm. Quote

schweinhart Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Given the Bengals CB situation, Bauman does seem to have a better chance to get re-signed than most of the other UFAs. He is the quickest CB they have blitzing off the edge and does show up at least in the dime and the nickel when he got the chance. Quote
