jjakq27
http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/art...SPT02/601220355 Good review of all position groups. Curnutte speculates that Kitna, Tory James, Schoebel, Clemons and Webster may not be back.

jjakq27
Problem is that the Hayes brothers are friends of Marvin's.
walshfan
Friend or not the guy isnt getting the job done ....If you keep a coach because of friendship your not acting in the best interest of the team...
ShulaSteakhouse
The word "insightful" doesn't come to mind when I think of Curnutte. The only thing his summary of obviousness reminds me of, is that they're simply going to have to hope guys like Geathers, Ratliff, Pollack and Wilkerson step up and do well next year.I am hoping Geathers takes over Clemons role as a pass rushing specialist until he earns a full-time DE spot - as a result of signing or drafting a 3 down 4-3 DE who can provide more consistent production and get to the QB and cause more havoc in the opposing backfield. cover2
There are many other positions that need to be addressed and James is not one of them, with the lack ofsupport from the saftey position both sides, Deltha and Tory had their hands full. I think Torys got one more year. I would like to see them rework Thortons contract, replace him with a FA and let Thorton take Powells job. Simmons is a person of interest......may be replaced? The 1st pick in the draft must be a impact player. We need that immoveable object. I just don't see aDT worth the pick falling to us at 24. The combine will sort this out. Canute said something about Ratliff taking Torys job at corner.........say it ain't so.
The_Next_Big_Thing
You know, what pisses me off is last year, O'Neal was ok, and Tory was the pro-bowler. THis year, Tory was ok, and O'Neal is the pro-bowler. A year outside of going to the pro-bowl, now Tory is a goat and "won't likely be back"?SCREW THAT NOISE, Tory is fine. Our secondary failed not because of our corners, but because Ohalete sucked, and KK is a good BACKUP, but not a true starter, and thus the safety help over the top wasn't there for the corners. Kazkal
Aye I would have been fine with KK in when 1 of our safetys goes down... because we'd still have another good one in but when they both go down bleh

I still like Tory but how many times did he get burned on the stop and go routes this year? Teams (Indy, Pittsburgh) took advantage of him and made some big plays over the top. That may be the fault of the safety I don't know. But getting beat consistently down the sideline was getting to be a routine occurence with him. HairOnFire
James is done, and his contract is too big. He's got to go. The most surprising thing about the article was how soft the criticism of Schobel was worded and the missing mention of the cap savings that would result if John Thornton was cut loose. I'm not one of those who have slagged Thornton's play, and I'd be interested in keeping him around for less, but his current contract makes him a bubble guy. About Tory... I think he still has skills... but he, even more than Deltha, makes very costly gambles, and would greatly benefit from having a good safety back there. But if you are right about his contract being too big... don't be surprised with Antonio Cromartie out of Florida State in the first round. We're not going to get a CB through FA. Marvin said that flat out... and if we cut our #2 guy without Ratliff showing he's ready, then CB becomes a big need in this draft... especially with so many SS out there in FA to be had, and plenty of quality 2nd round DT's in this draft. turningpoint
probelm is i can only name 1 2nd round dt that ever amounted to s**t, and that's shaun rodgers or it was casey hampton? anyways they were college teammates one went in the 1st another in the 2nd.But back to my point I still can't name 2. BengalszoneBilly
Personally I hope James is back next season, and it's not surprising he's not the pro bowler this season and Deltha is. It will probably switch back the other way next season if both are still here.
