Grizz08 Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 who do you guys predict the bengals will take in the first round of the nfl draft??? Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 Too early to think about the draft. Right now we should be focusing on the Lions in Week 15.Besides the Bengals will pick 32nd, so it will be hard to figure out who they will take, pref. a Safety or DT. Quote
TJJackson Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 In order of preference, as things now stand:1) run stopping DT2) S who can play both free and strong3) TE who excels equally at blocking and receiving4) pass rushing DE - need better production at these spots5) cornerback - Tory james will b in his 1th year next year6) Left Tackle. Levi's contract expires after 2006, and it'd be best to prepare for the possibility of his departure. Quote
AGrizzlyBaer Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 the needs go as follow, Saftey, DT, TE for everydown, a guard, and then maybe pass rush specialist and of course qb ... only kidding Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 Naw, we need a wide receiver, a running back, and a QB!In all honesty, it depends on the combine and interviews. We may be left shaking our heads for the 3rd year in a row going WHAT?!?! They picked WHO?!??! For WHAT POSITIONS?!??! BUT BUT BUT.... only to find out Marvin, Mike, Duke, Bill, Earl and John know what they are doing and put some great drafts together. Quote
Stripes Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 With the 32nd pick of the 2006 NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select Rodrique Wright, defensive tackle, University of Texas. Quote
AMC Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 Hard to say "best player available". At what point do you draft for need on a talented team?Jesse Mahelona from Tennessee, if available would be nice. Quote
ratmandu Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 They also need a kickoff specialist (draft or free agent) who can consistantly kick it down to the goal line or into the end zone. This in no way effects Shane Grahmn as the place kicker as he is the man but I think they really do need to look at this option in spite of losing an active roster spot. This would give the defense anywhere between 15 to 20 yards more to work with on every defensive series !This is a dire need as they can't keep getting kickoffs that are fielded between the 15 and the 20 yard lines. This is constantly setting the defense up by consistantly giving the opposing team a short field @ ~ the 35 to 40 yard line.My opinion is that this option alone could reduce opponent touchdowns by ~20 to 25% and field goals by ~10 to 15%.This option along with a run stuffing defensive tackle,an aggresive, pass rushing end and a strong, hard hitting, cover safty could immediately turn this into one of the elite defenses in the NFL. Whur CHad At? Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 i think we should draft a punter with the first pick. Lets make NFL history Quote

Yea, it probably would reduce touchdowns by some percentage like that, but it just sucks you have to waste a precious roster spot on another placekicker... Quote

A kickoff specialist is not going to happen. Marvin and Simmons have said that before. That active player is way too valuable to have it tied up with someone who might get on the field 5 times on a good day. Quote
KRUNKJUICE Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 Why don't we trade Jon Kitna, Kelly Washington , and maybe a 3rd round draft pick for John Abraham from the Jets? He wants out, we could use that kind of pass rusher. Works for us and the Jets. What do you guys think? Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 Its a good idea but...Abraham will cost a lot of money...and the Bengals won't want anything to do with it because they have nothing to do with big name, high priced players. We tend to favor old washed up guys in FA.I like that plan though and would do it in a heartbeat. Quote

That's just as likely as Kitna and a draft pick for Abraham yet alone adding in Kelly Washington, who if memory serves won't be ours to trade by the time we could trade him. Quote
alleycat Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 Kickoff specialist, no. But there are some punters out there who would qualify. Remember Lee Johnson with Breech? IMO our punter blows this year and it'd be great if we could kill two birds... Quote
derekshank Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 Hard to say "best player available". At what point do you draft for need on a talented team?Jesse Mahelona from Tennessee, if available would be nice.AMC's right. If we get to the AFC championship game... and even if we don't Wright will likely be gone. Mahelona is a stud... gets a great pass rush (something we lack right now from any DT) and is continually tackling RB's in the backfield. I'll be pretty pumped to get him... because based on our needs, after Ngata is gone... he's my first choice. Quote
Jet23 Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 i think we should draft a punter with the first pick. Lets make NFL historyI think Ray Guy was a first rounder for the Raiders in the early 70's. I would burn a 4th + rounder for a punter that can kickoff. Quote
walshfan Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 the order of NEED is safety.. we're running on fumes aside from Williams..DT.... big ole slobberknocker that consumes blocks or a penetrator either one will do....CB or TE... both need to have futures ready.. Quote
ratmandu Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 they really do need to look at this option in spite of losing an active roster spot.I did not phrase this right as I meant to and should have put in the word "maybe" losing an active roster spot. Kickoff specialist, no. But there are some punters out there who would qualify. Remember Lee Johnson with Breech? IMO our punter blows this year and it'd be great if we could kill two birds...A kickoff specialist could be anybody from a punter to an offensive or defensive tackle...etc.I don't care who.The point is the Bengals are giving up way to many points per game because of poor field position due to short kickoffs, and if you can add any one player to your roster that can save you anywhere from 3 to 7 points or more per game then you find room for him somehow, somewhere, someway. And,the Lee Johnson/Jim Breech scenario is exactly what I was thinking about and was what I was referring to in my analogy. Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 You guys make it sound like we are being killed by really short kicks with really big returns. That isn't the case. Our kickoffs are at worst 5 to 6 yards shorter than others in gross, and about the same when you consider that we have been covering the kicks well all season. Quote
BlainThePain Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 I'm hoping for Michael Huff or Vernon Davis. Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 I agree with Haironfire here. Darnell Bing is a stud Quote
kingwilly Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 I second the Vernon Davis vote, if he comes out (he should). he would be there late in the first. DE Mario Williams from NC State also has game, could be there late in the second, also a junior I think.S position is tricky,. The draft may not be the best ooption there. Maybe one late but our D line needs attention. A good FA S may work. Archuleta is FA this year... Quote
