kingwilly
PFW has interesting insight to our Safety situation. If Ratliff can get some time at SS and we can bring in Bauman or Body on nickel-zone packages, I think we can eliminate the potential for big plays. Ratliff is a very good tackler, BTW. Bauman is a tough guy and we all know body is a fast mofo.http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/The+W...m?mode=afcnorth
jditty47
i would LOVE if ratliff played some safety this year. ohalete can sit the bench for all i care...and no his pick last week hasnt changed my mind about him.
Stripes
I wouldn't object to this if it does happen, and I wouldn't be surprised. If I remember correctly, he did play some safety in his rookie year.
The Big Orange
2 things...he's not a safety and he's not strong...besides that I think he'll do great...right now i can just envinsion him as a hood ornament on the Bus
bengalindian
If anything, Kiewan would play Free Safety, but I think he's not even suited for that. I don't see it happening. I think Marvin's going to brave it out with Ohalete and KK, and then make changes in the offseason.
jditty47
kk could play strong and ratliff free. ohalete is as weak as ratliff is at safety...so there wouldnt be much of a difference. safety is the reason our run D is so poor i believe. no reason to give a run up of more than 10 yards at any point in a game, and if it does happen, its 99% the safeties fault. bengalboomer7
How many times did we see KK get drug by Jamal anyway. I'd rather have ratliff back there. Plus, I've seen this guy make more hits than Ole' Te and KK
derekshank
Here's why it wouldn't be a bad idea to put Ratliff at FS:KK wasn't bad at SS before Madieu got hurt... at least not so bad that he was a liability.Madieu's greatest strength at FS is he can cover the TE like a CB... and we ended up covering D. Clark with Ratliff in the nickel by the end of the Indy game anyway (in which case we got devoued by E. James). If Ratliff could cover Clark from the FS position, it would be much less of a problem. Also, we need not be concerned with having a poor CB in there in nickle packages... because not only do we have other good CB's... but Ohalete could be fresh legs at SS and Ratliff could play nickle CB. Reasons why it would be a bad idea:I don't know many 185 lb safeties... no matter how good a tackler he is... he could end up being a liability (especially toward the end of a game). My personal opinion... I'd like to see him in there... just to see how it works... but it's probably a bit late in the season to go experimenting... especially in a game we need to win this much. Maybe we could put him in there strictly on passing downs, so that Ohalete's lack coverage skills aren't as much a liability... but I wouldn't expect to see any of this happen. He's a great CB... probably our 2nd starter next year. I don't know that Lewis thinks our SS situation is so desperate that we need to do something this drastic. dcbengal1
BTW, if we make the playoffs, any chance Madi can come back in time?
Spain
Yeah can we get Williams back this year?
The_Next_Big_Thing
Yeah can we get Williams back this year? No. He was put on IR, which means he is done.
derekshank
I wonder what this guy's source is? A source close to the Bengals might just be someone who lives near the stadium.

If your safety is making all the tackles on Rb's, it means your LB's suck if you ask me.
Jet23
We may see a new wrinkle in an attempt to stuff the run. Possibly a 4-4 (extra linebacker).Call it rust, but Big Ben did not move around that well Monday. I hope they are able to put some heat on him. kingwilly
His ankle is bad, too. Ben will be a sitting duck. Last I checked it is duck season...
Kirkendall
I wonder what this guy's source is? A source close to the Bengals might just be someone who lives near the stadium.Usually a "source close" to the situation is translation for "made up in mind".... If it does't come from Hobs, Monotone-Mark, Chickster, or Goooooooooohen, then it's either probably true... Hey, I love the Bengals... does that make me close to the team? Well, I'm saying this now! Bryan Robinson will return punts within the next 2 weeks.
pedroza29
I hope to God that we get Ohalte out of the lineup ASAP! The dude is always out of position, and when he is in position, he can't make a play. I know that switching positions may not be as easy as we make it sound, but PLEASE Ratliff if you read this, get out there and play safety! I have no problem with KK. I think that he has stepped up his play in the second half of the season. It is Ohalte that makes me and the rest of my family cringe. At least if we get Ratliff back there, he will have confidence, maybe Ohalte doesn't have any confidence and thats why he sucks. Ratliff is an athlete that needs to be on the field more anyways, so I say that this is a great idea.
Spain
Marvin always said he is going to play the best 11. If we do this we need to do it this week. Ratlif can cover the TE end at least. the real ? is. Is this some new package on third down and leave Ohalte in on running downs. Why not.Especialy if your going to play 8 in the box. He wouldnt be so exposed to the run. Last time I checked Ratlif would lay a lickin on you anyway. Dont let his size fool you, he is a playa. Get him on the field. GROIIIDayton
On passing downs at least Ratliff needs to be playing FS with KK going to SS. Ratliff is a good tacklerand gets to the ball while also playing the ball well in the air. Why dodn't they see this?

GROIIIDayton
a passing down isn't always three wide out sets. Plus I saw some third downs that Greg Brooks was out there in the nickle package.
Stripes
I'd rather keep Ratliff playing where he has been the most effective, in the nickle. Ohalete is certainly struggling a lot, but I think we'll just have to ride him through the rest of the season. Can't wait for Madieu to crunch some bones next year!
