And the battle for mental dominance between Peter "Bengals Hater" King and Retep "Bengals Homer" Gnik continues. King clearlly holds the upper hand while assembling the weekly "fine fifteen" list:

9. Tampa Bay (11-6). This was Mark Brunell's stat line: 7-of-16, 41 yards, no touchdowns, one interception. That was one heck of a defensive show by the Bucs in a losing cause.

10. Jacksonville (12-5). One of the Jags coaches, Alfredo Roberts, told me the other day how Jacksonville players felt they were being overlooked by everyone, getting no respect nationally. I loved his response. He told them to win the game and they'd get respect.

See, that's how this game works. The media makes heroes out of people who win big games in January. The media won't be making any heroes out of the Jaguars this month.

11. New York Giants (11-6). You can't say enough bad things about how the Giants played. The last team that looked so bad in a playoff game was Minnesota, in the 41-0 NFC title game loss to the Giants five years ago.

12. Cincinnati (11-6). No Carson Palmer. No hope.

Okay, let's review: with our starting QB knocked out on the 2nd play of the 1st drive, the Bengals still manage a halftime lead and finally fall by 17. The Giants are shut out at home, losing by 23, with no comparable injury; the Jags lose by 25 in Foxboro. And the Bucs lose at home to a team that generated 120 net yards of offense. Yet the Bengals are the worst of the four?

However, later in the column, Retep asserts himself, making several astute observations, including:

g. I can't blame anything but the game of football for the horrible knee injury suffered by Carson Palmer. Nothing purposeful on the rolling, after-the-play hit by Kimo von Oelhoeffen. These things happen.

h. I'm not one to play what-if games, but as much as I like Jon Kitna, the Bengals lost Sunday because they lost their starting quarterback on the second play of the game.

h. I would have liked the Bengals running game to take more of the pressure off Kitna.

Go figure.

Never see a man talk out of both sides of his mouth so bad

It would be hard to win an argument with Peter King, cause he takes both sides

I'm reminded of Farva from Super Troopers

"I just lost a buck.........TO MYSELF" :lmao:

Couldn't run the ball last night because there was no blocking - the 0-line was atrocious. Funny how Mike Goff became an all-pro candidate once he left here for San Diego.

Couldn't be a better time to finally get rid of that slouch Alexander.

The people who think we have some great o-line are the same people who think we have a "dominant defense" or that Kitna is the best backup in the league.

Sorry to get off subject - but as for King - the Giants are a toss-up to me when it comes to the Bengals - when your defense gives up 31 points a game - literally - you aren't going to win very often - as evidence in their sub-.500 record the last 8 or so games this season.
