ShulaSteakhouse Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Why are people so eager to have Kitna back? Was I the only one who watched him not get rid of the ball, fumble it, throw over people's heads, and throw INT's last night? Didn't he do the same crappy job last week in KC? So he has one or two good drives (short) and he's the best we can do?We shouldn't confuse someone approaching semi-competence with a strong armed backup QB who can play effectively in a vertical passing offense. There's too many weapons and too much talent here to play that poorly as a QB - nothing any of you can say will convince me otherwise about Kitna - time to move on and find a better solution if possible. Also - after watching Gus in Miami this year, do you guys REALLY think Kitna is a better QB than he is right now? Geesh, Kitna is AWFUL. Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Please note that all of Kitna's mistakes came AFTER he saw Carson in the locker room at halftime. It seems that when he found out just how bad it was, he got shaken badly. Kinda like when you have a family member seriously hurt or killed and you can't seem to concentrate. Remember, Carson Palmer is one of Jon's best friends. Quote

HoosierCat Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Kit did pretty well in the first half yesterday. Re the 3rd quarter breakdown, I blame that more on two other factors: first, this team still lacks some mental toughness. When they botched the FG try I think it just deflated them, tossed then mentally back to the first Pitt game and it's botched red zone opportunities. After Carson's injury, that was the straw that broke the proverbial camel's back. Second, playcalling. As usual, Martzkowski forgot that the rules allow you to run the ball after the half. With the Bengals not even pretending to run, the Steelers DBs could sit back and play ballhawk. Quote
CBin2k7 Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 No excuses for Brat, but maybe one of the reasons that went into not running the ball, is the fact the Steelers could play more in the box, without the threat of the deep passing game. Chris Henry's exit hurt alot too, because he spread the field, as serviceable as Walter is, he doesn't. Quote

Geesh, Kitna is AWFUL.I just don't think they have a choice for next year. I don't see anyone outside the organization coming in and contributing right away. So, unless they are willing to hitch their wagon to Krenzel, what other options do they have? The reality is there is at least a decent chance that Carson will not be 100% at the start of the season.
