walzav29
I think the Bengals could benefit from the lack of pressure that the Colts, Broncos, and Steelers face. They have made the playoffs so much, but haven't won anything major. That seems like alot of pressure. I know that the Steeler fans call for Cowher's head, because of no Super Bowl. I know that Shanahan hears about it for not winning a playoff game without Elway, and I know that people wonder about Manning in big games as well as Dungy's playoff coaching skills. It seems the Bengals could benefit from an everything to gain, nothing to lose approach. I haven't heard to many analysts look at it this way. Just a thought. NJ29
IMO, No Pressure = Lack of Urgency.
AMC
Interesting view. Once into the playoffs anything could happen. It will be interesting to see how a "first timer" team handles the pressure. It is a different pressure than other teams as you noted. We'll see how Marvin has them prepared. I think they will come out loose at home and really fly around the ball.
The_Next_Big_Thing
In the age of parity and free agency, a "first timer" team like the Bengals has as much chance of going all the way as an experienced franchise like the Patriots or a favorite like the Colts. The fact that we shouldn't win it is why we have a chance.Besides, my $100 bet from preseason is worth a LOT if we win it somehow! So that is a misnomer...

So that is a misnomer...The reason some of the media (not all) think we have no playoff experience and NEED playoff experience before we should expect anything is because in the days before free agency and true parity in the league, you built your teams and kept your experienced players, and teams kept on winning over and over again. New England is the only team CLOSE to a dynasty, but frankly It's nothing like the days of old.

So that is a misnomer...If it were neutral site, I'd agree we have a good shot, parity helps and all. That's why it sucks we lost out on the bye - the odds on reaching the SB for teams with byes very high. The Bengals helped Denver a helluvalot. That whole "know how to win crap" from the media is a bunch of sh*t, though, I agree with you. Whur CHad At?
In the playoffs everyone has the same record, so everyone has the same chance.
jjakq27
Hopefully that point of view will work for the Bengals. The heat is probably on for the three above mentioned teams. If they play like they have nothing to lose then they can win ('04 Denver, '03 Chiefs game).. If they play scared then they are done.I think the key regardless of who they play, is what happens early. If they can score first or don't go 3 and out on the first series that will take the pressure off of them. I think they have proven that they can play with anyone (Indy, 2nd Steelers game). If they struggle with field position issues or drops or penalties then we know what may happen (Jags, 1st Steelers game).

I probly wouldnt even watch the super bowl if the pats were in it again.
