Ohalete must go

I don't care if he played for Marvin in Washington, I don't care whether or not he made the team in Arizona...Ohalete just can't get the job done. The bye week was a perfect time to bring somebody else in, and Marvin blew it.

How many more times are we going to see Ohalete give up big plays before somebody gets the message? And as we progress through the second half of the season (and possibly the post-season), won't these big plays become even more devastating?

I miss Madieu.

I'm actually pi$$ed with Ohalete for the 2 big penalties -- the offside on the first drive on 3rd down and the special teams foul.

Obviously there is no substitute for Madieu -- clearly Ohalete's hips are stiff in coverage, his reaction time lacks, and he misses some tackles he should make.

But in no way shape or form is Ohalete mostly responsible for the Bengals giving up the boat load of points today. It was truly a team stink on defense today and the biggest mismatch of the game was Tory James vs. Reggie Wayne and it showed.

Because there are about 5 other strong safety candidates out there who are better than Salley?

By the way, you're right, starters on playoff teams need to be able to tackle better. Fourth stringers forced into a starting role when you lose BOTH your starting safeties can be cut some slack. Be glad we have a body out there at all.

Yup. Wayne was open all day. I watched him just shoot past James multiple time and James did not have the speed to recover. When we play them again we need Keiwan to be ready...

I dont even know where to begin about the play of Ohalete..

He can put his shoulder in there on a tackle but he doesnt wrap up in the open field.. He's slow and looks lost in pass coverage..

Heath Miller and Todd Heap will run to his zone just so he has to cover them!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope he's replaced by Anyone next week.

Our hand was forced with the Madieu injury....O-ha-letdown was the best available at the time...he had a bad game but I would rather have him back there than Herana-Jones or Myles against the AFC North TEs...what can you do, the point is moot....

I think Bauman is the one who needs to be ready, but I doubt he or Keiwan would get the call ahead of James at CB. Keiwan is slower than James. He got used by Stokely once and Dallas Clark more than once in the slot.

The better course to tack if the Bengals play the Colts again and decide to roll the dice with Ohalete would be to keep K2 back instead when the D lines up with a single-safety. When they give up the cover 2 shell to stop the run, they have to prioritize speed at FS because the coverage requires half the field in either direction. Clearly, K2 is the faster of the 2.

There's no doubt that Ohalete ain't what they ultimately want in an interchangeable safety -- who also has excellent man cover skills like Madieu and can play CB in the slot or outside. But Ohalete's much better than either Kim Herring or Anthony Mitchell.

Using Keiwan at FS in games where the opposing offense is based with 3 receivers and a single-back makes the most sense, and if Bauman had not somehow got injured during the walk through on Saturday, I think we would've seen less Ohalete and more Keiwan at FS and Bauman in the slot.

But blaming Ohalete for the failures in coverage by James and Keiwan is flat out wrong. He deserves his blame for 2 stupid penalties and a bad decision to try to strip the ball instead of tackling Clark when Clark caught the pass down the seam between him and Thurman. He got juked badly when Wayne cut back inside on the long TD but when your CB is giving up 10 yds behind like James did when he bit on the pump fake, that's the real damage.

have to agree, ohalete was embarassing. how he isn't capable of tackling harrison or any of the other wideouts, i don't know. kk may not be the best player on the squad but at least he puts his whole body into the tackle rather than just dangling am arm out!!

williams is missed big time, but there must be another option
