I've done my share of hooking up wired and wireless networks, as well as most types of internet connections, but over Thanksgiving I went to some relatives house, and while I was there, they asked if I could assist them in hooking up their new computer and ADSL modem, an "Actiontec" job. I though sure. How tough can it be?

Well what a f**king misnomer that name is! The only "action" that thing induces is the circles you run trying to get it to do anything more than ping the ISP, which was "Qwest!" After loading the drivers from the CD it came with, as well as the full two hours spent on the cell phone (can't use the regular line because the dumbasses forgot to send enough freakin' phoneline "filters" because the satallite TV receiver used the only one!) we finally got it to work.

If that was what you could call it. I call it marginally better than dial up. For $30 a month, which is what I pay using a far simpler to install cable modem and ethernet card, it can't hold a candle to my cable modems raw speed. And this is on a computer with only half the processing power to boot! I absolutely couldn't believe that what I was seeing was the most it was capable of performing at, so I again called their tech support, who after doing diagnostics on their end said "Yep! You are now connected with settings at optimum levels." I replied "That's it?" They answered "Yes, but for another $25 they'd upgrade the connection to the next highest level."

So now I'm wondering what's the next level up from "Lame?" <_<

I am running through Bellsouth High Speed DSL. I pay 45/month for 500mbs, which isn't that bad, considering what Adelphia charges around this place for Cable.

The only drawback is I can't torrent worth a sh*t. I can never figure out how to arrange my ports correctly, and even if I luckily do, I can't upload much over 15kb/s. Bt oh well, the pron downloads fast enough!!
