Whur CHad At?
The guy just got fired from the JETS today. He was suspected to be a head coach for the coming season but doesn't look like it will happen. I think we should bring the guy in as LB's or DL coach, and then he can take over for BRESH if he doesn't improve the D next year.Anybody like the idea? Indycat
Fire Bresnahan and hire Henderson as defensive coodinator.Bresnahan's defense went from 19th ranked in '04 to 28th this year.

There's apparently nothing special about Breshnahan. Certainly hope we're all wrong, bout all you can do if he stays. Hard to judge a guy with one year and the best defensive player injured - so who knows, but that defense got progressively worse as the season went on (aka terrible), worse than it should've been. Not ideal for a defense that already has holes that need filling. You don't fire a DC after one year on the job... especially when he didn't have all the players. If we get a SS, and some upgrades on the D-Line, and we still suck, I'll listen to your argument... but our poor 2nd half defense was not Bresnahan's fault... and with the right players, our defense will be fine. I expect the type of one year improvement that the Colts had last year.

I expect the type of one year improvement that the Colts had last year.In '04 we had Williams and Cleamons as DL starters and the LB's had Hardy and L Johnson(playing out of position)as starters. This year we have more talent on the DL and a lot more talent at LB and the secondary led the the NFL in interceptions and the best Bresnahan could do was 28th.We may be stuck with Bresnahan for another year but he hasn't earned it. Fire Marvin too, his defense went from 19th ranked in 04 to 28th this year. You sir, are an ignorant asshat. If we continue to fire our staff every year, we won't EVER get anywhere. walshfan
One word..........Continuity...You cant keep bringing in new DC's because the peices arent in place yet...lousey tackles. lousey safties... improve that area and the defense will be stronger.... CBin2k7
I am not sold on Bres, but I am not ready to give up on him either. Who's to say that Donnie Henderson would be any better.
DesperateDerelict
This year we have more talent on the DLI disagree . . . Clemons, Thornton, and Geathers had better years in '04 than '05 - Robinson was a disappointment, and Justin continues to grade out at OK - more disappearing acts than highlight film.We also relied heavily on a rookie MLB who took the wrong angle as often as not.Every GREAT defense is strong up the middle and speedy on the outside . . . let's get the personnel in place before we grade out Chucky. To say we had an upgraded D-Line this year is silly. We ranked 30th in the league in sacks this year. Last year we ranked 20th. The only change was to make Geathers full time, and bring in Brian Robinson (who was injured for several games). Really all we did was move guys around alot. We didn't improve the talent base. The secondary did well with INT's but you live and die by the big play. Our D-Line couldn't get enough pressure on the QB to make him throw when he didn't want to, so our 3rd string safeties got exploited a lot. Get the talent in there, and then make your assessment. Changing schemes every year will drown us in mediocrity. However... having young players that know the system... and surrounding them with talent at other positions, and we will ahve a great defense. The reason this defense sucked was because of some very important holes on the roster... not the DC's scheme. Fill those holes this year and we have a top 10 defense. Don't fill those holes... it won't matter who the DC is. We'll still suck
redsfan2
I'm not real big on giving up on either of the coordinators just yet. Didn't like Brats play calling all the time, but you have to admit that we had a pretty darned good offense. Defense wasn't going to put the fear of God into anyone ...... but on the other hand look at the rookies and 2nd year guys we had out there. Most of them improved as the year went along as well ... which kinda makes you think its not a lack of coaching. Don't worry .... If coach Lewis isn't happy with the defense next year Chucky B. will be on the Frazier Out of Town Express so fast he won't have time to pack. Coach Lewis was recognized as one of the best DC's around .... and he isn't going to put up with a sub standard defense on this team either. Give 'em time

Agreed. Marvin had Ray Lewis at Baltimore. Dungy had Sapp and Derrick Brooks at TB. LeBeau has Polamalu and a great D-line. Great players make coaches look good. Who do we have on defense that fits that category other than Deltha? We've got some good players. Better than we used to have but very few game changers. This team needs a few stars on defense. If they can do that, Chuck and Marvin will look so much smarter than they do now.
HairOnFire
Fire Bresnahan and hire Henderson as defensive coodinator.Bresnahan's defense went from 19th ranked in '04 to 28th this year. If Bresnahan has only himself to blame of he finds himself twisting in the wind. The defensive performance in the seasons 2nd half was...well, undefendable. The best I can muster is a half-hearted mention that Bresnahan may be one of those coordinators who doesn't adapt as well to working with the talent on hand as Frazier seemed to. BTW, didn't Marvin express interest in adding Donnie Henderson when he was putting together his first Bengal coaching staff, but was denied permission to talk to him? Whur CHad At?
Breshnahan never succeeded in Oakland, matter of a fact he did a horrible job there. As much as I hate BRESH, I think we should keep him and then grab Donnie and put him as LB's coach. If Chuck doesn't succeed next year, fire him, and put Donnie in his place.
