I don't think I've ever seen that.Allow me to help you in case you a ) have never played football, or b ) have never really watched football. There can and is a difference between "intent to injure" and "dirty". Dirty is grabbing the QB around the knee with all your force. You may not intend to injure, but you want him to really feel it. You know ... the Cowher way. You know, that Pittsburgh caveman stuff. Grunt. Grunt. Grunt. You know, make sure your guys jaw at the opponent continually. You know, give a couple extra jabs just to remind them who is the bully. The Burgh Way. The Cowher Way. Quote
HoosierCat Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Worst game I've ever watched as a Bengals' fan.Well, you haven't been a Bengals fan for very long then, eh?I'm disappointed as hell, too, but c'mon, get a grip.Worst Bengals game you ever watched? Guess you didn't watch that disaster in Atlanta back in '02? I know it was on national television and all but I can see how you missed it.Then there was just about any game coached by that fellow in your avatar. At least David Pollack didnt walk over and shove Marvin's hat down over his face. And let's not foget the debacle that was Bruce Coslet's last game.Hell, let's not forget the debacle that was last week.Bengals got shoved in the ultimate hole 2 plays into their first drive and were still ahead at the half. They got beat but they went down fighting, which is more than can be said of many other games in the last 15 years.Buck up. This was only round 1. Quote

Round 1. There are several to go, and I like the direction were going in. The Steelers best hope they somehow make this their year, because I do feel that this loss is our turning point, strangely enough. Quote
duus Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Direct quote from Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:"Of course, if Pittsburgh's defense can knock out Peyton Manning early the way it did Carson Palmer in Cincinnati today, who knows?"Say no more. Quote
schweinhart Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 From what I could tell the damage seemed to come from the timing of Kimo's basically dead weight hitting the side of Palmer's knee just at the split second when Palmer had completed transferring all of his weight and torque from throwing the 50 yard pass. His knee was at its weakest and most vulnerable right at that point and had no where or way to turn to absorb the hit. More freakish than flagrant IMO but still late and low and should've drew a flag. However, I'd be real surprised if it drew a fine. The hit he took from Seymour last year was a much harder one of the clean shot type, just not as bad as it turned out.Palmer isn't a scrambler obviously but he does throw with a lot of power and has to exert a lot of force when his weight transfers to his left knee on long throws. It sounds like he's got a long recovery ahead of him to get where he was before this. We'll all just have to wait and see how that works out, but I would expect him to fully recover based on how common it is now to come back from these injuries and the fact that he is a pocket passer. In the meantime, signing Kitna seemed like a high priority in the 1st half. But after the 2nd half, jeez. Quote

I didn't know the writers for the Post-Gazette played and/or coached on the Steelers. Still reaching. Quote
DREWNOX Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Well I had to jump on here earlier and talk some crap but that was just payback for the Bengals trolls that were all over the Steelers boards all last week.Anyway, the reports are that the tears were clean and they wont have to do any major reconstructive surgery. This means that it should heal well and have no career threatening implications so he should be good to go by training camp. I'm glad to hear that and hope he makes it back with no problems. I like the competion he brings to the division and hate to see any player go down like that. As for the cheap hit talk. I think that is ridiculous. You all saw the play and you guys know Kimo and know he is way to classy a player to do something like that. If it was Porter or Harrison, maybe I would think about it but not KVO. Quote
ShulaSteakhouse Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Yeah heard that and hope it's true, appears to be. He'll be able to throw in the off-season and if he can make it to camp, no real worries...just him staying healthy from now on, which seems to be becoming a concern. Quote
redsrule2500 Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 EDIT: Let me clarify...Do I believe it was intentional hit to the leg? YES.Do I believe he intentionally tried to injure Palmer? possible. Quote
CT Stiller Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 If I saw the guy, he would better of run the other wayI'm sure Kimo would be terrified by an overweight, drunk Bengals fan coming at him.Chris Mortenson just reported that it's a torn ACL/MCL but that the docs say the ACL tear was clean and he should definintely be back for training camp.Tom Jackson is criticizing the Steelers for being overly chippy early in the game.TJ: "Carson Palmer is Elway-like..."And I like both of those guys, but I was disappointed with Jackson's comments. There was some pushing and shoving by both teams throughout the game, that I agree with, but you'll always get that in Divisional and playoff games. I also have to believe that the stuff going on in the endzone with Housmanzadeh and Chris Hope was a direct result of the shoe shine incident. He was a target all day for the defense, and seemed to be the only one they really wanted at.This is football, being "chippy" is part of the game. Quote
Jonboat Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 After seeing it on replay he wasn't blocked into him & he didn't fall on him he did lunge @ him, it should've been flagged. Maybe the best way to describe it is an illegal hit. To say it was dirty/cheap you're assuming he was intentionally trying to put him out of the game, I think he was just trying to make a play. This is his second surgery on the same knee, while everyone says he should be ok, you have to be concerned on how much his knee can take. If he has another injury to the knee you'd have to think it would probably end his career which would set us back for who knows how long. Quote
Kazkal Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 when 290 pound men hit the back of your knee and collapse on it I'm sure it would snap too...it would be concern because it's same leg but it's not to me because its big ass men taking low shots they shoulden't be Quote
