HoosierCat Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 Just an observation:Whatever else is on the line against the Steelers -- and just about everything, IMHO, is -- the Balti win has added one more tweak to the game:Win number nine. A number the Bengals have not seen in the win column since 1991. A number they had two chances to get for their coach Marvin Lewis two years ago...but failed.So...not only may the division...if not the playoffs...be on the line next Sunday...but also a chance at team redemption. A chance to make Pitt-area native Marvin Lewis the first Bengals coach with a winning record in 15 years in Pitt...Soo...do you think the striped ones will be fired up...or what? Quote
jbengals1 Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 HELL YEA they will be fired up JC, "this ones for marvin" Quote
AMC Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 They were fired up for the game against PITT in CIN and got spanked. (Cold shiver). So there needs to be some 'fired up' with a side of 'not extending yourself' too much...I think they learned alot from that first PITT game. It showed against INDY.I think the Bengals come out firing and the Steelers will play catch-up.... Quote
Columbusbengal Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 Soo...do you think the striped ones will be fired up...or what? Believe it or not, I think the problem is more likely to be that they will be TOO "fired up." You cannot let adrenaline overcome the cerebral concentration that is also needed in football. I think this has been part of the problem in the Bengals "other" big games this year and contributed to their failing to get the early points they needed. Quote
walzav29 Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 There are only 2 BIG games left. If they win Sunday, that will take away from the importance of the Chiefs game. I'm not saying they can't win, but until I see them win a big game I will not be confident. The Bengals will have to start winning these big games eventually. Hopefully it will be Sunday. Quote

Every game left is important. If we don't win out, even if we beat the Steelers, they can potentially take the division crown. Every game from here on out can be won, and should be won. Quote

Believe it or not, I think the problem is more likely to be that they will be TOO "fired up." There is that. It's one of those games where you start thinking about whether it wouldn't be better to lose the opening coin toss...or if you win, choose defense.I think...or at least hope...that the inevitable excitement around the game will be channeled into determination, not nerves. And I think it might just be "what they could give to their coach with a win" that will make the difference this week. We shall see. Quote
Columbusbengal Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 There is that. It's one of those games where you start thinking about whether it wouldn't be better to lose the opening coin toss...or if you win, choose defense.Actually, Bo Schembechler got the NCAA to change its rule to allow the coin toss winner to choose to defer their choice to the second half precisely because the Ohio State v. Michigan game got both teams so hyped that the team on defense always stopped the other team on the opening drive (or even caused a turnover). I have wondered when the NFL would change to this rule, also. Quote
skyline Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 I think the biggest key to this game will be getting off to a fast start. In all 3 of our losses, we've had a lot of plays go against us in the beginning (some our fault, others not). We usually manage to claw our way back into games, but it'd be nice to have the Steelers do the clawing this time around.I really believe that if Chad's TD had stood in the last game against the Steelers, that we would have won that game... walzav29 Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 Speaking of Chad's TD (I think that would have changed the outcome also) Did you see that Shockey BS yesterday? They said that was inconclusive. Chad's was the same. Quote
Stripes Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 Ensure our first winning record since 1990, ensure a division championship, and possibly a first round bye, all at once? I like it. I liked it before week 7 too. Let's turn the AFC North tide for good. Quote

Don't forget that in addition to the above considerations the Bengals will be playing for the right to emotionally teabag the Steelers. It's payback time. Quote

BengalNation1281 Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 I hope Eli cried himself to sleep. Quote
bengalindian Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 I know Carson has been this way all year, and people have mentioned it non-stop, but yesterday's game was the first time I've noticed how nonchalant and poised Carson is. After every touchdown, he just throws his hands in the air and walks off the field. It's business, and he's the perfect compliment to Chad. As long as they all stay focused on the task at hand and don't get too involved in showing off, I think they can win the game. Which is what I hope to see them do. In the other thread, we were discussing Chad's TD dance, and if he does just hand the ball off to the ref, that would be awesome. Quote
