palmermvp Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 I just don't see how this will be possible, injuries like this take time to heal after surgury. He will be out for atleast the first 8 games of next season and who knows how long it will take for him to get his mind right after he's healthy(well healthier). Man, Any ability Carson had as a mobile QB is gone and one good hit on that knee again and it's over.Going to be very nervous everytime Carson gets sacked are even slides. How can he go from the best up and coming QB to who knows if he will ever be the same on one freak play. Maybe its payback from Bo Jackson, Very depressing. I guess this is a lesson not to take any sport to serious because one play and your dreams are shot. TJ on primetime saying Carson was "Elway-like" makes me feel even worse. Atleast Carson is a 100 million dollar man, can't feel to bad for him. Quote
Stripes Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 The tear on his ligaments were totally clean, and that is what is leading people to think he may be back earlier than that. We won't know for sure until the time comes, but we do know that Palmer will be putting all his energy into that rehabilitation to make this work. Quote
cincycane513 Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 i talked to a doctor on another site i am on here is what was said.my questionWhy would a clean tear of an acl and mcl be easier to heal and possibly not require as difficult of surgery? I know you are a doctor just curious if you had much knowledge in this type of injury. I am referring to Carson Palmers injury. Thanks if you can help me break this down. I dont know if i buy him being back next season.his answerit's funny I heard that ESPN the other day and I laughed a little bit. It really depends on what ligaments are damaged and how badly they are damaged but in any event, he's still going to have to undergo surgery and repair because it's not going to "heal by itself."Also, the extent of the damage usually isn't evident until about 1 week after the injury because that's when the MRI will be easiest to read and determine what structures are damaged due to decreased swelling, inflammatory mediators, etc, which obscure the film.I think what they meant by their comment was that the ligament is not "shredded" and it was a clean tear whether at the insertion of the ligament or clean through, but I highly doubt anyone's ability to ascertain that information so soon after the injury.Carson is still going under the knife and will probably miss quite a few months before he starts to regain some of his speed and lateral agility.my questiondoes he have any shot if it is a clean tear of the acl and mcl of being back in time for training camp? if so what are the odds?his answerhe could be back but definitely not as mobile as he was previously...the ligaments take so long ot heal because of the lack of vascularity feeding into them. He'd probably be able to walk around the do things but as far as full contact, that's really up in the air...depending on how his rehab progresses. Also, it's fairly rare to injure those two structures without also injuring the medial meniscus as well...if he didn't, then he got pretty lucky and will lessen recovery time.hope this helps guys Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 Cool medical infoIn six months he should be able to jog slowly, maybeAs a Qb, he doesn't need to jog ANY in training camp (With 118 mill, theres a lot of things you don't have to do ) he'll be there, throwing LIGHTLY on the sidelines and watching most everything else.I DO think he'll be ready by the begining of next season, worst case missing the first four.Jusy 2 cents by the way Quote
HairOnFire Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 I'm very reluctant to step into the role of internet doctor, but Palmer's injury is going to be a major concern and relevant topic of discussion for quite some time. So I'll repeat what I've heard so far. A - Full recovery from this type of injury is typically 8-9 months. But QB's have often returned much earlier than this due to the position being less demanding on injured knees. B - Both ligaments injuries were said to be complete but clean tears. As bad as that sounds, and it's bad enough, it's actually good news as the repair surgery is said to be less involved. By comparison, Ki-Jana Carter's doctor described that injury by comparing the insides of his knee to an "exploded mop". That led doctors to initially fear that Carter may never walk or run again, let alone play football. As bad as Palmers injury is said to be I've yet to hear such dire predictions made in regards to his future.C - Palmer may never be the same player again. There's no denying it. His mobility may always be compromised, increasing his vulnerability to a pass rush, and the chances of seriously reinjuring the knee have now increased dramatically. That said, the true extent of his injury and recovery won't be known for months, and I refuse to put my head in the oven until given reason to. Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 September is eight months (I counted )Seems like a reasonable amountUnlike Hair, I will overthink this for months Quote
BengalByTheBay Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 HOF's lying -- he will overthink it too. I am neither a doctor, nor play one on tv, but it seems to me prudent to wait about a week to see what they say when the smoke clears a little. I am mindful of the note that the MRI's are not particularly clear right away (that sounds reasonable to me so I'll go with that). Basically, I want to hear somebody officially say when his surgery is scheduled before I lose my mind. Hell, it could be worse than they think right now and then I'll have to go all extra hysterical to make up for lost time. Quote
HairOnFire Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 HOF's lying -- he will overthink it too. I didn't say I wouldn't overthink it. What I said was I refuse to put my head in the oven by assuming the worst until more info is known. To be quite honest I'd describe my mood right now as rather numb, slightly depressed, and pretty close to going off on those of you who have written next season off or claimed that we're doomed. (Time may prove you correct, but I don't want to hear it.) Quote
