semiotter
Well with hardly any trades I dont think we will do much. Lets see we lost are team capitan ans got a pitcher in return??? Mmmmmh good trade ,bad trade ,I Think bad. Shawn might not of hit alot of homers but did bat with a high avg. and was a good leader. We did get Tony Womack. I always liked him. Some say he is getting to old but I think he has some good years left. So I just opened the door a little so jump in and lets here it fellows.......... Stripes
I thought the offseason for the Reds was terrible. Still, I expect the starting pitching to be a little better, and hopefully the bullpen will be good again. I doubt we'll be making a serious playoff run, or even get to .500.Of course I hope I'm wrong though, with the Reds it's impossible to know what is coming. ArmyBengal
Nothing to look forward to whatsoever... I'll be rooting for them, but don't expect much more than a good time traveling to Houston for the weekend to catch the game this year... Can Marvin Lewis manage a baseball team ?? Anyway.....WHODEY !!!
Whur CHad At?
Nothing this year...possbily finishing last in the division, and National League. I see the owners though to start spending money and developing us into the next St.Louis Cardinals.
CBin2k7
This season could be painful. I think that we reside in one of the toughest divisions in baseball. Obviously since the top two teams in our division have been to the world series in the last two years and have also spent the last to seasons playing each other in the NLCS. Chicago has so much money to spend every year, health with their pitching is big for them.Milwaukee is going to be good, if not this year than next. They have some really good prospects coming up, solid pitching depth and overall talent on the roster. While the Reds have good power, who on this team is going to hit for average. Who is going to hit with runners in scoring position. We may see an all time team strikeout record broken. This team still seems to lack speed. The defense is going to be terrible. The bullpen is still a question mark, who is going to close for this team.So many holes, but I do think that the new owners will get it fixed, they first need to figure out what type of team do they want to be. bengalindian
Same old, same old. Start out hot, and fall off the deep end down the stretch. But I see a lot more balance in the offensive part of this team. They look like they can be a lot more like the '99 team by playing small ball as well as hitting the ball deep. Aurilia, Freel, Lopez, and Womack are all good players that know how to make contact with the ball, and can get on base. The pitching on the other hand will be below average, but I'm looking for Milton to adjust and not give up the long ball (as much), and hopefully Harang and this Dave Williams character give us strong enough seasons that the Reds carry us fans until training camp for the Bengals starts.Go Reds? Stripes
How many of you will throw up the moment Sean Casey gets a stand up double in his first at-bat against the Reds?
AMC
How many of you will throw up the moment Sean Casey gets a stand up double in his first at-bat against the Reds?Throw up???? I'll be cheering my a$$ off! Any team that "makes room" so Wily Mo Pena and Austin Kearns can play every day is in a world of hurt. nNver understood why they like kKarns so much. Milton will pitch better I hope. Harang will pitch alot of innings. Williams is another lefty to go with Claussen. I am still shaking my head on Womack. Don't understand that move while still resigning Aurilia. Too much redundancy in the roster. The bullpen with Weathers and Mercker will be solid in the middle ininnigs but they will pitch ALOT of innings again. Hopefully Coffey becomes the everyday closer. And they need other guys to step up in the pen.Man, how's that for a bunch of ??????'s.....
CBin2k7
I wonder how a full spring training under Vern Ruhle will work out for the pitching staff. The numbers got better for the pitching staff last year when he took over. Health is a huge question with this team, especially in the outfield. Not very confident in the fact that Griffey, Pena and Kearns can stay healhy for any period of time. I really hope that Claussen and Harang have another solid year, they could be a solid 2/3 or 3/4 for years to come for this team. Not much faith in Milton, Wilson or Williams. When will the drafts start netting some pitching? Does anyone know if there is any pitching at the high levels of the minors, AAA or AA?I am just going to sit back and watch this year with no expectations of anything above a sixth place finish. Kirkendall
Yea, this off-season has been pretty lame. I didn't see much improvement with this team in terms of guys that can take over and do what we need. I will admit, I think the depth has improved and I do think the pitching has improved -- albeit, only very very small improvements. But this off-season had one thing working against us; the waiting period for the transition to the Castellini group. Now the new owners are in charge. While I don't expect them to do much now, since most of the good players have signed on someplace else, I do think the organization will revamp the philosophy and probably bring in their own guys.I doubt we'll be competitive throughout the season so I'm interested to see how Wily Mo, Kearns, Lopez, and our pitching PROGRESS. The '06-07 off-season, to me, will be either BIG TIME or it'll be big time disappointment. But all indications are they'll raise the payroll to roughly 70-75 million and that's a great first step. redsfan2
The change of ownership is the one thing that has me optimistic about the teams chances & future. Lindner ... as great a guy as he is was a downright terrible owner. Article in the Enquirer says that most of the first changes will be made in the front office .... and that's exactly where they needed to start. It also added that Allen will likely stay with the team " in some capacity". That's fine .... Just don't let him run anything or make any decisions.I'm figuring the new owners have put most everyone on notice ... and will give them this season to determine their own future with the team. That's what I'm hoping anyway. Narron was impressed with his meeting with Castellini ( would he have said otherwise ? ) ........ He says the guy is passionate about the game and the team. That's something that Lindner never was ... and saying that one thing gives me hope. Talking about hope .... future .... improvent .... getting new blood in here .......Can anyone tell that I'm a Cincinnati fan ?? Seems to be a constant mantra around here no matter what team you're talking about.
CBin2k7
You know, I am a life long Reds fan, I pay good money to see them play anytime the are out here on the west coast. I think most Reds fans agree this season is going to be bad, but there is hope, because maybe for the first time in 5 years we see some sort of a plan for the future and how they are going to build the team. Fans can cope with losing if they see signs of a turn around and an ultimate goal, losing with no plan to fix it is what makes fans hopeless. BengalszoneBilly
What are you guys expecting out of them?I expect alot of talk out of training camp of how improved the team is, how well the pitching seems to be coming along, how well Junior seems to be seeing the ball again, and then by the All Star break they'll be nowhere near the top.In other words another year of disappointment. God I wish life had a fast forward button on it so I could just blow past the baseball season! As far as hockey I'd just "Control-Alt-Delete" that whole mess goodbye. It was so nice when they were locked out and not cluttering up my Sports Center!

redsbengalsbucks
Have they said who will backup Dunn at 1st base or who will be the starting 3rd baseman?
Stripes
Have they said who will backup Dunn at 1st base or who will be the starting 3rd baseman? LINKAccording to the depth chart, Dunn has no backup. Edwin Encarnacion will be starting at third, one thing I am looking foward to this season. CBin2k7
I am guessing Dunn's backup will be the combination of Larue/Valentin.

AGrizzlyBaer
every year the reds start fast, and then lose the first place about june, and then fall compeletly back at the all star break, at least thats how it seemed to go... so im not getting my hopes up this year, but if they surprise me well thats cool
