ttilt Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 After a decent 1st half and....well a not so decent second half, what will Kitna do next year? Go start on a different team? Stay with us? would he even make the cut? (had to think of some reason to fit that in there ) and if he does leave who would be #2? Would a late qb draft pick be a good idea? and if so who? maybe a guy named omar? Quote
Grendel Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I say keep Kitna. From what I saw he did a good job in the first half. I also noticed the Bengals play changed after the bad field goal snap. It seemed the moral dropped after that. So I don't put the loss on Kitna. Quote
cincy9275 Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 i like kitna if carson doesn't get hurt i would dump him but with this injury you will not find a qb that knows are ofense like he does. but if brat goes then we will see what happen Quote
Stripes Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Keep Kitna, he's the best option we have. Krenzel is out of the question, and no other potential backups look worth getting. Quote
CBin2k7 Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I say we keep Kitna, but we draft a strong armed QB to eventually groom as the backup QB. The way this offense is set up we need a QB with a better arm to take over for Carson just in case. I was watching the interview of the Steelers LB and he said in the 2nd half it was easy to defend the Bengals because Kitna can't throw the ball like Carson. The Offense is very predicitable with Kit and tends to play inside the numbers, because he can't make most of the throws outside the numbers. Quote
walshfan Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Kitna stays now.... no doubts about issue... He knows the system and he'll be immensely helpful in keeping Palmer's outlook postive while he's rehabbing....I believe Kitna helps Palmer's pysche more than the fans think.... Quote
Kirkendall Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 i like kitna if carson doesn't get hurt i would dump him but with this injury you will not find a qb that knows are ofense like he does. but if brat goes then we will see what happenYeap. With Carson's injury now a factor this off-season, I say sign Kitna ASAP b/c it's unclear if Carson will be ready in time. I know reports are saying he will be, but let's be safe than sorry. Although, my scarlet blood tells me Krentzel will be a great backup QB for the Bengals. The guy can disect a frog during one full rundown of the playclock, why not a defense? Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Kitna earned a raise yesterday. No, we didn't win, and he had some problems, but he looked sharp for a while there. Quote
Kirkendall Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Kitna earned a raise yesterday. No, we didn't win, and he had some problems, but he looked sharp for a while there.I agree. Considering he probably didn't get many snaps during the week and was thrown in immediately into a playoff game. All things considered, it wasn't bad. Quote
Turi Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I think I heard the guy wants to start in the NFL. I'm not sure many teams can guarantee anything more than to play and compete for the position. If that's the case he'll probably be competing with a rookie somewhere. If it's not and other teams want him in as a backup then he stays with the Bengals. Quote
TecmoFever Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 This was from NFL.com's Adam Schefter (http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/story/9152858)the Bengals do not control the rights to Kitna; he is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent -- unless Cincinnati now decides to slap its franchise tag on Kitna. The price tag would be high, somewhere around $6-6.5 million, but it would insure that Kitna returns to Cincinnati for a season in which it is questionable whether Palmer will be ready for training camp. Now that's what I want to do--waste 6.5 million on a backup. Granted, Jonny Boy had a GREAT 1st half and he's a great guy to have around the team, but $6.5 million? How difficult is it to get a job at NFL.com?I do have to question why we didn't try to run the ball a little more yesterday. Making your team one-dimensional with Jon Kitna at the helm is not a good idea. Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Kitna will return if for no other reason than to support Carson during his rehab. Remember, Kitna can be had by Christian Guilt! He considers Palmer one of his best friends in the world. Quote

I doubt Kitna expects a 5.5 million raise from limited snaps in '04 and '05, three years after his award winning 2003 season. Quote
walshfan Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 If Kitna wanted anymore than 3mil Id let him walk and go with either a free agent pickup or Krenzel until Palmer is back...I dont expect him to get allot of feelers to start elsewhere anyway so they might be able to get him for 2 or 2.5mil...... Quote
CBin2k7 Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I think it is in Kitna's best interest to return, because if he were to go to any other team he would be exposed. He knows this offense inside and out, it would be difficult for him to play in another offense, unless it is some sort of a West Coast offense. Kit and Brat have been together since like 1997 when they were in Seattle together. Quote

I agree with you - if he gets a "starter" job next year, it's with a team that's 1) bad, and 2) guaranteed to yank him about week 8, and who wants to leave a comfortable job where you're happy for that? Jet23 Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Had Jon played the 2nd half as well as he played the first, the interest level would have been very high. Unfortunately (for Jon), the focus will be on the flubs in the 2nd half. He needs to return for at least one more year, but I won't be surprised to see them burn an early 2nd day draft pick for a qb to stash on the practice squad. Don't underestimate his value in the locker room. Pay the man Katie! Quote
AMC Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 If Kitna and the team knew he would be starting at QB the first few games next year instead of Carson (heaven forbid) I think Jon would be fine....given the preparation, etc....I think his performances in 2005 were due to lack of prep and lack of game speed reps.... Quote
PhunkE1 Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I think Kitna's going to approach FA like this:He'll test the waters to see if he can get a starting job somewhere (If Brat does indeed get the head coaching job in NO I could see Kitna signing there to start a couple of years and mentor Vince Young (If they draft him obviously). If he can't find a good fit I think he'll return to the Bengals. His family loves the city of Cin, so I think he'd only leave for the perfact situation. Quote