EyeoftheTiger Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 Carson will be back and the experience the Bengals gained this year will be useful in next years play off scenario.Thats what we can do. Quote
andybren Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I've watched the hit about ten times now, and here's what I think:1. Kimo was blocked downward, not backwards into Carson.2. Kimo didn't reach for Carson's "legs" (as a Steelers fan said here) but for one leg.3. The reach was a different motion from the blocking motion. 4. The reach and twist motion was intended to bring Carson down, not to injure him.5. Since the "reach and twist" was on Carson's "plant foot" and from the side, it would have been impossible to bring Carson down without injurying him. If the hit was earlier in Carson's throwing motion, his career would probably be in jeopardy.6. Kimo is a veteran. He should have known that moving towards a player at that level and at that angle was extremely dangerous. This was not a freak occurance.7. Kimo has said the right things to the press, but his behavior at PBS (as reported on this board) demonstrates that he is not willing to accept responsibility for his actions. Willie and Richie may like Kimo, but it seems he has played too long for that other team and no longer holds the same virtues as his former teammates. I'm curious to hear if Levi holds the same opinion as his line-mates. Quote
cincy9275 Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 what do we do just hope Carson can make it back in time. i think he may not had the intention to hurt Carson . but he did it was a cheap shot there is no excuses for what he done. intent is not the issue the issue is he could have avoided the hit but he did not he lunged at Palmer after the ball was gone . it was a late hit there should have been a penalty and hopefully a fine because he deserves it . after waiting 15 years for this and to have this happen in this game just make me sick.what a piece of crap Quote
ddubia Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I'm just not willing to give up on a team I've been supporting for 23 years because of one injury.Life sucks. Get used to it.Long, long time Browns fan here.Just wanted to stop by and pay my respects to Carson Palmer.Good luck to him. Although I wanted you guys to lose, I sure didn't want anything like that to happen. I wanted a good game and a bad whoppin'. I hope he beats the odds and returns in record time.I heard on Mike & Mike in the Morning, (ESPN Radio), that a complete tear, which is what I understand this is, heals faster than a partial tear. I know nothing about the medical side of it but that's what they said.Von Oelhoffen's hit was not intentional in my opinion. I watched the replay a zillion times. He was blocked into Palmer. When you are blocked like that you dive toward the quarteback to make a play. That's what you do. I would see it as a cheap shot if he came in unblocked and went low, but that's not the case. You only have so much control over your movements while falling down. Von Oelhoffen was sick over it. You could see it in his body language after he realized Palmer was hurt. Only over-reaction and self-pity would drive one to hate on him for that. I myself feel awful for Palmer. He deserved to play in that game. He earned it. I don't really feel bad for you fans, because as a Browns fan I have been though enough heart aches and near misses that I totally lost any apathy for other fans who go through troubling times. I understand what you're going through and I know it'll get better. Been there. Still there. The rest of the team stepped-up and played pretty damn tough in spite of such bad news, but without Palmer you just weren't going to score enough points. Hang in. Palmer will be back and take off where he left off. Dude's game is in his arm, not his legs.I hate your team and by association I hate your bandwagon fans. You long-time fans who aren't bandwagon, like yourself, know what to do. Support your team. They need it more than ever right now.I'm out. Quote
oldschooler Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 My girlfriend is a casual football fan.And she was like "WTF is that guy doing ?""That was dirty as hell !"Then when it was over she said ..."Well they shouldthank whoever took Carson Palmer out."Oh, then I'm convinced it was a dirty hit if your girlfriend says so.Guys, it was NOT a dirty hit, you can see it in the replay. Kimo was blocked down, his head was down, he grabbed at his legs to go for the sack and even tried to keep him upright after he got knocked into him. The guy who blocked him into him, Steinbach I think, even said it was not blatant.Hey moron why didn`t you quote me fully ?I was saying from a casual fan`s point of view.Th`ts what my girlfriend said. And then "I" said I`m not sure if it was dirty or not.But it SHOULD have drawn a flag.Palmer injury worse than feared Online exclusive: Late-breaking newsBy Mark CurnutteEnquirer staff writer Carson Palmer suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and torn medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his left knee injury Sunday in the playoff loss to the Steelers and faces several months of rehabilitation.A source close to the situation confirmed the dual injuries early this morning and described Palmer's mood as "bummed."Palmer and his representatives and family, as well as the Bengals medical staff, were going to discuss his situation this morning. The ACL is the more serious of the two injuries. It is the ligament that provides stability in keeping the lower leg from coming forward. The MCL helps to keep the middle part of the knee in place. The goal is to have Palmer healthy in time for the start of the 2006 training camp in late July, the Bengals announced at the start of the second half of what would be a 31-17 loss to Pittsburgh.Palmer was hit low by Steelers defensive end Kim von Oelhoffen after throwing a pass that would be a 66-yard completion to wide receiver Chris Henry. Steelers players say von Oelhoffen was blocked into Palmer.Palmer went in for an MRI and his return initially was listed as questionable.Palmer injured the same knee in Game 13 of the 2004 season and missed the last three games. He suffered an MCL strain at New England.Henry later injured his right knee and was knocked out of the game.Jon Kitna replaced Palmer and completed 6 of 7 passes for 54 yards on his first two possessions.Kitna was 14-for-20 passing in the first half for 109 yards and one touchdown, a seven-yard strike to T.J. Houshmandzadeh in the second quarter.http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/art...0361/1066/rss07 Quote
